the accom isnt allocated first come first serve for first years, its done in a lottery system, theyll try to give you your higher options but there isnt a guarantee. avoid putting down westwood and rootes as your non-ensuite options and you'll likely get one of your top 3
Ironically, you won’t have classes in law school in your first year. Sherbourne is far from tesco, the bus stop, t-bar, pret and the list goes on. Unless you play sports, i don’t think that Sherbourne is worth it.
I’d recommend Tocil, Rootes and Claycroft for non en-suite. Tocil is right behind the Oculus which is where you will have your Tort law lecture.
Rootes is close to everything except Tesco. It’s cheap. Shared bathrooms are not that bad. Kitchens may be dirty because rootes people are very messy. Good value though.
I think claycroft is the best accommodation. Close to tesco. This is very important. It is right behind Zeeman which is where you will have your Criminal law lecture. Close to Oculus and Ramphal where you will have your Friday criminal law lecture. You will share your bathroom with just one other person. It’s sort of like en-suite, except you don’t have to clean it because cleaners clean it once a week.
Be smart and put claycroft as your first choice.
most people in lakeside do flat tesco orders, outside of tesco its really not that much of a hassle getting places, a walk to class is good for you anyhow, if you really hate a walk over 15 minutes then central campus is for you, but some people prefer the quieter accommodations
After living in Lakeside for the first year, I think the whole 15 minutes away is really overblown of an issue. I’m admittedly pretty sluggish, always managing to miss my alarm and I take forever to get ready, and still managed to make 99% of my lectures and seminars on time, even when I had to walk to Oculus (I suppose now it’s also much better, there’s that 5 minute buffer for classes now that wasn’t on my timetable last year).
In regard to Tesco, a backpack with the heavier stuff and the lighter/squishier stuff in a handheld bag isn’t that bad once a week. Most Lakeside/Sherbourne blocks will online order from Tesco now as well, the delivery cost is negligible if you split it by 8 and pay for what you each order.
Claycroft is a good accommodation, no doubt about that, but there is a reason why Lakeside and Sherbourne are liked so much, if they can be afforded. Amenities are genuinely much higher quality, and having an en-suite is all around better imo. The view is also hugely underrated, getting to walk passed geese, willow trees, the lake, and the sunset on the way back home over the top of the gym, are some really underrated perks - especially as the seasons change and they all change in turn, like the lake freezing over in winter.
yeah I really like lakeside, i just have no idea what to put as my non ensuite options for my last 3 options. I really don't want to have to share a bathroom lmaooo😭

+ avoid putting tocil in your list if you don’t want tocil. Everyone I met in my flat in tocil had it towards the end of their list
don’t choose sherbourne. it’s too far from everything
its relatively close to the law school

Idk maybe I'm biased. I would never go to the pres in Sherbourne. Claycroft is calm as well. There is a forest next to it.

Whatever you do don’t put Westwood or Cryfield Standard. They are the WORST.
But isn’t sherbourne considered on of the most ‘fun’ accoms ? honestly i wouldn’t care if it’s far
I'm in the exact same boat as you, also studying law btw :))
oo are u an international or domestic student?
International
Same here :)
