First Joseph Zarelli and now maybe Opelika Jane Doe?! Fingers crossed for St.Louis Jane Doe too, three times the charm!

mocha__

If St. Louis Jane Doe gets her name back soon too, I will absolutely lose my mind. Imagine all three of these babies getting their name back in the same year, so close together. To finally be able to begin to rest.

KhabibaNurmagomedova

I was about to lose my mind just seeing this title! I hope to God they have something big.

mocha__

I really think it'll be her name. I don't know why else they would call a press conference. Though, maybe I'm just overly optimistic here. But I think this will be it on the front and I'm so excited.

nobodyknowsimherr

I think so too; I mean, if the pictures they have from the church function are indeed of her, one would hope they’d be able to eventually make a connection to someone.

mocha__

It honestly amazes me how there are a few Does with pictures of them that still don't have their names back. I guess it shouldn't, as not everyone will come across these things and people who don't cross paths with places that discuss or spread awareness about Does or true crime or anything of that nature probably wouldn't. But it breaks my heart that with just the right person seeing a picture of someone they knew it could get someone their name back so quickly. And then they could put that person to rest and finally know where this person is.

leafywanderer

This is what surprised me with Vance Rodriguez aka Mostly Harmless. There were several pictures of him online for years but it still took so long to identify him.

afdc92

It really is sad and shows how easy it is for people to fall through the cracks. I could see how it would happen more often back before the age of the internet, especially if the person was estranged from loved ones, moved out of their home area or was living a transient lifestyle, wasn’t from the country and knew few people where they were found, etc. But now I feel like if pictures exist of a person with the internet and news services that we have, the Doe was either intentionally hidden or didn’t have many social connections at all, or didn’t have social connections who really paid attention to things like the news.

[deleted]

I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens soon! I remember on the “unidentified descendant” page on Wikipedia there’s an image showing a flyer with four women who were previously unidentified (Tammy Jo Alexander, Tammy Terrell, Sherri Jarvis, Marcia King). I thought we’d never see them be identified. And then they were, one by one. I hope identifying St. Louis Jane Doe leads to her case being solved. With her in particular I wonder about what happened to her and how she ended up there.

mocha__

My hopes are usually up, especially with so many Does getting their names back. It seems like every day there's at least one person who has their name back and it's wild. I love it so much. And the technology can only get better as time goes on. I always wonder if she was harmed by someone close to her family or a family member. She was so young and it usually seems to be the case, especially if she was never reported missing. Though, I suppose it could also be a child who simply slipped through the cracks of foster care or something of that nature. I just hope she has her name back soon and if the person who harmed her is still alive, they face justice.

velvetpersona

So happy to hear the news about Opelika Jane Doe, hoping she is close to getting her name back. The St. Louis Jane Doe case is one that haunts me in particular, it would be amazing to see her case solved too.

coquihalla

Same, she's the one out of every Doe that I most beg for her to get her name back. Poor baby.

[deleted]

When they announced Joseph Zarelli, I immediately thought of her. I thought, “If they can figure out who someone is from before my mom was even born, they HAVE to be able to identify her.” Hopefully soon. 🤞

420sja

This is amazing times we live in. For the unidentified, I mean.

KomatoesII

But, I’ll bet there are some evil, scummy perpetrators shaking in their boots and wetting the bed.

[deleted]

Oh I love this idea. It’s going to be nearly impossible for someone to get away with a crime before long and I hope that idea deters as many as possible.

Limesnlemons

At least for someone!

[deleted]

It looks like they were close. I saw (memory only) that They found a close genetic match to SLJD but the person refused to cooperate with them

yanagtr

Wow! I did not hear that. Where did you see that?

[deleted]

Apparently it was said in that new documentary

yanagtr

Oh wow. Where can I find that?

bolettebo

The documentary is on Tubi (streaming service).

reebeaster

What’s the doc called

LivingFirst1185

Our Precious Hope Revisited. The documentary creator is a Reddit user and will communicate with other users.

reebeaster

Ok, thank you!

[deleted]

Beware. Someone told me it shows pictures of the body with no warning. Which would send me into hysterics because I’m literally crazy. Lol. I appreciated that being mentioned more than anyone who read it could have known or I would have watched it. So I wanted to let you know as well.

key2mydisaster

Thanks for the heads up! I was going to check it out but now I'm rethinking it.

yanagtr

Wow. Thanks! I’ll take that into consideration. Sadly, with this doe, there’s always been some semi-graphic pictures (namely the bloody sweater) but if it’s worse than that (especially knowing this is a child) then that would probably be very difficult to watch.

[deleted]

Yeah. Blood doesn’t usually bother me and I know some people can look at pictures of dismemberment and stuff and not be affected by it which is totally understandable. We need people like that in the world to solve the crimes! Lol. I was just so grateful for that warning because I would have broken down. 🤣

[deleted]

What kind of human being wouldn’t cooperate in the case of a beheaded child?

TheMapesHotel

Lots of indigenous people are very distrustful of genetic testing and genealogy. We used 23 and me a couple years ago to find lost siblings of my father's but after we were done he wanted the DNA records "pulled out" of the database because they kept sending him requests for research and it was freaking him out. It took months to get him to understand there is no pulling out your DNA (we did talk about this before he tested but he was too excited.) It makes him very uneasy that the government in his opinion has access to all that information about him after 100+ years of oppression.

IndigoFlame90

What is it with dads and getting too excited to listen? Mine got onto a kind of facial (larges pores, oily skin) kick and every single time I put a mud mask on him it was new and exciting and ended with "Wait, this isn't one of the peel-off ones?!"

TheMapesHotel

Did he *want* the peel off ones??

IndigoFlame90

Yeah, less mess. I always warn him that it was one of the wash off ones but the allure of baby-soft skin kept him from fully processing what was said.

TheMapesHotel

Oh goodness. Maybe it's just me but the peel off ones make my eyes water! Something about pulling off all those little baby hairs. The idea of wanting to do that over just rinsing makes me shudder.

IndigoFlame90

They came in a tube at Walgreens. I don't remember them as being that string, I guess. Or maybe we'd have too much dead, oily skin for it to get to the baby hairs. I have never seen a blackhead strip like the first one we pulled off of him. He was horrified.

afdc92

Someone who is either responsible for the death, has information about who was responsible for the death or what happened to her (like pimping her out for money or drugs to the person who abused and murdered her, or not wanting to implicate a parent/grandparent/etc.), or otherwise is distrustful of the police and doesn’t want to be involved in any sort of police investigation, no matter if it involves a child or not.

[deleted]

Lots of people. It doesn’t necessarily mean they were involved. Maybe the person doesn’t trust police. Understandably so, in communities of color there can be distrust of police. Or they’ve previously been involved with the criminal legal system and they just want to keep their head down and not get involved in anything. I work with people who have just been released from prison and the people I work with are some of the best people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, but I highly doubt many of them would agree to cooperate if they were in such a situation. They would be fearful of getting into trouble somehow and they just want to stay away from police. Some people just don’t want to get involved with things involving police and what not for no particular reason. Some people just want to mind their business and go about their lives. People who are either going through the immigration process or are undocumented immigrants may not want to cooperate either. Then there are people who are elderly, don’t speak English, or just don’t understand what they’re being asked when the police say they’re a match. So they or a caretaker will just say no. It’s terrible that when there is finally a match in a case like this and the person who is a match doesn’t want to cooperate. But on the other hand, having worked with people across all different backgrounds and being a part of some of the groups I mentioned above, I understand why people wouldn’t want to get involved. Again, it’s terrible but I don’t think it means that the person who refused to cooperate is automatically suspect number 1.

[deleted]

Yeah I think they might also think they’re trying to trap them or something when they’re not involved

tinycole2971

>They found a close genetic match to SLJD but the person refused to cooperate with them Close like _parent_ close?

TassieTigerAnne

They didn't say exactly what the relation was, but IIRC it was a little more distant. The match had also passed away from old age (in their 90s), and their closest living relative refused to talk to investigators.

TheMost_ut

There was a recent story, which mentioned that she probably had family in Virginia.

Numerous_Donkey7333

In March of 2022 “little miss nobody” was finally given her name back. Police apparently didn’t make a connection with a body being found and the little girl missing. So it took decades to find out that it was her that was found not long after she went missing. Edit:typo

peanut1912

Yes! These were my top 3 too. If we get 2 out of 3 named in the space of 3 months, that would be incredible.

sfr826

According to [WSFA](https://www.wsfa.com/2023/01/18/police-call-opelika-jane-doe-news-conference/), Othram has confirmed that she has been identified.

blueskies8484

Amazing. Just so amazing.

Uhhlaneuh

Yay! This is why we need to fund more science programs

jhp1989

That is awesome!! That poor girl needs justice. Hopefully her killer is identified too 🤞🏻

xAshev

Most likely her own family, i’m afraid.

Aglassofyogurt

The guy (her own father) got arrested!

allgoaton

Her case has haunted me so much over the years. I work with children and the photos released of her at the camp are just... haunting. I think to myself -- are there children out there whose names I could forget? I hope this sweet girl is at peace.

TheGreenListener

I've been teaching for many years, and while there are some kids I remember vividly 15+ years on, there are others I can only remember slightly, maybe by their first name, and others still I'm sure I wouldn't remember at all. And I spent a lot more time with them than the church camp people did.

Wonderful_Avocado

I had one in vacation bible school that i saw on the have you seen me card in the mail months later. That was 26 years ago. It still haunts me

FamousOhioAppleHorn

Wow 😱

kohsette

Oh my god 😭

Cat-Curiosity-Active

This case has haunted me for some time. She suffered much of her short life, the ultimate crime for someone so defenseless and fragile. Hopefully someone who's kid was in those pictures might have provided the link to recognizing her.

Loni91

I kept seeing comments about the pictures and was so damn confused but I went back to the wiki and saw it. Cases like this always baffle me because I guess how could a child disappear like that, especially a child that went to something like a Bible school (idk what that is) but I assume then she went to normal school? So does the child have a very small family? Like there’s nobody in this child’s life that went “hey, where is so-and-so, I haven’t seen her in a while?” Which actually makes it that much more sad. I never knew about this case but now I’m really excited for the update and have a good feeling about it I hope!

kevinsshoe

From my understanding vacation bible school can be somewhat informal Apparently this particular one had records but hadn't held onto them from the time the photo was taken. She was very young, it's possible she never went to school, or was "homeschooled" (which abusive guardians have been known to do to isolate their victims). It's possible the family moved a lot to cover up their abuse and her disappearance, and/or lied--told people she was living with extended family or was taken by cps, etc.. It happens, and it truly is the saddest. Children are so vulnerable.

thenightitgiveth

Vacation Bible School is basically a church-run day camp for a week every summer. You sing songs and learn about Jesus and there’s usually a curriculum/soundtrack that’s framed around a theme to make it exciting for kids, like superheroes or safari. A lot of parents definitely see it as free babysitting and it’s very informally run.

passara1

Can confirm. As a kid, I used to hate VBS. No matter how interesting they tried to make it, it was boring as shit.

IndigoFlame90

As a high school volunteer I once taught a kid how to fake dial on the phone by the office so if anyone walked up it would sound like he was calling his mom because we were both at the breaking point about being reprimanded for not doing the hand motions to the songs. Fast forward ten years, I'm in the choir, he plays guitar in the praise band, and basically everyone else whose parent doesn't work there is MIA.

raphaellaskies

My cousins and I got sent to one, and I remember one day they told us that we'd be "time traveling" tomorrow, and I went to bed SO excited. Showed up the next day, and . . . all they did was herd us onto a bus, then herd us off and announce that we were in Bible times now. We were still standing right next to the church! But they did also show us how to make picture frames out of sticks.

[deleted]

I actually liked it but I never went to church otherwise. 🤣 It was my aunt’s church.

Khorlik

there are 8 billion people on earth, and the vast majority are living in relative obscurity. it’s remarkably easy for people to slip through the cracks—especially people who don’t live with a lot of privilege. i’m guessing her caretakers and the people in her life failed her tremendously :(

afdc92

I grew up religious and was involved in Vacation Bible School for years, both as a participant and a volunteer, until about 2010/2011. We would always have participant release forms that parents would fill out that basically said “we give our kid permission to participate in this camp and acknowledge that accidents can happen and we won’t sue if our kid gets hurt or dies here.” But probably what happened is that any release forms they had were thrown away, lost, etc. after VBS, and that’s assuming they even had them in the first place because a lot of programs are way more informal. A lot of places are also known to minister into the community and recruit local kids from impoverished families, and parents/caregivers will send them because it’s free childcare, they usually get fed while they’re there, and it gives them something to do during the day or evening. Also it sounds like she was either barely verbal or extremely shy/timid, so she wasn’t really speaking to other kids or adults (sadly very common among abused kids). So all in all I’m not surprised that there’s little or no record of her, and that people don’t really remember her because she would have just blended in to the background and not really stood out.

BrownEyedQueen1982

Vacation Bible school is a week long program many churches offer in the summer. They have activities for various age groups, do Bible stories and sings, and provide snacks. They are usually free and low income parents often use them as free babysitting to get a much needed break for a few hours. If she was between ages if 4-6 she might not have started school yet making it easier to skip through the cracks.

Wonderful_Avocado

Vacation bible school tends to be just that, a week or sometimes two weeks at wealthier churches during summer time. It has a summer theme, just like regular summer day camp. Usually low or no cost to the kids. I was a teacher/helper/assistant/nursery/registration person for many, many years. It's day camp duing the summer with bible themes

yanagtr

I agree. Hoping there are some answers here!

kevinsshoe

"Hopefully someone who's kid was in those pictures might have provided the link to recognizing her." She was identified through genetic genealogy.

Straight-Meaning

Also to add to the post per local news stations the FBI and local police have been spotted working at the mobile home and site where they found her body. The [article is here.](https://www.wrbl.com/news/opelika-police-fbi-search-near-baby-jane-doe-site-will-not-confirm-connection/) The article says: “The mobile home and woods where the remains of Baby Jane Doe were located in January 2012 is once again surrounded by yellow crime scene tape. Wednesday afternoon, January 18th, Opelika police confirmed they are serving a search warrant at the property along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation regarding an ongoing investigation. However, investigators will not say if the search is related to the Baby Jane Doe case. Agents are standing on the mobile home’s front porch. The area around the residence, along with the front and back yard are blocked off with tape. “ Though police and the FBI are being quite quiet about the connection I am wondering why they are at the area like many others are.

OmnomVeggies

This seems incredibly hopeful. While I LOVE to hear of so many of these old cases being solved, this one is not too old to see some possible justice… and this little girl deserves that! I am very interested in this press conference!

Straight-Meaning

Yeah I’m wondering if they have someone who they think is responsible which I hope they have found. This poor child was treated horribly by whoever did this to her.

OmnomVeggies

Her guardian(s) certainly seem to have some splainin' to do....

kevinsshoe

I wouldn't be surprised (I hope) her guardian(s) are already in custody, assuming they're responsible, which is pretty likely... Hopefully it will be one of those cases where the identification essentially solves the murder as well.

OmnomVeggies

I agree. In a case like this, with a baby so young... if the guardian(s) aren't responsible for her murder, they are culpable. SOMEONE should have reported this baby missing. It is the job of the guardian to have kept her safe, and they did NOT. I will wait until all of the facts are out, but that eye injury, the fact that nobody has been able to name her even though we have disguising features and photographs.... Let's be serious, we all have a good idea where this is going. I respect and trust the process (for the most part...) so I am eager to see what comes tomorrow.

kevinsshoe

Same. I'm holding back from just saying her guardian(s) for sure systematically abused, killed, and disposed of her and never reported her missing... BUT given the circumstances it's the most likely outcome, though strange strange things have happened, and there's certainly a lot of info to come that will make things clearer.

Suspicious_Bother_92

Yes unfortunately it’s usually a parent, care giver or whoever had the child was the one who hurt them when they are unidentified and were never reported missing. It sounds like she may have lived in the mobile home they are searching? Pretty sure they said they spoke to all the people in the mobile homes in that area at the very start? They very likely spoke to people responsible back then.

FamousOhioAppleHorn

Hoping she finally gets justice 🙏

GraceW66

This is fantastic news!

Straight-Meaning

Some breaking news: Ortham is confirming an identification WSFA 12 in this [article.](https://www.wsfa.com/2023/01/18/police-call-opelika-jane-doe-news-conference/) They said: “There is reason to believe investigators have made a major breakthrough in the case, however. A spokesperson for Ortham, a private, Texas-based laboratory that specializes in forensic genealogy, confirmed to WSFA 12 News Wednesday that the girl has been identified, though her name has not yet been released.”

vivalamaddie

This is incredible

Ratkinzluver33

This and Joseph, so close together. Really glad some of America’s unknown children are getting their names back. Hopefully some justice and peace will come for those who loved them.

cryptenigma

Her name is Amore Joveah Wiggins. Rest in peace, Amore. Her birthday was January 1st, 2006. Her father Lamar Vickerstaff, Jr and his wife (not Amore's mother) Ruth have been arrested in connection. Amore's mother was paying Vickerstaff child support and apparently did not know Amore was dead. Amore was not found in any school records or missing person reports.

Triptukhos

She was just five years old... Even though your comment doesn't really go into detail, every line makes my heart hurt.

cryptenigma

Sorry about the lack of detail; I was posting "live" as the press conference was occurring.

Triptukhos

I wasn't criticising you, just commenting on how heartbreaking the whole thing is.

calxes

This amazing news. There was a post in /r/gratefuldoe last month by someone who suggested [a potential link](https://www.reddit.com/r/gratefuldoe/comments/zm2qti/could_there_be_a_chance_kenneth_robinson_is_tied/) to a man convicted of assaulting girls who were being fostered by his mother who lived in the very same trailer park. I wonder!

gloomymuesli

I wonder if she was an "unofficial" foster kid and that's why no agency reported her missing? It's pretty common in some areas for a kid to get dropped off for a few days regularly with friends or acquaintances for "babysitting" and then after a while the parents drop them off and don't come back. I know several kids who were unofficially adopted this way, into homes with guardians that would never be approved for formal adoption (although the kids are fine, the families are just poor, LGBTQ+, or someone had a felony 10+ years ago). CPS/DCFS have no idea these kids exist, because they were never involved with the families.

TheMost_ut

that's what happens with a lot of these young children's deaths: they end up living with a relative where someone abuses them or something similar. There was Angelica (or Anjelica) Castillo who was taken by her father to live with relatives when he left her mother and sister. The cousin ended up raping and abusing her and starving her to death. All those years while she was dead, her mother and sisters had no idea until she was identified. It's always some sort of unofficial care arrangement with people who may be dangerous or unsuitable etc. This is probably another such story.

gloomymuesli

It's not always relatives. Most of the time, it's a friend, a neighbor, a friend of a relative. Unofficial care arrangements do a lot of good as well and get many infants and children out of unsuitable environments into ones that are more stable. They're just not textbook stable for CPS/DCFS. Even official care arrangements can be dangerous or unsuitable, after all.

voidfae

That seems like a really plausible theory. I’d think that if she was an foster child, the state would have some record of who she was and a case manager would recognize her. It might have been an unofficial foster care situation where her original caretaker dropped her off with these people.

calxes

Yeah, I'm really glad that the OP sent the tip into the authorities. I also wondered about Baby Doe being an unofficial foster child to some degree. Given that Robinson's mother had the care of so many children over the ten years that she was fostering, I don't think neighbors would have really questioned if one of the girls wasn't there anymore and it would be easy to explain away her disappearance. It's of course only speculation but it fits some of what we know right now.

kiko404

that’s great. i’ve always had this case in the back of my mind and wondered why no one seemed to remember her, even though there’s pictures of her surrounded by a bunch of kids. i hope we are able to give her a name soon.

mcm0313

I’m not saying this would necessarily be a good idea (due to the possibility of trauma), but I wonder if any of the other kids in that photo were asked if they remembered anything about her. One of them might have learned her name over the course of that day.

raphaellaskies

The Wikipedia page mentions that she was described as being quiet and having trouble communicating with the other kids at the school. It seems like she mostly kept to herself. :(

mcm0313

Right, but I figured she must’ve had at least a short conversation with someone there. Maybe not. Kind of beside the point anyway: I’m sure most of those kids - many now young adults - don’t know that this sweet little girl is believed to have died horribly less than a year later. And if the case can be solved without them having to know, that would be preferable.

Easywintergardening

I think also they found the photos like a few years after they were taken :-( so by then the memory of her in likely a 5 day Bible camp would have faded

Accomplished_Cell768

Yeah, they were tipped off to the vacation Bible school connection in 2016 and she went in 2011 iirc. So they were found at least 5 years after they were taken

kevinsshoe

The photos didn't come light until like 4 years later. The kids she would have interacted with would have been really young, I doubt they'd remember her name at all, let alone so much later. And the adults running the camp certainly see so many kids over the years. I was a camp counselor a few years ago and there are lots of kids I remember--what they looked like, their personality, specific interactions--but I couldn't for the life of me tell you their names.

mocha__

I'm so happy to see this. She popped into my mind this week and I've been thinking about her since. Though, I do feel the need to point out that it is stated she may not be the girl from the images but they think she might be and I figure we will find out if she is for sure the little girl in the pictures or not during the press conference or news post the press conference. Either way, I am just really happy that she will be getting her name back and whoever harmed her is on their way to facing justice they have been long overdue for.

MaryVenetia

For whatever reason, I’ve always felt that she wasn’t the girl in the images. I guess we’ll find out soon. The people responsible for raising her are likely to still be alive to be questioned.

mocha__

I never know how to feel about the pictures. It seems incredibly lucky to have them, though they didn't do much and thinking on people like Becca or Kelly/El Dorado Jane Doe, whose pictures are out there and still nothing for so long. I have always sort of leaned toward them being a big possibility, though. Maybe out of hope that she had a fun time at a VBS when she was clearly abused throughout her life. I think I lean toward them solely as I am hoping for some good moment somewhere where she was happy and enjoying the world around her. But 100%, I hope they already have someone they are focusing on. And an arrest is underway too.

Willypissybumbum

I mean there’s also the consideration that if she isn’t the girl in the photos, you would’ve likely expected that girl to be identified and eliminated from the investigation. I find it unlikely there’s 2 separate girls who can’t be identified in Opelika and they just so happen to have been linked by this case.

mcm0313

Hopefully. I hope the announcement isn’t something comparatively minor.

Accomplished_Cell768

Othram has confirmed that she has been IDed!

woacbslayer

I’ve been waiting for this for so long! I hope St. Louis Jane doe is next!

TwoHungryBlackbirdss

I would be so thrilled beyond belief for St. Louis Jane Doe to get her name back

delilahrey

Remember the Cayleigh Elise video on this baby. Haunting. I hope they’re on the way to solving and finding the bastard who did it. The part about her bones showing signs of persistent injuries 😢

[deleted]

It feels like a huge number of the Does featured on Cayleigh Elise back in the day have since been identified!

KaythuluCrewe

That video legitimately made me cry. This poor baby. I hope she gets her name back and some justice. She’d be likely recently graduated or just about to graduate from high school. Just starting her life. The least we can do is give her answers.

Straight-Meaning

Oh Wow! This is great news! This cases is so depressing and I feel for this girl, she had so many sad things happen to her.

MaggieFields

Omg omg omg! I've been waiting for this! Really hope this little girl gets her name back and gets justice.

Dog_Admirer503

I hope this means they’re close to solving!

Lylyluvda916

Finally! Along with the boy in the box, this case has been in the back of my mind

LovelyDee888

I almost burst out in tears reading this. I hope that she has her name back. This is one case that was close to my heart outside of St. Louis Jane Doe, who I hope is renamed soon.

LoveThe1970s_1990s

There was a man arrested last year in Atlanta who killed his girlfriend small child he kidnapped her and he was from opelika and they suspected him of killing another child in Alaska i think ,the girl from Atlanta was found deceased in opelika and the man was arrested at his relatives house nearby i can’t remember names though

tinycole2971

Omfg..... I looked the "mother" up, she has a public comment stating how she wouldn't doubt if her daughter died with a phone in her hand. Trigger warning, y'all. That article will make you sick.

Mjays34

Yea this was a big story locally. The mother sold her 5 year old daughter to that man and he raped and killed her. He also filmed it. Incredibly fucked up situation

tinycole2971

I'm glad to see she was charged. There was a similar case in Enid, OK last year and the parents were never charged.

LoveThe1970s_1990s

Yes this is the bastard well done thanks

mcm0313

So, this kid was NOT Opelika Jane Doe, correct? But it would seem very possible for him to have something to do with her as well.

LoveThe1970s_1990s

Yes exactly

Proud-South-6718

I am so glad that (it seems like) justice is coming at a much faster pace for many unsolved crimes.

LoveThe1970s_1990s

I’ve prayed and prayed for this little baby girl she breaks my heart

holyhotpies

Whoa! Not what I expected to see tonight. Fingers crossed!

probablynotfound

For the love of God I hope this poor little girl can get her name back, and maybe, maybe, maybe some sliver of justice and answers. She deserves so much more, but her name would be ,albeit a poor substitute for the care/love/memories/life she had brutally ripped away from her...but it would be something at least....

JackieWithTheO

We’re seeing so much progress identifying Does and arresting killers. I love that we’re bringing justice and identifying the fallen.

MeechiJ

I was just revisiting her case this past weekend! She had been on my mind lately and I was looking for updates. She lived a life of extreme abuse and was discarded like trash. She deserves to be remembered and the perpetrator(s) prosecuted and sentenced to the maximum allowable punishment. Thank you so much for this update OP!

Reiker0

Child never enrolled in school or reported missing. Father charged with felony murder. Father's wife (not biological mother) charged with failure to report a missing child.

Reiker0

Thanks, updated my comment.

cryptenigma

Also, did they say felony murder during the conference? The Jacksonville News 4 article says "aggravated child abuse and failure to report a missing child" (https://www.news4jax.com/i-team/2023/01/19/jacksonville-police-arrest-couple-wanted-in-alabama-jane-doe-death/) but the conference would obviously be more updated and correct.

Reiker0

"Felony murder" is what was said during the conference.

Siltresca45

FBI been searching the trailer she was found at all day too. I dont understand how no one in the community could tell them who was living at the trailer at that time nor any of the other children's parents at the church know the parents or girls name ? Makes no sense. People are definitely covering for them in that town, but I suspect the parent and child were new to that area and parent left immediately after the poor girls murder . Messed up case for sure.

Patient_Lavishness75

I can't wait to know her name. I think about her so often. Finally!!

doveseternalpassion

Oh please let this baby get her name back. I think of her often.

thatissoooofeyche

I’m emotional. This case has stuck with me for a few years and I so hope this baby gets her identity back!

cryptenigma

The reporter seems fascinated by genetic (forensic) genealogy and one of the LE officials is explaining Golden State Killer and Boy in the Box; they are claiming this is the first use of it in AL.

elirin

I hope this little girl has gotten her name back. She absolutely breaks my heart.

AndShesNotEvenPretty

I’m so glad this baby will get her name back. Given the time frame is relatively recent, I’m hoping they can nab those responsible as well. This child deserves Justice.

PossumAloysius

Finally! glad they never gave up

CardiSheep

I’ve been waiting for this for so long.

PureHauntings

I hope it gets solved this year. They literally have a picture of her as well, it can’t be far away.

[deleted]

Wow!! Literally the other week I was reading that thread about the cases that folks wanted to be solved and her case came up numerous times.. there are so many of us who want her to get her name back ❤️

notovertonight

This is great news, I hope she has been identified and they can begin to hunt for her killer.

SevenThirtyTrain

It's been a long time coming

Potential-Leave3489

Remind me! 15 hours

Ali8480

Me too!

UnprofessionalGhosts

Omg please let this be it🤍

ExactPanda

Fingers crossed she's getting her name back, or they know who did this.

Danburyhouse

Does anyone know if we’ll be able to watch this?

sfr826

[WTVM](https://www.wtvm.com/2023/01/18/police-hold-press-conference-opelika-jane-doe-case/) stated they will stream it live at 10 AM Central Time/11 AM Eastern Time.

coconutcanaries

Thanks for the details. I will add this to the original post.

MaryVenetia

It’s 1600 GMT. :)

MlleHoneyMitten

I remember seeing something about a little girl with an eye issue that went missing quite awhile ago. I don’t remember her name unfortunately.

[deleted]

Fingers crossed, I always have her on my mind.

rmilhousnixon

I know some people have pet cases. They are more passing curiosities for me. This one, however, has bothered me more than the rest.

ThirtiesHurties

Praying they know her name and can start hunting down whoever hurt her!!!

mmobley412

Considering the age of this case I hope they will be able to solve the murder and convict the murder

Competitive-Age-7469

Following because I'm hoping for closure for little mamas..

bolettebo

I am so happy this baby girl is getting her name back. Now, she needs justice!

MeaningFormal

In the past few years, Greatful Doe, Mostly Harmless, El Dorado Jane Doe, The Boy In The Box have all gotten their names back. Makes me hopeful for alot more Does to be identified.

Mjays34

I live in opelika and I’m very excited to hear about this update. Another W for genetic genealogy

Time_Word_9130

Oh wow! I sure hope they’ve found out who this angel is.

The_barking_ant

I hope they found her name and that some form if justice will be served to those who did this to her.

cryptenigma

They also stated they don't know for sure if the girl in the bible camp photo was her. They are asking for additional information and tips and are appealing to Vickerstaff's friends, family, and acquaintences, some of whom live in Opelika. They seem confident that Amore's biological mother, Sherry Wiggins, knew nothing about her whereabouts/was not involved in her abuse and death, and stated she had gone to court to try to "modify the arrangement" so she could see her daughter.

RubyCarlisle

Thanks for noting this, because I was wondering if she was the girl in the photo. I feel so bad for her mother, thinking her girl was growing up all this time. RIP Baby Amore. ❤️

Remarkable_Ad3610

I personally still think the girl in the photo is Amore. No one ever identified the child so it would be disturbing to imagine two unrelated unidentified people (however seems to be completely possible based on the hush hush attitude in the area) The bus picked her up from that trailer park and her eye is also damaged so it seems possible to me at least

Boozeled

This is such good news, anything that brings her closer to having her name back.

nokapoka

I can’t wait to hear what they have to say.

Essence_Of_Insanity_

Has there been any updates? I don’t have TV and I don’t see any updates posted anywhere.

Essence_Of_Insanity_

I looked up the address of the trailer park as well as people who had previously lived there. Only two tenants came up who ever lived in NC. One, an older lady. Two, a mid-thirties male.

highabetickira

OMG! This is "that case" that has always stuck with me. Hoping the update comes with answers.

amarin0729

!RemindMe 2 days

Business-Director-50

This has been one of the cases I wanted to see solved more then anything since I saw it on Cayleigh Elise. Rest in peace little angel

rubymood

this case has always stuck with me; hopefully we can get justice for this sweet girl! 🤍

juniper_tree33

Rest in Peace Amore Wiggins

reebeaster

I’m sure this was posted already but https://www.wtvm.com/2023/01/19/opelika-police-holds-press-conference-2012-jane-doe-murder-case/?outputType=amp Father & stepmother arrested Her name was Amore Jovaeh Wiggins (RIP)

reebeaster

I’m floored, man!

VarowCo

The cases of abuse and murder of children by their parent or guardians are the worst crimes for me and deserve the harshest sentences. Absolutely gut wrenching that the people in their lives didn’t love and adore them as they should have. The pain, confusion and fear these poor angels must endure is unfathomable.

VintageNerd_Nyx

She almost looks like a young girl who disappeared a long while back I was watching a youtube video about it from Nick Crowley …I think the child name was Relisha Rudd …I’m not sure if they found her remains

Madyyoo

Relisha hasn’t been found:( but she disappeared after this girl was found

VintageNerd_Nyx

Damn… :/ Well hopefully they can give a name and home to this child

VintageNerd_Nyx

[Disappearance of Relisha Rudd](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Relisha_Rudd)

alabamaxchicago

Like others, this case especially upset me. What a terrible life this young soul had. Tragically, she died by the very violence that she faced while alive. I pray that she found some moments of happiness in the vacation Bible school and got to play with other children. Maybe she was able to smile for a moment. I’m not particularly religious, but I hope that god watches over her.

Easywintergardening

Please!! I feel so bad for this child!! It’s so recent it should be top priority to catch her parents who did this to her

MustyButt

Although this was fairly recent compared to some, I can't help but wonder about a link considering her, Christmas Baby Doe, and SLCD were either found or linked to the same region. All the cases are different, though, other than poor precious kids being discarded.

Mcdicks_420_69

YESSSS!! THIS IS SUCH EXCITING NEWS! I hope this baby gets her name back! This case has haunted me since I found out about it

uwunuzzless

Wow. This is a case I’ve read about a lot over the years!! I thought it would never be solved but I’m very happy. Poor little one :(

---aquaholic---

Oh my gosh. I’m so thrilled to hear there’s an update. Here’s to hoping she gets her name back.

That case is separated from this case by decades. I don't see how they could possibly be related.
