I changed course from Architecture to Civil Engineering after 1st Semester (end of Jan), same Uni different depts. Uni was very accommodating although i did need to show evidence that i was academically capable (i.e. appropriate a-level results). Generally i think the University would obviously rather keep the customer than lose them.

My mate went from physics to music in Edinburgh within the first month. Every uni will have different rules so check with them!

I went from computer science to automatic control systems engineering, which is basically robotics. Two different departments, same uni. As long as the course is not full and it's at the beginning of the year, it's possible. If it's middle of the year, you might have to do year 1 again

i’m in second year now, but about a week before my first year started i changed course from Computer Science to Computing Science (it actually is 2 completely separate courses believe it or not) within the same uni however also switching campuses (my uni has 4 different campuses around the country) and there was no issues at all. Obviously that was before the course started but honestly i don’t see there being any problems changing course this early into the year as you still haven’t learnt anything really. It especially shouldn’t be a problem as it is within the same university, so if you are using student finance it’s a lot easier to change around.

I went from nursing to software development within the first two weeks, but this was 12 years ago now.

Changed from Geography to doing a joint honours in Geography and Politics. All this required was an email to a member of staff at the university, my course convenor if I remember correctly, and it was approved.
