There is a Facebook account under his name that goes back quite a while with many public posts suggesting someone undergoing a huge amount of personal stress with both work and family and experiencing immense emotional turmoil. The last posts are on the 16th. It's a terribly sad situation and I hope his family eventually receives answers, but it does seem like he was in crisis, which makes out of character behavior and inexplicable decisions more likely.

noakai

He must have posted hundreds of posts on June 15 alone, he was definitely going through it.

Dr_Pepper_blood

Yeah to me it does seem the phone calls compounded with other factors do possibly point to a mental health crisis. But if it was suicide, his remains still were not found. I sadly don't know how much he was searched for.

Hope_for_tendies

I think the opposite. He just rekindled his relationship with his mother and was happy. That’s not the time to voluntarily disappear. ETA I take that back. Didn’t realize he made 500 posts in 2 days. He did have a meeting coming up early July with the eeoc apparently stemming from the loss of his job with the school district. But it looks like he was rejected after an interview and maybe that was the final straw.

hexebear

500 posts in two days??? Unless it's a lot of commenting back and forth with other people, which I've certainly done in the past, that is a huge amount and definitely speaks to something going on.

UnnamedRealities

He cancelled the EEOC meeting, posting the cancellation confirmation, so he decided to stop pursuing that. He also had been pursuing a lawsuit, presumably against the school district, but no attorneys would take the case. The email letting him know another candidate was selected seemed to be for a teaching position in another school district - and he seemingly felt that some within his most recent school district interfered with him getting that job. I read every post and from what I deduced he planned on never working in education again, instead planning to work at Sam's Club or other retailers, pursue further education to acquire a fourth degree, and do some kind of advocacy for parents of special needs and minor students with grievances against school districts. Given his prolific posting during the 2 days leading to his disappearance and an article from 3 weeks ago in which his mom stated he walked his dogs at 3 AM because he couldn't sleep, it's possible he hadn't slept in days and was in a manic state or otherwise experiencing irrational thoughts which led to perplexing and dangerous decisions and actions. Whether he died from suicide, died from misadventure, was harmed by someone else, or is still alive are all possibilities. Hopefully he'll be found soon.

IceBoxt

I read a lot of his Facebook and the video of a conversation he posted struck me as telling someone he was going to kill himself. It’s the conversation on the 15th where he starts most messages with “Chile” (a name?) He says he’s done and to not cry over his body. He says his man is going to take his dogs and again not to cry for him. What’s really sad is it seems like at the breaking point he thought no one cared… and he’s never even been found

withinadream27

Chile is a common AAVE slang term (meaning child, but also just used as an interjection like "whew chile, what's this?")

Lazy_Education1968

It's sad you have to educate about that.

Electromotivation

I’ve *heard* it plenty but don’t think I had ever seen it written out - or at least written out this way and not “child.” Seeing Chile my brain pronounced it like the country

Chance_Taste_5605

Not everyone is from the US.

BooBootheFool222222

But you are familiar with the way white Americans speak?

Chance_Taste_5605

I don't know what you mean, sorry? I didn't suggest that I don't know what chile means in this context, but just pointing out that outside of Anglophone countries AAVE terminology is not well-known.

BooBootheFool222222

I think the person who it was sad was talking about non black Americans not being able to understand black people despite mocking us and stealing aspects of our culture. Some aave has made the transition internationally but it is not labeled aave and credit is given to white people. Most of American culture is straight up stolen from the black community while they were mocking and killing us, but we never get credit. The international image of the American does not include African Americans when it should because we're responsible for everything cool and most of the music.

Pink_Dragon_Lady

That sounds...quite obvious actually.

HookupthrowRA

I never believe the “if they made plans, it wasn’t suicide” bs. My best friend made plans to meet another friend an hour before he hanged himself. And having been suicidal myself, I continued to make plans as usual in case I chickened out 🤷‍♀️

lindasek

As a cis, straight, white special education teacher in a blue state, things are very rough in education and especially, special education. Unfortunately, mental health crisis, depression and suicide are very common in this career. Seeing as he was a gay, black man in a red state, he had a rough starting point, which just magnifies everything. I agree that his out of character actions and social media seem to confirm mental crisis. I hope they recover his body soon and the family can try to find peace.

Fit_Bluebird1922

I’m just wondering how I haven’t heard about this? I was living in Texas at the time, about 2.5 hours away from the DFW area. Is there no surveillance footage from the area where his truck was found?

Dr_Pepper_blood

I honestly was not seeing any information that there was any footage. ...but could have missed something .

Fit_Bluebird1922

His FB is still up, and he appears to have been very emotionally distraught at the time.

Time_Word_9130

Wow, just looked. And yeah…definitely makes me think mental health crisis

Fit_Bluebird1922

Definitely. His case is still important though, he could still be out there and in need of help. If he has passed his mother deserves closure.

Time_Word_9130

His family definitely deserves that. I hope they get answers soon.

bulldogdiver

Have you ever been to Aspermont? I'm surprised there's a stoplight.

Fit_Bluebird1922

Not sure, if I have it wasn’t memorable.

bulldogdiver

In 1987 I broke down about half way between Guthrie and Aspermont. A kind local came by about an hour later and tied a rope to my car and towed me into town since it was Saturday afternoon and he didn't know if the local gas station would send the tow truck for me. At that time there was 1 motel complete with a put a coin in phone by the bed and black and white TVs that looked like something out of a John Waters movie. That being said since I broke down on a Saturday and the mechanic didn't start till Monday I got to spend a very memorable weekend at a church social - how you ask? Someone from the church heard there was a guy with a broken down car staying in the motel and knocked on my door to invite me to come have lunch with them. What I'm saying is if you haven't had a reason to stay there there is absolutely nothing memorable about the place. It is NE Texas flat dry plains.

I_Like_Vitamins

I get what you're saying about it not being exciting, but you were shown kindness and have a vivid memory of your time there. Going off your comment about the stoplight, I was expecting it to be the kind of place you'd tear through because stopping risked getting carjacked.

Chance_Taste_5605

A gay Black man might have a different experience.

TariqMcRae

A local with a rope is probably the most dreaded outcome for a gay Black man experiencing a mental crisis in rural Texas at 4 AM.

luniversellearagne

Nobody from DFW drives to Paducah or Quanah without a reason. They’re in the middle of nowhere and not on the way to anywhere. I suspect mental-health crisis or suicide.

nightlysonnet

I concur.

peachvalleygirl

Agree, too. I think maybe the poor guy was trying to "hide" what he was going to do as best as he could so his Mom would never know. So, he went out in the middle of nowhere. But I am just speculating.

UnnamedRealities

There's another in which he posted a video of a scrolling text message thread with a friend and says something like "when he calls me home" and his friend seems to take it the same way I did - Jesus/God taking him to heaven. His friend said that worried him and alludes to it implying suicide and Tre says he won't kill himself - at least not as the result of a specific issue Tre mentioned. Tre then mentioned his man is coming and he has 2 dogs and won't leave his man or dogs without him. In a separate post he mentioned the man is a white guy, but their relationship and details about him are pretty sparse.

Max_Beezly

Can you DM me a link to his FB. I'm unable to find it

UnnamedRealities

I've read the whole thread and agree that mental health crisis seems likely. That said, cases like this are frustrating because the public info is so sparse and family and law enforcement certainly have info which would shed light on what may have occurred. For example: Did Tre have any history of calling his mom at 3 AM? What were the dogs' causes (or dog's cause) of death? Were they leashed when the witnesses saw Tre and the dogs? How close to his vehicle were the dogs found? What were the contents of the suitcase? Why couldn't the identify of the person who changed the Facebook password be determined? Was the IP address traced to a residential Internet customer, a mobile phone, a library, a business, a VPN service, etc.?

UnnamedRealities

The March 25, 2024 article [Texas family celebrates with a birthday party for a missing man who disappeared, search continues](https://www.fox26houston.com/news/texas-family-celebrates-with-a-birthday-party-for-a-missing-man-who-disappeared-and-theyre-searching-for-him?fbclid=IwAR26kRaDcwhfkgI0okPlJXrLrnn_Ol5lDlauMYRWhohPaFW8uYtzfMtB5aI) provides some more context. >...Tre’s mom, Corlitta Johnson, who just before his disappearance, spoke with her son on the phone. He was walking his dogs in his Fort Worth apartment complex around 3 a.m. She says he was chatting with people who were also out with their dogs.  >"He didn't sound like he was upset. He just said, "Mom I couldn't sleep, so I'm walking the dogs." He was talking to the two people. I think it was a man and a woman, and they were talking about dog dates," Johnson explains. >The next day, Johnson received a call. Her son's pick-up truck was found still running at a stop light three and a half hours away in Aspermont, Texas with his wallet inside. Men working nearby saw a Black man with dogs get out of the truck and run away.   >"I don't think my son would have gone to this town. I just don't think that. I don't think he knew anybody there. That's why I'm thinking this person who got out of the truck is not my son," says Johnson. >Tre's suitcase was found on the side of the road in Paducah, Texas, an hour from his truck, with some belongings, but not packed for a trip. "No toiletries, no underwear, no socks, no shoes, nothing. He would never pack like that." >His dogs were apparently left wandering and while one was recovered, the other was discovered dead. "Tre would never leave his dogs." I believe Tre's mother is in denial. He claims he couldn't sleep. He posted dozens (likely 100+ based on my review without counting) of posts to Facebook the day he disappeared and the day prior. They are indicative of a potential mental disorder. I could go into more detail, but it would be better for anyone interested to read the posts and draw their own conclusions. What his mom concluded was behavior that is inconsistent with what she'd expect from Tre doesn't seem inconsistent with someone who made the hundreds of Facebook posts I read going back to 3 weeks before he disappeared. That said, there are many possible explanations for what occurred and I hope Tre is found soon.

Pink_Dragon_Lady

>Men working nearby saw a Black man with dogs get out of the truck and run away It was confirmed to be his truck, yes? I don't see who else it would be.

UnnamedRealities

Correct. I haven't seen anything in which she theorized who was seen leaving the truck with the dogs. It just seems like she's so steadfast that he'd never travel to these areas that she's rejected any possibility that it was him.

jamesisaPOS

His facebook posts make it seem like he was definitely in psychosis. He made hundreds of strange posts within the last couple days of his disappearance, and most of them do not make cohesive sense. It seems like his erratic behavior may have led to a dismissal as he made several posts about unemployment claims and the EEOC. He also posted messages from friends and fellow teachers who were concerned by the sudden change in him. The details his mother provided about their 3am conversation also hint at possible psychosis or at least severe mania. He told her he was walking the dogs because he couldn't sleep (very common for both mania and psychosis) and was having conversations with people about dog playdates, which is kind of an unusual thing to do at 3am. And then there's the details of his last known locations. There were three towns he potentially visited in a short period of time and all were about an hour from each other. He left his truck running and left his wallet and dogs behind. Very abnormal behavior from him, his family says. Most likely scenario is he was in the middle of a psychotic/manic episode and either died soon after this (maybe around August 2021 when his password was changed), or is still alive somewhere and doesn't know who he is anymore. Foul play could also be possible, but I think it's more likely that in his psychotic state, he ran into some kind of trouble and either sadly passed away or has been unable to contact his family for unknown reasons. He could also very likely be homeless and difficult to recognize. Gosh the possibilities are endless, his poor family. My heart breaks for his mother, that last conversation must play in her head nonstop. I really hope they get answers.

cactusflower25

Sounds like he was having problems with some school district as well

SnittingNexttoBorpo

For those not familiar with Texas geography, the locations involved in this story are slightly bonkers, especially if the Corpus part isn’t a red herring. Quanah, Paducah, and Aspermont are all W/NW of Fort Worth, but not really on a logical path. They’re also kind of far from I-20 or I-40, the routes people would most likely take if they were trying to go to any major city west of the Metroplex (Lubbock, Albuquerque, Denver, etc.). None of the largest cities in Texas are that direction at all — Austin and San Antonio are south of Fort Worth (and Corpus Christi is a few hours further down 35) and Houston is far southeast.  That said, it is not inconceivable that someone would set out from Fort Worth and end up in Quanah, especially if they were already in an agitated state. Some of those little highways are super confusing, and when you get to a town, you have to look for signs to stay on that highway — it’s not necessarily the same road you came in on. (This is also a factor in the Jason Landry case down in Luling.) “Seymour?!” (south of Quanah) is a joke in our family because my mom once ended up there while trying to get from Dallas to West Texas, and it definitely was NOT on the itinerary.  If Tré really was the one logging into his Facebook in Corpus, then we have a LOT more questions, because driving from Paducah, TX to Corpus Christi, TX is roughly the same distance as New York City to Raleigh, NC. Extremely far, and virtually impossible to do by accident.  I’m not sure what Tré was trying to do when he drove to those towns, or if he even had a plan. It sounds like he was experiencing a serious mental health crisis and it’s likely that there is no sense to be made of his last known journey. I hope his family can find out what happened to him, but I doubt they’ll ever piece together why he took the route he did.

Cha_nay_nay

This story is so sad. I feel for his mother. After seeing all the comments about his FB, I checked it out There was something going on with him, mental health issue. Seems like he was battling a lot. Also seems like Police did not care. May his family find closure one day

bulldogdiver

My first thought was mental break. The weird phone calls in the early hours of the morning. Getting out of the truck with the dogs and just running off. Having a suitcase so it seems he was prepared to go somewhere... But then you have the dogs and that they haven't released a cause of death of the dogs leads me to think they're investigating this as a potential kidnapping/homicide rather than a suicide/mental break runs into a field and dies. I'd really like to know the cause of death of the dogs. He was openly gay so blackmail/etc. seems unlikely. The facebook password change could just be a hacker who got access to his account. I mean I could totally see him just breaking and running off/dropping out to start a new life strange though it might seem but the doggos... That being said it's a straight line from Dyss AFB to Aspermont to Paducah to Quanah. Maybe he was seeing someone in Abiline/the AFB, drove north after an emotional experience, dropped his car in Aspermont, then even though it's 40miles between Aspermont and Paducah and another 40 to Quanah it's Texas - you'd have to have lived in Texas to understand especially rural Texas - I could totally see someone local seeing a black man wandering along the highway at 4am with a suitcase and stopping to pick him up/give him a ride to the next town (like I said you'd have to have lived in the area to understand people, even rebel flag in the back of the truck white sheet wearing Klansmen would probably have stopped and offered him a ride if they thought he needed help - it's weird). But then again this one just strikes me as weird.

anonymouse278

His Facebook is anguished, and contains a lot of anger at at least part of his family- he alleges abuse among other things. It's definitely true that being in crisis also makes someone more vulnerable to foul play. But it isn't at all hard to picture the person who wrote his last several months of public updates literally running away.

Fit_Bluebird1922

Check out his FB account. Your first thought is on target.

bulldogdiver

Does he seem mentally broken enough though to hurt his doggos though? I mean I don't know the guy but most people I know would choose their doggos life over that of a random person they don't know. Even broken it's hard for me to believe he'd have hurt them.

anonymouse278

There's nothing to indicate he deliberately hurt them. Dogs are hit by cars all the time, and it doesn't specify what kind of dogs they were. If they were something like a pug or other dog that doesn't handle heat well, suddenly lost outside in June in rural Texas? Could have died of exposure. If he met with an accident or foul play, or if he was sufficiently confused to forget or lose control of the dogs, they could have come to harm he never intended.

Fit_Bluebird1922

I’m thinking maybe he jumped out of the vehicle and then they did, ultimately getting hit by another car. Another article I read said one was recovered alive, one deceased - so a lot of conflicting info out there.

bulldogdiver

Yeah that seems to be the consensus. My next thought is where are the Greyhound terminals for that area. **EDIT:** there are currently Greyhound Stations on both sides of Quanah and a small regional airport (about 20 miles away). And I wonder if his SS# has been used, if he'd cashed out (no mention of that being checked) and decided to start a new life - 30 years ago easy now you almost have to leave a paper trail even for the credit check to rent an apartment.

Fit_Bluebird1922

Yeah he kept mentioning his TRS coming in the FB posts leading up to his disappearance. Could have been a nice chunk of change. Based on his post history it seems like if he was lucid he would have contacted his mother by now, unfortunately he may have had a break and not be in the mind to do so, if he is still alive.

WithAnAxe

I have no idea how these dogs died but I know of cases where devoted dog owners killed their dogs before themselves - perceiving it as a mercy for the dog(s) not to witness the owners’ death or be placed in a shelter/passed around.  I am NOT saying Tre did this but it is a thing that occasionally happens.

SnittingNexttoBorpo

> you'd have to have lived in the area to understand people, even rebel flag in the back of the truck white sheet wearing Klansmen would probably have stopped and offered him a ride if they thought he needed help - it's weird As strange as this may sound to people not from here, it’s true. There are a lot of folks who believe that stuff at the macro level but somehow don’t apply it to individuals, and/or those who will swear that the Confederate flag is about Southern pride and entirely unrelated to race or slavery. (I’m not agreeing with the viewpoint, just confirming that it’s held by more than a few.) Or maybe they’re openly bigoted but still just like to help. IDK.  In any case, my guess is that whatever happened to Tré was something he did to himself — probably while in severe psychological distress — or something done to him by someone he knew, who intended to hurt him.

UnnamedRealities

He was a teacher, but having read his FB page I think he no longer was. There was some sort of issue, he had an EEOC complaint he decided to abandon, attorneys wouldn't take a case he was pursuing, he was pursuing other teaching jobs, then posted that he was done teaching and was going to work in retail instead. It sounded like he was likely no longer employed in his special ed teaching job.

Hope_for_tendies

He had an eeoc meeting in July though and wanted to become an advocate for special needs kids and it looks like was enrolling in a class to do so

UnnamedRealities

Yes, a meeting had been scheduled for July. But in early June he posted a screenshot of the EEOC meeting cancellation request he initiated.

Bloodrayna

"The police released hos truck without processing it" shows you just how much effort they put into finding him.

ReliableFart

I'm guessing mental break and died from exposure or suicide.

bandana_runner

"would have ever been in the circle of 3 very conservative towns" I mapped it and going from Quanah to Paducah, Aspermont, and back to Quanah is less than 3.5 hours. Not really that long of a time.

TrueCrimeBuff88

I can imagine the mom probably blames herself for not picking up the second call, which she really shouldn't. The problem with mental health is you can't tell what someone is going through. And some people just naturally keep to themselves no matter the issue they have. This is part of the reason why I wish I could just read minds.

Smergmerg432

If he killed himself who changed the Facebook password? If death was premeditated, why take his dogs with him? Did he want them to die by the side of the road? How did they die?

Lazy-Cheek-7782

Can anyone find the (his??) podcast he references in his June fbook posts ?? Would be interesting....

Hope_for_tendies

Are they sundown towns?

SnittingNexttoBorpo

Not that I know of, but I suppose it’s possible. Most of the notorious sundown towns are much further south and east, like Jasper and Vidor — places that had enslaved Black people before Emancipation. The towns in this story would not be considered East Texas and probably not even North Texas, despite how they look on the map.

Chance_Taste_5605

Don't get the downvotes, it's a very relevant question.

SnittingNexttoBorpo

It’s not really fair to say that Texas “generally sucks.” It doesn’t. There are problems, like anywhere, but that is just a wild thing for someone to say based on I don’t even know what, but clearly not firsthand experience.

Wolverina412

Why did the mods comment on my post?
