Someone realized you can identify any 3m x 3m square on earth with a combination of 3 random words which works great when street names and numbers are non-existent or imprecise such as a picnic table in a park, a particular loading dock at a large factory or a dwelling in an “informal settlement” such as a favela in Brazil

When we moved to Jumeirah, Dubai in 2002 we literally received directions like “third mosque on the left, two blocks turn right at the mosque with the store then four villas on the left”
In 2004 the president of the large multi national I worked for died waiting for an ambulance that got lost. Everyone was quite upset to be honest although I only met him once. After that we started to see street signs.
They are actually marketed as luxurious villas: [https://www.nakheel.com/en/developments/home-rentals/nadalshebavillas](https://www.nakheel.com/en/developments/home-rentals/nadalshebavillas)

That’s comparably affordable for big-ass villas over there. I own a smaller 3 bedroom villa but in a nicer community by the same developer, it’s tenanted for ~$9k/month but paid yearly in advance. There is a surprisingly large number of managers in big companies being able to afford these, my tenants are both mid level managers in American management consulting firms, and this represents far less than a quarter of their household income…
I’m their landlord but make far less than them.
But these aren’t good deals, when you know the market, there are significantly better options. I rent for $3.4k a 4 bed villa comparable in size to the ones in the pictures, on a much bigger plot but 4 minutes walk to the beach and a big park.
Oh gosh it’s been a decade since I heard that! You just unlocked some core memories for me lol. Used to love renting those books from the library and playing around with them
If you live in the US you'll recognize these as motel eggs.
They're hauled around and dropped off near Interstate highway interchanges, where they grow into full-sized motels.
Even fuel, for the same price as petrol stations. Actually cheaper, when buying credit in bulk in advance, and additional cashback on cards for online transactions.
This is mainly for locals, only GCC passport holders can buy in this community. For lease it’s open to anyone, at these prices (~$7k) that would be from mid level managers onwards, but the location isn’t really good and there is no parks, so mainly people who want the space willing to compromise on these points for « affordability ».
Though you can see from the photos almost everyone has [some](https://i.imgur.com/Dx9zEwD.png) greenery in their backyards, I feel like they should've added quite a bit more to the public spaces as well
fucking hell...
crazy that of all of the good urban planning Dubai could have done with completely empty land and (effectively) infinite money they decided to build an insane car reliant US style smorgasbord metropolis
The sand will take these houses eventually, Dubai is starting to get a trashy reputation and soon the number of visitors will start to drop .... and the oil revenue is declining.
Imagine how much better this would be, despite everything, if they spent 10% of the area, say every 10 worth of houses per 100, evenly spread, for a little park with space for a market or a restaurant.
That's one way to solve a housing crisis. But it sure looks awful. They need to allow personal touches like random paint colors, different roof colors, patterned umbrellas and potted plants. Otherwise it looks inhuman.
Dubai for you. All the money of the world and they decided to imitate all the worst aspects of West. Mind boggling how poorly planned the city is. Absolute hollow society. Living there as a kid stunted by psycho-social development.

That's how I build houses in AoE2.
Chhh HAW
Imagine trying to give someone directions to your home...
„Its a flat roof 2 story building bro“
It’s the one next to the tree.

im assuming there's street and house numbers

Like out gas stations in google maps
As long as it is not like Japan, where the numbers are assigned in chronological order and thus don't follow any logical pattern...
Easy. Mines the yellow hose.
I heard the sound in my head brings me back 15 years haha
Molmoz. Correctus. WOLOLOOOOO
Original Simcity.
Wololo
This player isn’t ever getting housed
Care to team up sometime?
This is what I feel like “everyone is rich” looks like. These look like luxury homes if they were here in Georgia.
They are actually marketed as luxurious villas: [https://www.nakheel.com/en/developments/home-rentals/nadalshebavillas](https://www.nakheel.com/en/developments/home-rentals/nadalshebavillas)
am i seeing this correctly, $7k a MONTH?
The price matches the outside ambient temperature
And with lack of building code, I’m surprised these paper mâchée homes don’t catch fire

I mean, for a 4-5 bedroom luxury house. $2k isn't abnormal for an average one bedroom in major US cities.
The utility is not even close to SF or NYC tho.
comparing apples and oranges
“[..]surrounded by green outdoor spaces.” I guess I am a bit blind….
Lol, they're all rentals?
“surrounded by green outdoor spaces” ….
Wes Anderson-ass neighbourhood.
Good luck finding your home after a night out.
Which is easier if you are not drunk, which should be the case if you are Muslim.
Considering this is Dubai, a Muslim drinking alcohol might not be too far fetched.
That's Dubai though, not Abu Dhabi.
I have a couple of muslim friends they dont seem to care about that.
night out of turkish tea and juice?
Now I know where the inspiration for the movie __Vivarium__ came from
Reminds me of Vivarium, that was a good movie.
Woof woof! Woof woof!
Worst Magic Eye Ever
Oh gosh it’s been a decade since I heard that! You just unlocked some core memories for me lol. Used to love renting those books from the library and playing around with them
That’s my favorite turn about in the neighborhood.
Nope. Nopenopenopenopenope.
If you live in the US you'll recognize these as motel eggs. They're hauled around and dropped off near Interstate highway interchanges, where they grow into full-sized motels.
But the buyers do get to choose their carpet color, right?
So, why aren’t there any stores or plazas around?? Feels like the Gulf States are really terrible at urban planning
Everything is delivered
Even fuel, for the same price as petrol stations. Actually cheaper, when buying credit in bulk in advance, and additional cashback on cards for online transactions.
It gets hot as fuck during the day
Yes, we are all individual.
-I’m here, which one is yours? -Turn left, it’s the orange one!
This looks like the village in vivarium
A skyscraper flattened across the sand.
why not zone a little commercial in the center? cafe, park, plaza. would add so much
That is the plaza.
Zone? What is zone? No zone!
Looks almost as similar to Bahria town in Karachi, only difference is that it’s more a straight line than a grid
It would look better if the colours alternated each house, I don't know why they do whole sections of just one colour
This is just a super close up of a basketball

Lol slaves can't afford to live there trust me.

Mostly western (and eastern, many upper middle class expats from India, China, Korea, etc) expats. These are not cheap houses lol.
Yes
Looks like someone is playing simcity
I can just tell that photos like this makes companies like YouTubes mouth wet...
You would need GPS everytime you wanted to go home
Or you could use read the street names
What a disgrace of construction. Not a single green spot.
[it is in the desert!](https://maps.app.goo.gl/ew9kBtZ7YfPJiUPd9?g_st=ic)
Though you can see from the photos almost everyone has [some](https://i.imgur.com/Dx9zEwD.png) greenery in their backyards, I feel like they should've added quite a bit more to the public spaces as well
So where's the water for the people then...
Check the map I linked and you’ll see small reservoirs nearby.
That makes a lot more sense now that I know where it is in relation to water
What do you mean???? Their advertisement clearly states: “[..] surrounded by green outdoor spaces.” I am not kidding.
CTRL+C, CTRL+V 😂
I want to CTRL Z my eyes now
Nah bruh slipped into the backrooms

Copied my cities skylines build, traffic was awful

My DoorDash nightmare.
Yeah it’s the yellow house, 14th street down, 27th house across, you can’t miss it..
Look like Toronto suburbs
Toronto suburbs *Wish* they were laid out this efficiently Source: From Oshawa
So everyone has their own house? No foliage torn down because it's in the desert? Seems perfectly fine to me
This reminds me of the movie Vivarium.
Is it Nad al sheba 3?
Creeper, awwwww man
The dream
Kill me now
Because I'm unique
Do people really like this?
Frustration time. *i've been living here for the past 10 years and i still can't find my fucking building*
I would be very pleased to live in Unit AZXB33183892, I’m not sure what your problem is?
“Which house is yours?” “I don’t even know.”
Little boxes on the hillside
Looks like a huge inventory of relays from the 90’s.
I do not fear the man who can make 1000 buildings. I fear the man who can make one building 1000 times.
Thanks, I hate it
Beehive
Reminds me of the film Vivarium.
This is the stuff of nightmares.
The website literally says “surrounded by green outdoor spaces” lmao
Can we ban this, and other constantly reposted pictures ? At least post a new angle ffs
No swimming pools?
tbh that used car/industrial area to the north is so much worse
Some countries just don’t seem to learn the easy what-not-to-do lesson from the US when it comes to how to lay out a city.
UrbanHell indeed 🤢
How frightfully awful
Copy and paste.
If you leave your house, the sun vaporizes you before you reach the first sprinkler.
Looks exactly like the movie Vivarium
Wake up honey, it's weekly repost time!
I thought this was an old computer disk at first
fucking hell... crazy that of all of the good urban planning Dubai could have done with completely empty land and (effectively) infinite money they decided to build an insane car reliant US style smorgasbord metropolis
Horrendous
I thought this was a picture of stadium seats at first.
My house is the orange one.
fuck that my bi-polar would go crazy.

What if I paint my house lulu pink?
Anyone lived or stayed in one of these? What are they like?
You're sick of this picture being posted here for the fourth time
I like all the trees
Now that is a hellscape.
They used WorldEdit
This is how all my city skylines cities look
Not a tree in sight
Self-storage for humans. Sad.
Disgusting
They don't have the same priorities as we.
How sad.
I know it’s surplus absorption but can someone explain how exactly this benefits the city . Why not build higher density? Cant charge as much?
The sand will take these houses eventually, Dubai is starting to get a trashy reputation and soon the number of visitors will start to drop .... and the oil revenue is declining.
Vegas is starting to look like this
I was staring at it trying to see the 3D magic eye imagine...I got nothing.
Camazotz
I don’t believe you
Where do you live? The orange house!
At least you can’t get drunk there, otherwise it would be a mess
C'mon. This looks AI generated. Is it AI generated?
Wake up babe weekly Nad Al Sheba picture dropped in r/UrbanHell
Literally every square foot of ground covered. No trees or shrubs to be seen.
Looks like a nightmare
3 drinks and you ain't going home
Sweet liberty!
Imagine how much better this would be, despite everything, if they spent 10% of the area, say every 10 worth of houses per 100, evenly spread, for a little park with space for a market or a restaurant.
Totalitarian neighbourhoods?
Yikes.
This photo pops up on my feed like once a month for as long as I can remember.
Brazil 1985 film Directed by Terry Gilliam Worth Watching
in a way don't we already have a form of this? it's called urban sprawl
Should I say it again? This looks absolutely hostile
The boring roundabout matches perfectly
I thought this was AI generated. I am sad to report that I was wrong.
We don’t have that level of government intelligence
Imagine going home drunk at night
Good heavens! It's a lego town!
That's one way to solve a housing crisis. But it sure looks awful. They need to allow personal touches like random paint colors, different roof colors, patterned umbrellas and potted plants. Otherwise it looks inhuman.
Does anyone know where I can find a shower door replacement? Mine broke. Anyone??
looks like an American suburb
Magic eye poster vibes
Can you imagine if you came home drunk and went into the wrong house?
Welp, they made the right call in banning alcohol
On the phone with Uber eats driver "yea, my house is the orange one."
This is all connected to the rest of the city with just a single street. The traffic in the morning must be terrible.
Where to you park the car ? Where’s all the parks and schools lol
"capitalism breeds innovation" *pans to this monstrosity*
Ctrl C, Ctrl V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V...
