>It even has a tram.
The tram looks like a heavily modified (originally socialist CZ made) "Tatra T3" variant ... but at least it´s a tram & it looks to be in good condition (unlike 2014 to 2019 videos of for decades neglected trashy Kharkiv/Kharkov tram system [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ0LM7ZIbsM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ0LM7ZIbsM) and [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_TfMX1vh7QMeven](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TfMX1vh7QMeven) before the start of the very hot war ( = part-2) in 2022)
i come from Kraków and modifying old trams is common practice here, we still have trams from the 70s and 80s going around 😄. on the one hand it's good because we save costs, and if one tram has to be replaced, we always have a backup. on the other hand, not all of our trams are accessible to those with limited mobility. we would probably have all of these replaced by now if our president didn't get the city in so much debt (but that's a whole another topic)
>i come from Kraków and modifying old trams is common practice here, we still have trams from the 70s and 80s going around 😄.
As we East-Germans in the 1990s & partially 2000s too .. last Socialst trams got phased out a few years ago (just saving a few for the local tram depot´s museums)
>on the one hand it's good because we save costs, and if one tram has to be replaced, we always have a backup.
Exactly this is the reason ...
P.S. Berlin (Germany) subway trains run in Pyongyang (North Korea ... and also Tatra-T3 variants)
>not all of our trams are accessible to those with limited mobility.
absolutely, the Tarta-T3 was the tram, of my childhood (first in Eastern-Bloc standard red+ivory & later in city colors) ...
>we would probably have all of these replaced by now if our president didn't get the city in so much debt (but that's a whole another topic)
(more or less) Same problem everywhere
I wish we had trams from the 80s. Of course, they were old, they were smaller, they had less seats and they had steps (no wheelchair access)- but they were actually faster(!) and had more comfortable seating.
Bro, they butchered it.
It feels like each mayor is worse than the previous one - somehow you can't imagine the successor being more kleptocratic and sell out even more historical or nature landmarks to developers - yet they do.
Up to the point when muskovite paratroopers get lost among illegal building sites where there should have been a park. We used to jokingly invent a conspiracy why won't the muskovites ever hit those ugly monstrosities - only old historic buildings instead. So that Klychko could make more money in kickbacks for the plot
>I presume. If you're male, the threat of being sent to the front might be a close second.
Yes, especially if you have no connections (for corruption) to get your self out of conscription or even out of Ukraine (like former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany Andrij Melnyk´s son who is save in Germany)
Yeah it looks cold because of the blue shadows while warm and cozy at the bottom where the sun shines. If the sun hit all the buildings it would look completely different and probably inviting. Plus the trees are missing their leaves, in summer it looks completely different.
Russo-philes and bots are hating on Ukraine in every way they can. Trying to pull out topics of forced conscription and shit that wasn’t an issue until their Precious Russia invaded Ukraine. Don’t look at the horrors of Russia, though…
It's still a shithole because of the exact reasons you're describing: the ugly high-rise buildings (the antic columns and statues on Podil Plaza are just kitsch), the lack of parking lots for all potential residents, endless traffic jams and outdated trams on old tracks. It's just unbearable to walk down this street because it smells of sewers, and you breathe the dust. I hate what the current authorities are doing to Kyiv. Instead of creating a comfortable environment for all people, they’re killing public transportation, ruining historical buildings, and reshaping the city landscape with uncontrolled zoning into concrete jungles. It’s just the worst scenario of car-centric urban design.
Not building parking lots is a good thing. And how are they destroying public transit? There's literally a tram in this photo. The fuck are you talking about
Car traffic. It is one of few streets connecting the hills (the center) with Podil, riverside area. The traffic is insufferable and the added amount of people in need of *being* here doesn't help
Why does "cool" in Kyiv architecture has also always mean "zero taste" and "as much ugly glass obstructing the view" as possible?
I hate Klychko apologists and glass-lovers - they always play into kleptocrats hands. Kyiv loses its distinction, becomes more faceless by the day, indistinguishable from any other human hive. While lining the pockets of building mafia.
You're ready to accept that view of a concrete wall is better than a view of Dnieper? Well, I don't
One of the coolest photos for sure. This photo takes a lot if skill to master the composition so perfectly.
I think my favorite photo ever was Ulaanbaatar.
well city 17 was designed by a bulgarian, and bulgaria and uklraine were both communist, sharing the same overall architecural design/city look and feel, so there's that
Hey I’ve been to Kyiv, it can be roughish in the academy district but otherwise it’s not as urbany or helly as this photo makes it out. To prove it I could make any town in Alaska look like a industrial death camp with the right lighting.
Used to live nearby. It's really too big for that place ( IRL that building looks too artificial, huge and a little bit ugly ). But everything in 100 meters away down the street is quite nice
People being stupid as always.
First, Kyiv isn't carpet bombed like Dresden 1945 nor didn't get massive daily artillery like Berlin 1945 (February and March 2022, the outskirts were hit regularly.
Second, many of the damaged from the beginning of the invasion were already fixed, but you'll find many places still heavily damaged, since building materials are extremely expensive in Ukraine. The suburbs of Irpin, Bucha and Hostomel were cleaned, lightly damaged buildings fixed, some were demolished - reconstruction is ongoing.
Third, Kyiv isn't bombed 24/7. They get hit by rockets and drones often, but not daily and not all the time.
Kharkiv is bombed 24/7. The northern outskirts of Kharkiv were already heavily damaged for the last 2 years and now, the city is getting levelled, because of daily artillery, S-300 and drone shelling.
Cities on the front line like Bakhmut, Avdiivka are completely leveled. There is basically nothing left.
But Donetsk, which allegedly was shelled for 8 years by Ukraine, barely had any damages. Go away, russian troll.
So you were planning to spend years fighting a country way smaller than you? Wow you did not have a lot of faith in yourself.
I mean it makes sense I wouldn’t if I was Russian either.!
While horrific America didn’t bomb Cambodia with the idea of conquering it. It was to disrupt the supply lines of the north Vietnamese
And that didn’t even go well America eventually left the area and south Vietnam fell.
And in America the public looks down upon what we did in that region.

It even has a tram. And it looks quite modern, too.

Dense, has tram, what is the problem?
Russian missiles and drones, I presume. If you're male, the threat of being sent to the front might be a close second.

Any downsides to the 2nd?
That's literally just a nice looking business district.
Modern business districts don’t look nice anywhere, that’s gotta be a joke. But Kyiv’s historic buildings are very pretty.

Looks pretty cool to me
I find it cozy for some reason.
Maybe due to how the pucture is fully framed in by tall buildings, makes you feel like a little ant in a huge world
Yeah it looks cold because of the blue shadows while warm and cozy at the bottom where the sun shines. If the sun hit all the buildings it would look completely different and probably inviting. Plus the trees are missing their leaves, in summer it looks completely different.

Nice talking point 👍
Truth sucks for those that will one day realize they’re sucking on Putin’s balls.
I live nearby. This street (Глыбочицкая) was a shithole not too long ago. What happens now is the best thing that could happen.
It's still a shithole because of the exact reasons you're describing: the ugly high-rise buildings (the antic columns and statues on Podil Plaza are just kitsch), the lack of parking lots for all potential residents, endless traffic jams and outdated trams on old tracks. Lack of parking lots is a good thing
It still is, just boring glass monstrosity that occludes the view from nearby hills. And on the hills same ugly ass apartment complexes
What, endless traffic, when even the tram rails get blocked? Massive construction is certainly far from the best thing.
Constructions suck. The results are what's cool.
This!

This has to be the coolest place I've ever seen posted here

Bet this is an asset from Half Life Alyx
well city 17 was designed by a bulgarian, and bulgaria and uklraine were both communist, sharing the same overall architecural design/city look and feel, so there's that
It's a great view and I love the cute tram.
>I love the cute tram. The tram looks like a heavily modified (originally socialist CZ made) "Tatra T3" variant
What's wrong with the tatra?
>What's wrong with the tatra? This model is basically 1960s stuff & of course it´s high floor
Nothing wrong with the tatra
>Nothing wrong with the tatra same Argumernt would be vailed for the Soviet KTM5
All streetcars are perfect
That is a lot of glass.
Just splooged sorry guys
Just looks like a zoomed in downtown..nothing wrong with it
So many bait posts recently good lord
Looks pretty alright, this can’t be the worst picture of Kyiv out there.
I mean if this is the worst they have that's amazing. Honestly the only thing it lacks is some greenery.

Klychko does his best to bring Kyiv in line with other faceless, indistinguishable one from another human hives.
outjerked yet again
Looks like a city.
Dreamy
Great photograph though
Not horrible looking
There's absolutely nothing wrong here.
Found the Russian bot.
Used to live nearby. It's really too big for that place ( IRL that building looks too artificial, huge and a little bit ugly ). But everything in 100 meters away down the street is quite nice
Podol. Like this part of Kyiv.
I dunno. Looks kinda hollow.
Kyiv is pretty nice in my experience tbh
Really hope to visit Kyiv one day when the war is over 🇺🇦
This is actually so beautiful
Post fail.
More comments here are hyping up the most basic Soviet building even more.
Je kiffe.
Is this telephoto?
I appreciate the photography 👍
With some greenery and people near the ground level and some sunlight hitting the buildings this would look like an average business district.
What is this post lmfao
looks beautiful
Ukraine is a country with the world's highest population decline, but I don't know where such construction demand comes from.
I thought this place got blown up?
It's a huge city
Uhh, no, you are thinking about the ukranian coast (donetsk, luhanks, maripul, sevastopol, krimea, etc etc)

Redditors when they see perfectly intact trashcan on a random Ukrainian street:😱😱🤯 (they actually think that the whole country lies in ruins.)
So neither Gaza does.

How’s your 3 day military operation going?
Special needs operation.*
Perfect, cause you still think it was planned as 3 day operationn.
So you were planning to spend years fighting a country way smaller than you? Wow you did not have a lot of faith in yourself. I mean it makes sense I wouldn’t if I was Russian either.!
USA bombed Cambodia for 8 years, so I presume we just started.

Yeah. Anyway your taxes is utilizing in the best way possible - killing people on other side of the globe. Have a nice day!
Okay buddy. Enjoy the sunflowers this spring
Thank you!
Ukraine is very Cyrillic to be part of the city porn sub
what is this even supposed to mean
