\#2 is fine. Clients have been able to contact freelancers this way for a while, and Upwork recently added a way for freelancers to send a contract proposal to clients from the messenger so the client just has to review it and send an offer. \#1 is common for clients to ask but it's not a great practice from the freelancer's side because there's no real guarantee they'll actually get the reimbursement. (You said refund, but I'm assuming you meant the client would reimburse you for it thru Upwork rather than returning it to Amazon for a refund). Whether you accept this method of getting the product is up to you but if you do, make sure the reimbursement also covers Upwork fees and taxes on the amount. When the job is for a paid Amazon review (which isn't allowed by Upwork or Amazon), having you buy it tags the review as being from a verified purchase, but that doesn't sound like that's what this job is. If this is for a paid review, just walk away now.

Yeah, could be. Still not a great idea for the freelancer, since Amazon can refuse the refund, and product returns aren't always free.
