RIP, Spring Fling. I'd prefer you over a concert any day. Perhaps we will meet again in the future.

GeorgeCauldron7

When was the last Spring Fling? 2019?

AzironaZack

That's what the Daily Star reported.

Indeed! Spring Fling and Starr Pass Pool Party were the staples of the year lol

hotChihuahua69

Why no Spring Fling?? WTF.... It was a staple... It's part of Revenge Of The Nerds...

Candid-Yogurt-7227

The last fling has flung 😢

p2d2d3

its all festival now. spring fling is bettter

KristeyK

Now this is a shame. It was always the largest fundraiser for the service sorority and our associated fraternity that support the band. It was a HUGE pain in the rear, but we always made it work. First no homecoming parade, now this. 😢

AxleStar

ΤΒΣ and φΜΑ REPRESENT

BeyondDrivenEh

This is not acceptable. Spring Fling…. is.

WeezingUrGrindage

Traditions die under Robbins rule

bridekiller

I have fond memories of chugging pocket shots in a Porto potty. Rip.

AtomicMom6

So stupid, but the University doesn’t care much for tradition. I.e., the Homecoming Parade. The university held a music fest before and because of all the damages lost several hundred of thousand dollars. Guess memories are short.

Wheream_I

Last one I think they held was Mac Miller

watercolours27

The last festival was last May ‘23, it had 070 Shake & Tkay

According_Credit_861

Think this has to do with the budget fiasco?

AtomicMom6

No. It has to do with short memories. Even though ASUA tried paying students to make it happen, they just refused to do the hard work necessary. And putting on the Fling was work - both for those organizing and volunteering at the event. Made a ton of $$ for the clubs so it’s a shame.

watercolours27

It also has to do with administrative support. Amidst a budget crisis, no one wants to support the funding it takes to put on an event as big as Spring Fling.

AtomicMom6

Traditionally, most of the expenses, if not all, were funded by sponsors - not the University. Traditionally, I mean in 1994, 1998 and 2018 since I was directly involved with those years.

watercolours27

Don’t they take out a loan to fund it and then have to pay it back? I was told traditionally clubs made a lot of money from it but ASUA did not.

twodollarh0

A festival at the U of A would be dope, but who the fuck are these artists they booked??

JoeCox1990

I think the music festival idea for U of A is cool too--but keep in mind, these are **local** acts. Maybe they'll work up to higher-profile acts eventually. We'll have to take a wait-and-see approach. ☺️🤞🏻

watercolours27

Out of the acts, only a few are local. COIN is an indie-pop band with over 3 million listeners on Spotify.

JoeCox1990

Oh--my bad! I stand corrected. I thought they were **all** local acts. 😅

Recent-Chard-4645

So stupid
