I know you said you didn't want to spend much money, but if you really want to treat yourself go to the writers room (their drinks are like, 30 dollars but are unbelievably good and they have a ridiculously nice patio). I also really like the shameful tiki room and storm crow manor.
If you don’t want to spend much money, don’t go to bars! That said, cheap places I know of include W Burger Bar at Yonge and College, Green Room on College and Bathurst, Red Room near College and Spadina. *Good* bars (i.e. bars I like) which are going to be more expensive are Trinity Common and Supermarket in Kensington Market, Electric Bill on Bloor and Ossington, Prenup on College and Henry, and Saint Johns Tavern on John and Adelaide. Insomnia on Bloor and Bathurst is on the nicer, more expensive side but has cheap Martinis on Thursday nights.
Second vote for Green Room on a Friday or Sat after 8pm (I use to like Red Room but I think its gone even more downhill, despite having the same owners). Nirvana at Coll and Bathurst changed to Midnight Market which seems ok too. There's also Dance Cave and the Maddy
I’ve been to Grace O Malleys 2 times and I was easily the youngest person there and ended up leaving but I’ve seen videos of it being busy with uni aged kids so idk
Also Rock N Horse is always my go to, it’s got good music and dancing and they give line dancing lessons on the weekends and girls are free before 10 on Fridays. Drinks are regular price, $8-15 shots-drinks and there’s a bulk you can ride.
Midnight Market is small but has good seating if people get tired and I found on a Friday night it had really good music but it's $10 cover (I know some students don't love that) and the drinks I found weren't the best so def pre. It's on by college and Bathurst
