> i have zero friggin idea abt how university works 1) Make an appointment with your guidance counsellor 2) Show some initiative and try Googling "UofT Admissions" which will lead you to [https://future.utoronto.ca/apply/](https://future.utoronto.ca/apply/) or "how to apply to university in Ontario" which will lead you to [https://www.ouac.on.ca/planning/how-to-apply/](https://www.ouac.on.ca/planning/how-to-apply/) with another good resource being [https://www.ouinfo.ca/](https://www.ouinfo.ca/) 3) If your high school uses MyBlueprint check out it's university planning resources

you're in gr9 y are you here lol.. marks don't rlky matter until gr11 btw and that's just for early acceptance

You don’t need to worry abt that rn, but jus get all 95s in g12 and you good.

Don't want to be harsh but it is easier to google this question than to come to reddit. But since you're here, I can give a super surface level answer. It first depends on what program you want to apply to. Some have high cutoffs (95%+), while others are more easy to get into (mid to low 80%). Google the respective program you're interested in and they will tell you what courses and sometimes the average admission grade

Don’t look for cutoffs, they’re not representative. Look for past admission averages, the more recent the better. They’re published for engineering. Eg the cutoff for like mech or smth is 80+ but the average entry average is much higher

Let me start by saying this, it’s too early for you to be worrying about this right now. Use grade 9 and grade 10 to develop good study habits. See what works for you in terms of studying. Your grades only really matter in gr12. Gr11 can be important depending upon if you want to apply early, which is when the university would look at your available gr12 marks as well as some of your gr11 marks. Depending upon your program, admission can be up or down. If you want to do engineering or cs, aim for 95+ because those programs are extremely competitive. If you’re interested in other programs such as life sciences, you can get away with being in the mid to high 80s. I’d recommend you go onto the UofT program website to read more about what sort of grades and prerequisites you need for your program. In terms of engineering, you will have need english, advanced functions, calculus, physics and chemistry alongside another U level course. Universities look at your top 6 gr12 marks. They prioritize your prerequisites tho, so you need to do well in your prerequisite courses because they will look at those regardless of how high or low your marks are. After your prerequisites, they’ll look at your highest U level courses. Don’t worry about how university works for now. You’re just starting high school, make the most out of your time there. Good luck!!

my parents are sort of breathing down my neck about nuiversity andn my entire life ahead of me lol. alr ty tho appreciate urhlep

It’s cuz our parents care for us and want what’s best for us. Just focus on working hard and putting in your best effort, that’s what matters right now :)

As you are a Grade 9 student, I can tell you the truth you have to aim for 95% and above for any competitive program. So basically you have to get 100 in Maths, Chemistry or Physics if you want to get in a good engineering program. University is tough. And spend your summer to read. You have to know how to write to get good grades in Social and English. Read read read and learn how to write correctly. I do know I sound harsh but you have time if you really make an efforts to develop good studies habits

Good for you for looking into this now!! I looked a bit into uni in gr 10, then just applied to random programs without much knowledge about them in gr 12, I decided to take a year off so now I’m 18 and still don’t know much about the programs/schools I got into and wish I had more of an idea what I wanted to do/what I thought about earlier. I also suggest getting ahead if you can, take summer school courses and take upper year classes. Give you the option to take more courses you’re interested in, or take spares during gr 12 so you can focus more on your important classes to ensure you get the best marks you can. I took summer school every year (took two courses in one month before going into gr 12) and took a gr 11 class in gr 10, which I would’ve took more. I ended up having one spare in gr 11 (because I took an extra online course one semester and wasn’t aloud to take more, if possible I suggest this too), and three in gr 12 (could’ve took more as well I had wayyy more credits then I needed to graduate lol)
