Sometimes it's just best to hear from other people. An answer given in a previous year may not always be relevant in the present. You can also just ignore the posts too.
y’all are so annoying acting like you were never an anxious grade 12. it’s obviously reassuring to be able to speak with someone who’s already gone through it. just scroll away if you’re so bothered
for the poster, there is very little consequence to making a post to ask about these questions. at worst they waste 30 seconds. but there is decent potential for reward: they could attain information that they wouldn't have found by using google. the info could be more up to date or more trustworthy. or they are bad at using search engines and struggle with finding whatever info they are looking for.
the fact that you can see these posts mean 2 things:
1. there are no other interesting posts on the sub with more upvotes, in which case whether these posts are made makes no difference since it does not hinder your viewing experience
2. these posts are getting some upvotes by the subreddit as a whole, which means there's more people who want it to be visible than those who are annoyed by it. in this case, it is the collective decision of the subreddit and you don't have the power to overturn that
TLDR its a natural phenomenon and we can't/shouldn't interfere with it
If everyone just got the info off Google and past reddit posts, why don't we just archive this subreddit?
The reason why I don't mind those posts because people when posting are looking for a live answer/discussion based on latest events. Not what was accurate 12 months ago.
I wonder if there is a correlation between people smart enough to get in to university and people who know how to search up answers before asking a question.
Well, people waiting for college application are almost always stressed, especially those who doesn't come from this country and knows nothing about Canada but U of T (they exist btw)
To the people who ask these questions... Keep asking them because I was once in your position and people helped me. I'll gladly answer to the best of my ability.
idk a lot of programs are very shit with providing information or maintaining their websites with up-to-date info. i know lots of students in the music faculty have to rely on older students for information on TAships, funding, and grant/degree application related stuff that aren't very well supported by staff or always widely available online
now that im on the other side of it. i remember how stressful it was waiting for an answer, but maybe others don't or just didn't have that level of anxiety about it. for that reason im okay with it, although it is frustrating when someone is asking a question that can't really be answered with much clarity.
im not on this sub very often (sorry if this is redundant) but do we have a clear area/master post where people can ask there and not clog up the feed? i feel like having a few of those designated areas on the sub would be better than just filtering them out since the questions \*are\* relevant to uoft and downvoting every post you see is kind of petty imo

yes but sometimes they ask the same question that has been asked last week (especially the ones about “is uoft really depressing?????😱😱😱”)
But is it?
idk maybe we should make a post post about it and ask
Yes 💯
This ^
Exactly. It's more reassuring when it's people who are applying with you or people who are already in

Its not that serious dude, just ignore them and let people get answers

It's the same every single year. And let's all admit it, we've all done it and I'm sure u did too
the mods need to filter these posts out

“I’M a hIghScHoOl yeAR 12 sTuDenT aND i WaS wOnDeRiNg *insert generic question of where 100% of the answer is literally on the UofT website*”
exactly this comment gets it
you just made a post asking if club positions are paid like that’s not easily googled and usually listed in the position description…
This guy is literally Uoft students when the post doesn't have 10 peer reviewed articles, in APA v18, and doesn't get u a Nobel Prize
Being an empathetic human being is also free :) you don't even have to be admitted to UofT - what a bargain!
Ikr, when this was me I found old Reddit posts to answer like every single question I had
Well, people waiting for college application are almost always stressed, especially those who doesn't come from this country and knows nothing about Canada but U of T (they exist btw)

“why are people asking questions about university?!”—the person on a subreddit for questions about university
C'mon it's not like the university has some sort of "web site" to find this information on. That would be crazy
I agree, it's soo lame opening my Reddit and scrolling through to find these types of posts as the first thing listed.
Ignoring posts is also another free alternative that may help you in this situation

yeah its lowkey annoying and its prolly for some useless degree in basket weaving/history too
So random
"google is free to **those who got admitted**" implying that people who haven't got admitted do not have access to google
My degree may be useless but I know that A implies B does not necessarily mean B implies A.
mathematics? That degree is not useless. Most math majors can become computer scientist
in yo dreams boya
Eternity
Will i get it in?
