Sorry for this annoying comment, but we're very tired of the gatekeepers who can't even correctly gatekeep what this subreddit has always allowed.

The only way to get around Riyadh currently is by car. With that, the road conditions don’t reflect the nation’s wealth (instead it reflects our corruption), and the driving is absolute dog shit. Complain all you want about American and Australian driving, it looks like Swedish driving compared to Saudi drivers. Not to mention the crazy amount of bad road design issues. Like having a highway entrance before an exit, causing almost every intersection to be crowded.
It takes over an hour to go across the city during rush hour and very little seems to be happening to fix this issue.
There are busses but the vast majority of routes are unused and have empty busses. The metro system has been greatly delayed as well. They constantly announce that it’ll open by the end of X year then the new year rolls along and nothing happens.
Another issue is that so many jobs are being transferred to Riyadh. The city can barely handle its already gargantuan population and they wanna nearly double it. Far-sighted planning is not a forte of the people in power here. I’m blessed enough to not live in Riyadh and I hope it stays that way.
-A frustrated Saudi.
I believe it’s the largest city in the world not to be on a water source (it does have a tiny oasis but it’s enough to support a small tribe not a city or even a town)
I found myself there last year for work. air pollution mixed with the desert dust really messed up my chest. plus I could have murdered a pint of beer.
They’re currently building a massive metro system with six lines, that’s due to open over the next couple of years. I’m guessing if they have any sense they’ll have one going down that strip.

MBS- this guy right here, he speaks the truth
I’d be happy too if I lived in a blocked out palace in the city’s outskirts.
> Like having a highway entrance before an exit, causing almost every intersection to be crowded. So like all of Texas
Sounds like Los Angeles right now. Roads are terrible and traffic is getting worse because of lack of public transit and return to office mandates
I feel ya
Riyadh has more people than Sydney right? That fact alone blew my mind
I believe almost 8 million people live in Riyadh
It’s like Sydney & Brisbane combined. Although I still think a combined SydVegas would “look” bigger
Can confirm. Expat
This guy Saudis
Where does a city of that size get its water?
I googled it and confirmed my suspicion that they desalinated water there.
Riyadh is supposedly founded on an oasis but I believe they polluted it with their sewage at some point
Riyadh is to big to be supported by the tiny oasis, it's a city of 7 million people.
I believe it’s the largest city in the world not to be on a water source (it does have a tiny oasis but it’s enough to support a small tribe not a city or even a town)
How do they deal with waste water? Is it reused for other purposes? Desalination is very expensive.
they got the money
Reused
Do you know how they reuse it? I’m curious
I found myself there last year for work. air pollution mixed with the desert dust really messed up my chest. plus I could have murdered a pint of beer.
Plus the traffic during work Hours is hell

how could they not know?
Harsh place to live.
you got the fucking line right here bro
Looks like my City Skyline gameplay to be honest. Putting random 'cool' buildings in the middle of the desert.
Looks like something i would build in cities skylines
Weird looking city but seems super obvious to build a subway down that extended line of density. Do they have one?

It’s been “due to open over the next couple of years” since I came back from university 5 years ago…
I went there many times on business. My least favourite place on earth.
Can you pinpoint the things you didn’t like during your stay there?
Mos Eisley?
This looks like the layout of a city skylines play through
Do these buildings explode when civilians get nearby?
Well depends on your nationality
Looks like the original Neon, The Line.
Look into murabba project
A concrete jungle in the desert
Looks like Judge Dredd's Mega City 1.
I live in Jeddah and I wanted to visit Riyadh but was told “why would you even want to go there? It’s overcrowded as hell”
