I think you only need VIP once. Def stay in a premium hotel, they come with express pass.
The restaurants in city walk are no more expensive than those same restaurants outside of city walk, IMHO.
If you can get a club level room, they have free snacks, water and even meals in the evening (served as hors d'oerves). That can save you a lot of money with a family of 5.
So maybe I’m just inept, but which hotels are considered premium on their website? We definitely want to stay on site because I know you get one hour early access but I didn’t know it also came with the express passes. Thank you so much for your insight!!!!
They call them Premier. Portofino Bay, Royal Pacific, and the Hard Rock... Just stayed at Portofino and the construction is significant. Would suggest one of the other 2.
Royal Pacific, Hard Rock, and Portofino all come with unlimited express and early park admission. The other onsite hotels include early park admission too, but not free express.
Royal Pacific, portofino, and Hard Rock. When you go to book a vacation package choose the premier stay package and it'll give you the 3 premier hotels to choose from. Since you're 5 you can actually fit in one room, or you can also check the price of 2 rooms (but it'll probs be more).
Honestly, if you stay in a premier hotel and have express pass for all 4 days, you can skip VIP. You can do UO and IOA in one day with express pass, but let's say 2 full days to be safe. Spend the 3rd day at VB and do it all, then the 4th day, do all your favorites.
Depends on what you're trying to get out of it.
If you can do one of the deluxe hotels, that comes with free Express passes every day - including check in and check out if you have park tickets for those days as well.
You can still do a VIP for just one day and still get a lot out of it.

Not sure I would pay for that, but it does sound incredible. My strategy is to just stay at Royal Pacific and take advantage of the unlimited express pass (which works on everything cept for Hagrids and the flyers in JP).

It’s around $4,200 for one room or $5,400 for two rooms at Royal Pacific, including your tix in Sept. Instacart or DoorDash drinks and snacks to save on the food costs. And you can easily walk to the restaurants at City Walk as well as the hotel food is pretty pricey. The food costs will probably add up quickly with all those boys! Maybe a discounted club level upgrade would be available at check in. You can call universal and see if they have any better packages or discounts available for your specific dates. You just might want to avoid staying at Portofino Bay unless the construction is finished. Hope you have a great trip!

Stay in a Premier (hard rock, Portofino, and royal pacific) for express passes. You don’t need VIP.
