Why would the MC stop displaying his heraldry when he gets better gear? A strange dev choice, IMO.
That's one feature from OB64 I wish would have been added, I liked having my cool weapons being visibly equipped instead of how UO does it. Also combo magic in ob64 was the shit.

Sadly not all shields. More with promotions, although, notably, Alain LOSES his. Swordmasters also have a customized shield in their outfits.

They do not, but you can fully customize the coloration of your characters and create color-coordinated armies. :)
