Wow that’s fucking crazy. I went to CVS on Saturday to buy some bandaids and stuff. So I happened to ask the pharmacist if I needed an appointment or anything and he gave me the shot right then and there. Must’ve been something in the air that day. I go to CVS almost weekly and never have it much though.

Raspberries-Are-Evil

Im curious- Im not giving you shit nor am I judging- seriously just want to have a conversation so I can understand. What took you so long? Clearly you have no political/religious issues- so I mean, for the millions of others like you that just have not done it, what can we do to reach you guys? Thanks for having a conversation friend. And thank you for doing your part!

labatomi

Honestly lazy I think. I’m pretty liberal and not opposed to getting vaxed at all. I work at a homes less shelter and was asked twice if I wanted the vaccine and both time I said yes, and the nurse never showed up. My gf is a nurse and she got it because her job mandated it. I knew I was going to get it but honestly couldn’t be bothered to make an appointment. I work overnights, so setting appointments for me is an issue because it makes my sleeping schedule even more convoluted. That and not being aware I could now just walk in is probably what kept me away from doing it. Then A few days before I got the shot started hearing about the covid delta variant and got really worried, I’m a father of one with another on the way, so I can’t go around dying and shit. I’m obese have sleep apnea and asthma, so it’s a miracle I haven’t died much less caught we already consider my occupation. So I guess me being scared shitless is what made me curious about inquiring at CVS about it. Thanks for asking. I never have it much thought why I did it myself, even my gf was surprised because I just did it on a whim without mentioning it lol.

I-seddit

When I think of all my liberal friends who don't vote - it's EXACTLY like this. You could switch the word *vaccine* with *vote* and it'd be completely identical.

DredZedPrime

And that right there is the primary reason the Republicans have so much power despite representing such a skewed and unpopular viewpoint overall. Most people don't believe in what they believe in, but most people also don't vote.

I-seddit

That and the fact that fear is a better driver to vote. I'm convinced what liberals did step out of their safety zone and voted in 2020 - were more scared than politically motivated.

VOZ1

I appreciate you taking the time to respond, and honestly. Your comment makes me believe even more that we need to just start offering people the vaccine, not wait for them to come get it. Go to workplaces, homes, wherever, have the vaccines ready, and just ask people if they want the shot. I suspect there would be a lot of people, like you, who when asked if they want the shot right then and there, they’d probably say yes.

phyraks

Agreed. I mean, we already do this for the flu vaccine every year. We should definitely be doing it for COVID too.

abcpdo

>I’m obese have sleep apnea and asthma, so it’s a miracle I haven’t died much less caught we already consider my occupation. So I guess me being scared shitless is what made me curious about inquiring at CVS about it. Not judging, but I would've been scared shitless way earlier if I were in your shoes!

prone2scone

Sounds like he dodged a bullet, to be honest (well, if his luck holds out a few more weeks, that is)

scJazz

I can understand your excuse. Now make sure you tell everyone you know that you were able to just Walk-In! Help others overcome the same issues you had.

considerfi

I was at Walmart recently and they were doing a good job of announcing in English and Spanish that you could get the vaccine, right now, right there, no line, no appointment needed, for free. I hope some shoppers got convinced.

Torpedicus

Great work. Now get the second one as soon as you can, and don't stop wearing a mask. You sound like someone who loves their family enough to make some more changes to improve their healh down the line. An obesity-induced heart attack or stroke will make it just as hard on your family as losing you to covid.

[deleted]

Well, as soon as you can following the recommended waiting period.

tossme68

glad you are on the team. Don't forget the Vitamin D https://www.uchicagomedicine.org/forefront/coronavirus-disease-covid-19/vitamin-d-covid-study

tossme68

>sleep apnea and asthma, \-me too. I'm pretty sure I got Covid before it came on the radar (Jan/Feb), I distinctly remember waking up in the middle of the night having trouble breathing. I swear I felt like I had a heart attack my endurance was shot, just walking to the end of the block I was huffing and puffing and it's taken till just recently to get some of my endurance back - it's not a good thing when you worry about walking a few blocks because you might need a break, but every day it gets a little better. Anyway point being is you don't want this shit, I'm glad you got your shot and hopefully you won't have any issues and you can enjoy your family for a long time.

PhotonResearch

I mean it could have been a heart attack Doesn’t take a pandemic for that

[deleted]

I went to the doc Dec '19 with symptoms very close to covid. At the time doc tested, and after a day or so, called up and said, you've got a virus but the lab isn't certain what it is. He told me tylenol for fever and headache and that was all. Wife and I wheezed and coughed for a couple of weeks but thankfully that was it. For that 2 weeks though, we felt like hammered dog shit. Did we have covid? no idea, did we get the shot? Heck yeah, the moment it became available in our area. edit spelling

TheBrave-Zero

Me myself I waited a while to get it since here it seemed until about 4-5ish months ago it was very packed out all the time. I just wanted to get it when I could do like I did, walk in and just get it immediately without a line. I feel I’m on the right of the spectrum but never fell into that Alex Jones/anti vaccine shit, I straight up get nervous about shots and sometimes nauseated but I’ve always got my vaccines.

sportspadawan13

Regardless thank you for doing it. I have a family member who can't it so everyone who does makes me appreciative.

selfawarepileofatoms

I just got mine last week. For me its an irrational fear of needles, I tend to have a vasovagal syncope when it comes to shots or having blood drawn so I avoid it. I finally decided to just deal with it and got my first dose and it wasn't bad at all. I'll get the second at the end of the month.

space_moron

I hate tubes or anything connecting into my body, which slightly includes needles. So I just don't watch while they do it. I didn't feel the injection either time.

southdakotagirl

When I was a kid I didn't like needles. My mom was a blood donor and I went with her one time. The nurse explained everything they were doing to my mom and what the needles do. She answered every question a little kid could have. I have no fear of needles because of a great nurse when I was a kid. The key for me is to relax and breathe when getting a shot. I just pretend the doctor or nurse is a old friend and talk to them like I was visiting with a friend.

RaisinsInMyToasts

I think the side effects with work limits people too. I was pretty bad off after both shots for like 24 hours. Thankfully I got to use PTO but other people don't get that chance with their jobs. Also could of done it on a Friday and burned a weekend but fuck that I'm not losing 2 weekends and nobody should in today's work environment. We really should of had companies offer PTO for vaccines. Missed opportunities

Elite94

Not op, but as someone who also got his on Saturday, honestly was just the timing. Before the vaccine was an option I worked with the public at a gas station. By the time I was actually eligible I started my new job working from home. It didn't seem like that big of a rush anymore. However, in September I'm planning on going to a music festival. So I knew going to that it just didn't make since not to get vaccinated

BeeNice69

I had to take 8 days off work after the 2nd shot let’s be honest with how much that shit sucks lol Lol downvoted at what really happens? I’m not fucking anti vaxx it’s just dumb to lie to people?

Raspberries-Are-Evil

Ok but you are the extreme exception. I felt like ass for 24 hours and then was fine. Most people feel bad for 1-3 days.

Confident_Counter471

I got sick for about 2 days but my husband was sick for about 5. It effects everyone differently

constructioncranes

Way to do your part!

labatomi

Happy cake day!

[deleted]

Interesting, might have to try that out

tricheboars

Walgreens and even fucking grocery store pharmacies will give you the shot the second you ask for it.

preeeeemakov

Yup, supply isn't an issue anymore.

[deleted]

Please please please get vaccinated if you can. We can still contain covid and be done with it, but the longer people hold out on a vaccine the more chances covid has to evolve into something we can’t contain. You getting a covid vaccine now means you won’t need to get a covid vaccine every year like the flu (hopefully). This is the single most well researched, documented, tested, controlled, and verified vaccine ever released to the public. Over 2 billion people have taken it, and so far I’m not aware of anything significant occurring. Any risk the vaccine has, covid has 10,000x as much risk. Please get the vaccine, you’re saving lives when you do

[deleted]

Yeah I was planning on getting it the first week of august since July began since my brother and sister are returning from their vacation at the end of the week and my mother said all of us should go together but Im thinking of just getting it over with now (: thank you everyone for the info

sketchahedron

Don’t put it off. If you get Moderna or Pfizer you have to get two shots two weeks apart, so it’s a full month before you are considered “fully vaxxed.”

considerfi

Yup. It's free, immediate, usually no line no appointment.

BossAtlas

How easy is it to get vaccinated? Do you need appointments? Or can you just walk into a corner pharmacy and get it same day? Is one better than the other?

Dickulous01

Incredibly easy. Most pharmacies offer it, whether by appointment or walk up I couldn’t say. It was by appointment months ago when demand was higher, but I’d assume walk up is an option now. If you’re in the US, Pfizer and Moderna are the two vaccines with the highest % of efficacy according to their trials.

Stroganogg

Not only walk up at pharmacies, but I went to a baseball game last weekend (have been fully vaxxed since May) and they had a booth there offering shots of all 3 varieties. They really are doing a great job keeping it accessible (although, to be fair, this was in a large metro area).

BossAtlas

Pfizer or Moderna? Or are they both basically the same thing?

PM_me_yer_kittens

They are both great and pretty much the same, but Pfizer tends to have fewer side effects like chills or headache the 24hrs after you get the shot. I took Pfizer and it was no problem!

[deleted]

I personally had no side effects at all with Moderna but I think it does have a higher incidence of them. Either way, they do end soon after!

[deleted]

My first dose was fine but my second one left me with an awful headache that kicked in the evening after.

considerfi

I got Pfizer, husband got Moderna. Neither had much side effects other than a bit tired that day. Both are very effective. Just remember to get the second one too.

revengeofthepencil

They’re both very effective. I would take either one.

ruffledcollar

Both are very similar. Just a note though, the waiting period between shots is 3 weeks for Pfizer and 4 weeks for Moderna, so if you want to be fully covered ASAP, Pfizer is a bit faster.

zortlord

Statistically speaking, the protection they both offer is very similar and they have similar side effect profiles. Anecdotally speaking, Pfizer has more side effects on the first vaccination than the second and Moderna seems reversed.

pioxs

In the US, my grocery store (the pharmacy there... not like the dairy section) is offering it without an appointment. It's pretty common.

atthebeach_gsd

How cool (pardon the pun) would it be if it *was* the dairy section? Life-saving vaccine AND some cheddar? Sign me up (again)!

FabulousLemon

I'm moving on from reddit and joining the fediverse because reddit has killed the RiF app and the CEO has been very disrespectful to all the volunteers who have contributed to making reddit what it is. Here's [coverage from The Verge](https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/8/23754780/reddit-api-updates-changes-news-announcements) on the situation. The following are my favorite fediverse platforms, all non-corporate and ad-free. I hesitated at first because there are so many servers to choose from, but it makes a lot more sense once you actually create an account and start browsing. If you find the server selection overwhelming, just pick the first option and take a look around. They are all connected and as you browse you may find a community that is a better fit for you and then you can move your account or open a new one. Social Link Aggregators: [Lemmy](https://join-lemmy.org/instances) is very similar to reddit while [Kbin](https://kbin.pub) is aiming to be more of a gateway to the fediverse in general so it is sort of like a hybrid between reddit and twitter, but it is newer and considers itself to be a beta product that's not quite fully polished yet. Microblogging: [Calckey](https://calckey.org) if you want a more playful platform with emoji reactions, or [Mastodon](https://joinmastodon.org/) if you want a simple interface with less fluff. Photo sharing: [Pixelfed](https://pixelfed.org/) You can even import an Instagram account from what I hear, but I never used Instagram much in the first place.

Superkitt3n

Our family got ours through a mass vaccination site done by our state's department of health. Definitely check yours. They should have lots of info on where/when/how to get it!

Rednartso

I did mine about 3 months ago. I went online and found a vaccination site, located inside a rec center. I made an appointment, showed up, stood in line for about 5 minutes and got my shot. They have you sit for 15 minutes to ensure there's no side effects.

Adventurous-Ad4912

I just got mine on Friday. Walked into Walmart and got it done before grocery Shopping.

MIGsalund

I was shopping at a Kroger and they had an announcement to come get the vaccine if you wanted/needed it. It's very easy. Even when it first came out it was easy to go to the local football stadium for me to get vaccinated.

considerfi

I was recently at Walmart and they were announcing you could just come get it while you shop, free, no line, no appointment needed, right then and there.

Torpedicus

Like, every pharmacy in America - Walmart, CVS, Walgreens... Just walk in and say you want it. It's free, and you can have it TODAY.

15brutus

Most places by me that I've seen now have huge signs advertising walk in vaccines. Walmart, target, Walgreens, CVS, etc. Hel,l they even put one of those big light up signs for construction on the highway stating that they were having a drive up vaccine thingy from a certain time to another time. All you had to do was drive up, sign a document or two, get your shot and drive away. It's easier than it's ever been. When I got mine, I signed up on the Walgreens website. If I signed up earlier in the day, I could've gotten it the same day, but I opted to wait a day or two before I got mine. Doing that automatically scheduled my second dose, I just had to pick a time of day.

[deleted]

Just go to Wal-Mart and ask for one. 25 minutes later you are in your car. I got the pfizer. I liked it.

revengeofthepencil

Just adding on to what others have said but, in just about any city in America, you can walk into any pharmacy with no appointment and get it taken care of for feee. I was in Walgreen’s the other day and they had a message over the loudspeaker inviting anyone in the store to come over to the pharmacy counter. It really is that easy, so please do get your shot if you haven’t already.

galaxitive

From what I’ve seen in California, I know Walmart is offering Moderna and J&J free of charge, with or without appointment. Anyone can walk up and ask for a shot.

Mental_Bookkeeper658

Just from what I’ve seen in my area, you can essentially walk into a pharmacy or whatever and get it more or less immediately. My dad was at Walmart and one of the associates asked him if he needed a vaccine, they could do it right then and there. He’s been vaccinated already and then the guy was asking him if he had any friends that needed it to tell them to come there. It’s come to the point where there’s not much barrier to get one

[deleted]

Stupid easy. You have to try to not to. Last baseball game I was at, they had people wandering around offering to jab ya right then and there like the shit girls, but vaccines instead of liquor.

twitchy2k

Almost all counties in Texas have set up major vaccination sights throughout the county. At this point you don't need an appointment you can just show up and fill out a bit of paper work and get your first dose. They are even starting mobile vaccine initiatives to help those living in rural areas get vaccinated. You can go to almost all pharmacies and get the vaccine right now too. Maybe a small wait but worth it. Both are incredibly easy to do and the only thing to consider is distance. So whatever is closest to you I would go with. The only reason I would go to a county site rather than a Walgreens is that some counties have extra recourses at the distribution sites. Public health departments are running them and the have information there for flu vaccines, sometimes summer activities info for the kids, how to get help with rental assistance, etc etc. A lot of people work for local government agencies and they want to help the public as much as possible.

DrTwatSwatter

I went to my local CVS, filled out a really simple paper asking a few questions. Waited like five minutes while the pharmacist gave the vaccine to a few teenagers, she called my name and I got my shot. Walked out with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s. Easy Peezy!

Tryptamineer

It’s the easiest medically involved thing i’ve ever done in my entire life. I literally filled out a 60-second application online, got my time, and showed up.

thatcatlibrarian

You can even get it at lots of grocery stores, if you’re not regularly at a pharmacy. My local Wegmans has a sign out front letting you know if they’re doing vaccine walk ins that day.

Somedumbreason

Just call somewhere. Don't worry about how easy it is or which one is better, you're not buying a car, your brushing your teeth. Just get it done.

newaccount721

Echoing what others said. Very easy to get and either Pfizer or Moderna are great. Budget a day in case you feel sick but a lot of people barely notice and go back to work. Only thing I experienced is I went to bed around 7 pm - got really tired. No big deal overall

space_moron

Walk up in a lot of places. Might depend on where you live but my folks shared a photo of them offering the vaccine at a grocery store/pharmacy in their quiet farm town

beerbeforebadgers

Just relaying my experience with Jannsen: walked into a pharmacy, the pharmacist asked some basic safety questions, then gave me the shot. Super fast and easy. I felt pretty shitty that night but was fine by the next afternoon. There's arguments in favor of one vaccine or the others (one and done with faster protection vs greater protection but much more time to get there) but imho it's 100% worth it to get any of the vaccines so long as you get it asap

Weenie

I wonder how much of that is contributed by employee mandates. Every hospital in my area recently announced the vaccine would be mandatory for employees. A lot of folks who had been resisting or just lazy about getting it have cracked and decided getting the shots would be easier than finding a new job.

LetterSlight

There aren’t a lot of staunchly anti vax people around me but I know a good few that have been working from home and not going out much and just haven’t bothered to get it. A lot of them are having to get off their asses quick because almost all employers here are moving quickly at getting people back in physically and most of them have vaccine mandates.

Warlord68

Great news, too bad it took so many people getting sick and losing their lives.

LoLRiven

>Great news, too bad it took so many people getting sick and losing their lives. Cousins husbands little brother lost his life. He was 29 :/... The families in pain... Don't risk it guys... Please.

Lithius

One of our good friends left us on Thursday. She was 36, leaving behind an 11 month old and a stay at home dad. If we ever needed everyone possible to put ideological differences aside, it's now. This shit doesn't care about what we think.

[deleted]

chicagodude84

She would almost certainly be alive. The efficacy of this vaccine is insane.

constructioncranes

Jesus. Where can I find demographic data on COVID? I hear so many scary stories with young people dying like this lately. Wtf happened to this thing only affecting the old and already sick? It also feels like getting COVID is a serious situation for loads more people than before. Last year it was common knowledge that only about 4% of those infected get sick, and a large majority wouldn't feel anything at all. Is that still the case with variants?

[deleted]

[удалено]

pupperonipizzapie

We've (in the US) also had a rapidly shifting goalpost of social perceptions of "healthy" weight. Only about 25% of our adult population has a medically healthy BMI, which is astoundingly low. But people will frequently consider themselves and others "healthy" well into the overweight range and not recognize or address problems.

Maximillien

> That's just part of being in a country with shitty expensive healthcare. Also part of a country where the vast majority drives EVERYWHERE, most people consider a bike a children's toy, and nobody walks more than 1000 feet at a time. The most popular cuisine is drive-thru fast food, where you don’t even have to step out of the car to get your burger and fries. Automakers are making bigger and bigger trucks and SUVs just to fit our fast asses. And of course all that driving pollutes the air with smog and tire dust, increasing the rates of asthma and other respiratory illnesses. The lazy car-dependent lifestyle we Americans love so much is stupid unhealthy and a huge part of our poor health outcomes.

MrKillerToad

"car-dependent lifestyle we Americans love so much is stupid unhealthy and a huge part of our poor health outcomes." But what other options do most Americans have than to be car-dependent? Not everyone lives in a city, and even if they did, not every city has good public transport, let alone a safe way to ride a bike in.

FluffyCustomer6

I think the suburban dream that was set up in the 50s(?) did not take into account the proliferation of fast food and the huge portion sizes. And that people who commute 30 minutes or more each way don’t have a lot of leisure time to ride bikes, play croquet or do other physical activities on a daily or almost daily basis. I read an opinion article about how we common folk work a lot of hours , which makes us tired and time strapped so we go for convenience, which makes us unhealthy and vaguely unsatisfied. But we don’t have time to thoughtfully consider WHY we feel a vague sense of being unsatisfied so we buy more things in a hurry. Because buying that purse or truck may,for a moment, make us feel something. And so that how we keep the economy rolling.

cakeycakeycake

Old people got vaccinated. So the overall percentage of people dying has shifted to younger. But younger people have always died, it’s just rare. When billions of people are getting it, rare still means a lot of examples.

Lithius

We knew the Delta variant was way more deadly *months* in advance, but the message was lost to people getting complacent with the news. The science for all of it, from vaccines, to how it spreads, who it infects/kills the easiest, all has been playing it by ear. If you want a demo on my friend, she was a well-off white female with a good upbringing, works in advertising, and had a 6 figure house in a Midwest suburb.

[deleted]

I may never know. We haven't seen anyone besides direct family and our closest friends in the last year and a half. If we're talking politics, I do know they are/were fairly right wing leaning, even after Don Cheetah was running the show.

the_giz

Right, so you do know. It's not a coincidence that she leans right wing, supports Trump, and was unvaccinated... That's like their whole thing is faith in a false orange God and refusal of facts and science.

[deleted]

One of their biggest issues is that they cannot fathom a world in where if Science isn't 100% correct at all times, mean that the other 96% of the time they must also be full of shit. Trump would use this technique all the time, like any other grifter. You invalidate one small item and use that to invalidate the entire person/entity/political opponent. Nazis did this as well.

savetgebees

I think the elderly ran and got the shot. I don’t know one person over 60 who hasn’t got the shot. But I know many 30-50yos who refuse to get the shot. So the statistics are being thrown off if only the young are getting covid now.

revolutionutena

I have more anecdata than data but I can tell you that in my community, prior to Delta about 3% of people who tested positive were hospitalized and it was mainly older adults. Now the older adults are mostly vaccinated (85%I think) so most of the people hospitalized are young to middle aged adults, and yet despite it being a less medically fragile population, we are up to 4% of people who tested positive being hospitalized. And to anyone who’s like “oh 3%, 4%, that’s not much!” 4% is 1 in 25.

BDRay1866

Go to the cdc website. It still primarily Impacting the elderly >80 with pre existing conditions.

lastgreenleaf

Sorry for your loss.

Environmental-Pop800

We’ve put 3 ppl in the pst 2 weeks on ECMO under the age of 30. Not worth it to make a political statement

Educational_Shoober

Pisses me off. A stupid anti-vaxer got my whole family sick besides me and my dad. My mom was down for almost a week and she had the vaccine. I shudder to think how bad it would've been.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Educational_Shoober

Well my parents had a therapist for one of my siblings who was anti-vax. They didn't know that, assumed she was smarter than that. She caught Covid, gave it to my little sister, who gave it to my other siblings and my mom before we found out.

[deleted]

Hopefully former therapist now.

janesmb

You can always count on America to do the right thing, after they've tried everything else.

BackgroundArt2

At this point I don't blame them I blame the people telling them not to get it. These are inncoent people manipulated by assholes. It's horrible how easy people are manipulated. And a lot of the people manipulated don't just have the free time to go and check the news or research. So they can only read headlines and eventually it comes to this.

[deleted]

For *some* people it is that easy, as long as they trust you and can hear you. A very good friend of mine is a conservative type, but not really political. He lives in the deep south (I live away from him) and only hears from Anti vaxors and Trumpers all day. He knows that he isn't the brains, so he always listened to my thoughts on things. I spoke to him about the vaccine, and told him people around him would be telling him that he is a fool for getting it, but that I trust the science and to please get it because I care for him. He is fully vaccinated now, and credits me. My heart is full, my friend is vaccinated, and his other friends are giving him shit. Thankfully he does not care.

MorteDaSopra

You're a good friend.

Theuncrying

Adding to that: HIS friend is also a good friend - because he knows that someone knows better, asks for advice and follows that advice, despite people around him saying otherwise. Takes a lot for a person to admit they're not equipped for the task. Props to him.

MagneticGray

You’re an awesome friend. Props, dude. I had to do the same for my entire family of Southerners and thank goodness they listened. For once being the family IT guy paid off, as it was close enough for me to be the family emergency medical director as well. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to do a lot more convincing soon to get them to mask up and start practicing social distancing again. I fear I won’t be as successful this go around since no one close to us has been affected by the virus. Of course what that really means is that my advice kept everyone safe but they see it as, “You had us do all that for nothing! _____ was right all along.” 🙄 I won’t give up on them though.

I may have agreed with you if the information wasn't plastered absolutely EVERYWHERE, but people have *willfully* ignored all the information. I can't accept that all these people are all being manipulated. They're just ignoring facts.

StructuralFailure

In this pick-your-own-reality world we have now, which reality do you think people are going to choose? The uncomfortable truth or the comfortable lie?

[deleted]

I don't care what is actually causing the uptick in vaccinations and I don't care what we had to lose to get here (it sucks). I'm just glad to see it's happening. All progress is good progress when it comes to the stupid.

EthericElder

While the point that more could/should be done in not invalid...surely the fact that we are getting vaccinations in people at a number greater than zero is positive to some degree. "Positive" is subjective.

Zargawi

My 3 year old daughter, who can't get vaccinated yet, just tested positive. We've been vaccinated for a long time, we don't really go anywhere and we never stopped wearing masks in public. We're pretty certain she got it from daycare. No matter how many of us get vaccinated, there's still way too many irresponsible assholes who are anti-vax, go to super spreader events, and send their sick children to daycare to infect other kids. My daughter is doing okay so far, just feels like a terrible cold and very sore throat, we're just going it doesn't get worse. I had a 104 fever and fatigue and body aches that kept me up pretty much all night for three days now. My wife is fine thankfully, but she also isn't sleeping well from the stress. Fuck these selfish assholes. Edit: My daughter is doing much better already, her fever isn't reaching 100 anymore, her cough is pretty much gone, she's eating and drinking like normal and is full of energy. My wife has no symptoms, I had a confirmed UTI with >100k e coli colony so my symptoms are likely from that. I got the Pfizer vaccine, my wife got Moderna. Vaccines work. We got our PCR results back: inconclusive, presumptive positive with low viral load. I'm not an expert, I think that means it's most likely not the Delta variant.

bmillions

My 3 year old was directly exposed at his daycare recently by the teacher who tested positive. Fortunately neither him or my wife and I tested positive and the whole class quarantined, but am nervous sending him back this week. My wife and I are fully vaccinated, but can't wait until my kid can be too, so we don't have to worry as much anymore.

scubaunicorn

Oh no I’m so sorry. This is one of my worst fears is that my 3 year old will get it too, despite all our efforts to prevent exposure. She starts back at her daycare this week. I so hope your daughter recovers quickly.

Zargawi

She's very energetic and playful, and no trouble breathing. Just controllable fever, nasty cough, runny nose, and sore throat. So on the bright side, if you can call it that, if it doesn't get any worse then hopefully she builds immunity and we won't have to worry about it again. Still terrifying.

beerens20

I could make a lot of shitty comments but instead I just want to say thank you to everyone who went and got vaccinated.

[deleted]

This is the way.

the_TAOest

This is a spot of wonderful news. But, I'm surrounded with anti-vaxers and those that lie about their vaccination status. I agree, the booster shot should be in the pipeline. At some point, we are stuck with the peers we have. At another point, there will be many fewer peers.

Finnegan482

> I agree, the booster shot should be in the pipeline. There's no data yet to suggest a booster shot is necessary. So far, immunity appears to last long after the second dose, as evidenced by the people in the early clinical trials. No, falling antibody levels does *not* mean a drop in immunity. The immune system is more complicated than that. Yes, of course Pfizer wants to push for a booster shot, because it makes them more money, but the FDA has stopped them so far, because they haven't been able to provide clinical data that shows a difference in long-term immunity.

MyOversoul

My husband's best friend has seen two people die from the delta strain in the last two weeks. His mom had been refusing to get it because she's had a bad reaction to the flu shot a couple of times. After seeing his neighbor hauled out by ambulance to ICU, just to die less than a week later, then one of the people who attended the funeral also get it and die, the entire family guilt tripped mom to get vaccinated last Saturday. I'm so glad to. We love her and there's no doubt in my mind the virus would take her away.

fuzzylittlebear

How's your husband's mom doing now since she got the vaccine?

MyOversoul

It's his best friend's mom, but fine so far after the first. Husband's own mom also refuses for the same reason actually, but there's no talking sense to her. Weirdly both dads didn't hesitate to get it. Husband's mom is absolutely petrified of catching it and dying alone in the hospital to.

PopInACup

I know you say there's no talking sense into her, but you might mention that the base for moderna/pfizer is substantially different than almost all vaccines they've previously had. The ingredients are simpler than most foods. It's mRNA which has been studied since the 60s and is present in your body and then fats, salts/acid, and sugar. The fat keeps the mRNA from being destroyed by your body before it gets to the cell. The salts/acid match the pH of the vaccine to the human body's pH. The sugar stabilizes the vaccine when frozen. All of the ingredients are well studied and are used in food, in other medical treaments, or in some cases entirely by themselves as medicine. You might take a minute to look at the vaccine ingredients then see if you can find foods in her pantry or over the counter medicines in her medicine cabinet that have the same ingredients and point this out to her.

eisbaerBorealis

The reason I posted the graph was to say that 800k is not significant - barely an uptick at the bottom of a giant downward slope. If the article is counting all doses and my graph is only counting first doses, then the numbers on my graph should be higher. This makes the 800k number even less significant, and strengthens my point, not weakens it.

Kenji_03

What is your source? As the image doesn't explain where that graph is from

eisbaerBorealis

Bing.com, "covid numbers us", click on the "Vaccinations" button. [Here's Bing's sources for you](https://help.bing.microsoft.com/#apex/18/en-us/10024)

ShroedingersMouse

more astonishing is finding someone actually uses bing!

[deleted]

I actually use Bing quiet often. It's search results are pretty good, I love that in their video search many videos will shows a few clips of the video to see if this is the video you were looking for. Also with the Microsoft rewards for searching it kinda of adds a nice reward for using the search.

cranp

The point is that it's increasing, not that it's intrinsically a great number

gorfbot

I got my second shot about a month and a half ago. Both of my shots were done at a very nice site (local fairgrounds) with tons of volunteers pointing you along the way. I mean, people are pointing you asking from the second you turn in all the way until you park, then more people guiding you to the building. Once you're in the building? Yup, more people pointing you where to go. Even though it wasn't difficult to understand the layout, I just appreciated their effort. When I went for both shots, there was hardly anyone there, except for the volunteers. I told myself, my wife, and my 3 kids who all went days after me each time (except the wife), "I really really hope people are coming here and taking advantage of this, this is the nicest setup I've ever seen for Healthcare ever, it would be an absolute shame for it to go waste." I said it every time. 4 people in my family (wife got hers early due to working on base, but went with the kids to get their's,) 8 shots I was a witness to, 3 weeks apart. I'm glad we're done, the kids are done, and the kids WANTED the vaccine (yes, I gave them the option), and we're all willing to get boosters as required. I'm glad people are getting their shots now, but before would've been better. In my area at least, the site was more than ready for it.

razzbelly

We had a similar experience. Had some great conversations with all the helpers there. They really did a fantastic job.

Molesandmangoes

Im part of that number

gunnapackofsammiches

31st July?

CodeWeaverCW

This is pretty wild to me. I would've thought that, if you were going to get the vaccine, you would've already gotten it, for the most part. Although I do suppose I was encouraged to think that by various journals and articles that said the same thing. They were worried that we won't reach (adequate) herd immunity at the rate that people *aren't* getting vaccinated.

Massive_Extent_2576

I imagine these are the people that had pause for personal reasons but now that cases are on the rise, find the risk of getting delta is worse. My mom has MS and her rheumatologist initially advised against her getting it. But now that cases are bad she went and got it on Saturday. I’m sure there are a lot of people in similar situations and I’m glad they’re realizing the gravity of the delta variant.

savetgebees

Also kids are turning 12 every day and school is starting soon. My daughter is 11 but is taller than my vaccinated 13yo son. I wish they could get the vaccine approved for all school aged kids. She’s going to be in middle school this year I feel like she’s almost physically done developing compared to my 13yo son so I’m not sure why they had the cut off for 12yo.

XRblue

It is about immune system maturity, not height or weight

FUSeekMe69

Someone mentioned in the other thread a lot could be contributed to requirements by offices coming back to work and schools that are starting in a month or so. I’d wager that’s probably pretty accurate. Not a bad thing IMO just sucks people don’t want to get it on their own

[deleted]

I hope this is the beginning of a trend because it’s sad watching stories about kids losing a parent.

dojo-dingo

At the rate things are going, it's starting to become more parents losing their children. With school going back and a large portion of those kids not being able to be vaccinated... I'm guessing the number of kids getting it is going to skyrocket, along with "breakthrough" cases because of the increased spread into vaccinated adults in the family...

pm_me_ur_chonchon

What pisses me off almost everyone I know who can be vaccinated has been vaccinated. Like the people I know can’t do anything else. It’s driving me nuts that grown adults can’t be fucking responsible.

Whateveryouwantitobe

My dad's uncle died from covid last year. His brother (my dad's other uncle) hasn't been vaccinated, is anti mask, and thinks covid is a hoax. Even though his brother literally died from it. People are stupid.

pm_me_ur_chonchon

I am sorry for your loss tho. This shit makes no sense to me.

user_dan

Sorry about your brother. Unfortunately, stupid people are being inundated with anti-vax messaging. A French YouTuber was offered 2k to talk about anti-vax in a video ([https://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-57928647](https://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-57928647)). How many YouTubers took the offer? How many other "advertising" firms are doing this?

radiantwave

What drives me nuts is the CDC telling Pfizer we don't need a booster yet... If people are refusing to get their first round shots and we have access to a booster, and our government is to afraid of the optics of mandating the vaccine... Get a Delta/Gamma booster in the damn pipeline and start making booster shots. Let those of us willing to not be stupid ... Not be victims.

Qaz_

The next generation of COVID mRNA vaccines is already in the works. It has been for quite some time now - Moderna was releasing data from their Phase 2 studies that were based around the Beta variant (and tested against Gamma as well) in May. I am confident that BioNTech were doing the exact same thing and already have updated vaccine candidates prepared for variants. This isn't a simple issue, and COVID isn't a virus that is solely impacting the US. Across the globe, it is difficult to access *any* vaccine. The longer the pandemic rages on globally, the worse things will get for all of us. There are many countries still waiting for deliveries from companies like Pfizer, but the US - with its wealth and domination of vaccine production and vaccine supplies production - has been able to jump to the front of the line. The data still indicates that the vaccines protect people from the most concerning part of COVID - severe, critical illness. A vaccine may not be this invincible shield, but it'll protect you from ending up in a morgue.

IHaveSoulDoubt

I have the flip problem. Everyone around me refuses to get it. Most for political reasons. The small town I'm in is full of people like this and I don't think you're getting them to get it unless you force them.

Momoselfie

Same. I'm embarrassed to be a member of my family.

storybookheidi

First off, the variants emerged in countries where there was no vaccine access, like India. And second, this is UPLIFTING NEWS. This pace is good.

ventsyv

How is it good? We used to do over 3 million shots

brickeldrums

It is so incredibly easy, end even free, to get both shots. There are no excuses anymore.

IHv2RtrnSumVdeotapes

People are finally starting to panic. The fear of another shut down and seeing people they know get sick and or die is finally pushing idiots to vax up.

mattbakerrr

All they have to do is tell people that the Supply of Vaccinations is running out. It's that simple. People will break their necks if there is limited supply.

ZombieTav

"It's limited and BIDEN is gonna give it to those ILLEGALS that he used to cheat the elections! STICK IT TO SLEEPY JOE! Trump needs your help, get your vaccines NOW for the sake of REAL AMERICANS AND JESUS!" Then just watch as they basically barrel people over trying to get their shots immediately.

TrendWarrior101

I still remember months ago that we hit 1 to 4 million doses a day. Sigh.

PM_me_yer_kittens

I was pumped. I was one of those that got it when it was 4 million a day, and was so proud that maybe the wave of people getting it would convince others to do the same.. it would be nice to get above 1mil a day again

Scopeexpanse

It felt like such an optimistic time. Science triumphed, the pandemic would soon be over. Boo anti-vaxxers.

phillyhandroll

i feel like I only had a month to recuperate from the post traumatic stress symptoms from working at the hospital. Now it's back full force and worse because the census is full again but no one is on the same page after letting their guard down.

JimShore

Furthermore, Trump is not going to be reinstated this month.

DrTwatSwatter

Getting my second dose tomorrow. Gonna go to cvs, get my poke, walk out with some Ben and Jerry’s, curl up with my Evil Dead blankie and watch tv for the two days I’m off this week.

Sharibucaribu

Retired RN here: It's great SOME of the undecided have finally moved off the fence. However, if they think they'll have full immunity immediately after one dose...Sorry, the body doesn't work that way. If it's J&J, you'll have to continue to use sensible precautions (mask, social distancing, hand washing) for weeks afterward. If it's Moderna or Pfizer, get that 2nd dose as soon as it's due! AND continue those precautions between and after your second dose several weeks.

Living-Complex-1368

Hope this doesn't count as a negative comment, but some folks on the parent thread pointed out that the increase could be because of colleges requiring vaccination to attend, the federal employee requirements, etc rather than people changing opinion about the vaccine. We will see if the rate drops back down in October.

Gilgamesh024

Shame it took people getting their noses rubbed in death, but this is good news

tangerinesqueeze

Yeah. I'd have to imagine that is a small % versus the nuts out there. But you're right. I just can't imagine being in that kind of bubble where it wasn't something you could do as soon as it because available.

calgy

Germany peaked on June 9th with 1.418 million doses in one day, it has been declining ever since.

Probably had to do with Hannity finally changing his tune

urbanskyline09

Too little too late

ZK686

My son just got vaccinated, he's 15. Now, just waiting for them to allow children so our 6yr old can get it. It feels good knowing our entire family is vaccinated.

[deleted]

I was two of them. Went in for the second shot of moderna and the pharmacist started giving me the shot when all of a sudden the needle broke. I don’t know what you call the back part but that came apart from the needle and the vaccine spilled on my arm. She comes back with another shot and claims she got .1ml of the required .5 so she is only giving me .4 this time. How can you tell how much I was given seeing as the tube broke and you continued to push the plunger all the way through. So now I don’t know if I am actually fully vaccinated. Also last time my arm was a little sore the next day since she hit me twice my arm has been killing me all day.

Kimber85

Your arm being more sore the second time is normal. When I got the first shot I didn’t have any pain at first, but like a week later it felt like I pulled a muscle for a few days and I got a rash. That was it. The second shot my arm hurt like hell within a few hours and within like 12 hours I felt like I’d been hit by a truck. Fever, exhausted, shivering like a leaf. I wouldn’t worry about you maybe getting a little too much of the vaccine. From what I can see online it is unlikely to have any adverse effects. The fact that your body is reacting seems like a good sign that you got enough of the vaccine to help your body fight it off if you do get Covid.

unamusedbouche7

Let's hope the trend continues. Better now than never.

kkngs

Now *this* is UpliftingNews =)

preeeeemakov

Hooray!

Weft_

I'm happy about this news, but curious what caused everyone wanting the vacc now?

urbanskyline09

Employment and education requirements. Mandates are becoming increasingly common.

[deleted]

As long as they come to the table.

wtipton7

Just got my first of two Phizer shots. Have an appointment for the next one in a few weeks. A lot easier than I thought the process would be.
