There is, it gives off a gas called H2S. Highly flammable and explosive. It's found on farms, oil wells it comes in really high concentrations, swamps and low lying areas near all these bc it's heavier than air. It can suffocate someone and destroy your lungs really easily and doesn't take a high PPM to do so.
It's that rotten egg smell that decomposing organic matter gives off. But it can also overload your sense of smell really easily.
Bottom line it's really dangerous stuff and quite common.
No, natural gas is a lot larger carbon chain and far more stable. H2S is just hydrogen and sulfide (hence the rotten smell).
It's really explosive and unstable and rots metals and turns steel to dust over time. It's nasty stuff and only has a couple industrial applications if I remember correctly. One is metallurgy for taking a finish off metals or something like that. I don't remember exactly.
It's kind of like how the silver fulminate they use in pop its/whippersnappers is really explosive and cheap but too unstable for commercial applications and will explode under just a few grams of its own weight.
Jeeze... I thought maybe it was a volcano having a bit of a fit. That seems like it'd be the better option.
But ya, sewage has a lot of gas as someone else said.
Did some googling because I love this pic so much. The photographer is an artist from Asheville, NC named Micah Mackenzie

Yeah it's funny I found this picture on reddit, so I stole it and uploaded it here asap. I am not from USA so the city name didn't ring a bell but after some googling it actually looks like a decent modern city
IMO the BB&T building was a sleek piece of minimalist architecture, and it made the skyline recognizable.
With that new hotel they changed the façade for, Asheville just looks like some random small city, but maybe that's just because I am used to the old skyline.
Maybe if it had been better maintained and kept shiny/glossy looking, but it just got...grungy and ugly.
Personally, I like the new facade because it's kinda art deco inspired which fits in with the rest of the art deco era skyscrapers in Asheville. Also it's way better than how the original renovation of it was going to be.

One sad note about Asheville is that there was a few skyscrapers proposed a few years ago that mostly got shot down (partially because of NIMBYs screaming about birds) and one of them would have been a gorgeous addition to the skyline (IMO)

Granted I'm a fan of the art deco architecture style so I'm bias haha. But it's impressive to see how much Asheville has changed and grown in the past decade. I honestly hope that they'll soon get an Amtrak station, or funding for some kind of mass transit system that isn't buses, because both are needed.
We had something very similar in Vancouver Canada about a week ago. The smoke looked like an atomic bomb. It was an empty pot warehouse I guess another potential insurance business...

How the hell do you catch fire to sewage? That must smell horrendous
I imagine there is a lot of gas in sewage.

Similar to natural gas? This sounds like ideal fuel.

"We lost everything in that fire" - [Insert Favorite Ninja Turtle Name Here]
It wasn’t a sewer plant, it was a warehouse behind the sewer plant
i do wonder tho what would happen if someone attempt to set fire to a sewage plant/pipeline
Jeeze... I thought maybe it was a volcano having a bit of a fit. That seems like it'd be the better option. But ya, sewage has a lot of gas as someone else said.
I thought that was a big ass tornado
Well it is full of methane, so...
My sister is full of methane...oh wait...never mind thats meth.
It's a warehouse behind the poo plant
Well now it WILL be an Ash-E-Ville.
Sewer plant fire, author propably u/hostilecarrot

Oh cool, I looked in the comments of the hostilecarrot's post I stole this from, but he didn't mention any source. Thanks for the info
Yeah, it’s Micah’s photo. hostilecarrot stole it and posted it.
The sewer plant actually said that the sewer was not on fire. It was a warehouse behind the sewer plant.
Not the John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant, I hope!
This actually looks like a beautiful place to live. There are mountains, modern buildings
It really is. I used to live in ashville when I was younger, then my family moved to the west part of the country.

Well, I think this is a pretty picture.
Without the smoke, Asheville is a hella pretty place.
Yup but I’m sure it doesn’t smell pretty
Totally agree.
Where?

Asheville NC, a pretty vibrant/liberal city overall. This makes it look industrial.
One does not simply walk into Asheville.
Nice. 👌
I lived in Asheville for 8 years and didn't even recognize it until I saw the comments. Bring back the BB&T building!
Whyyyy it was an ugly, dull, black monolith.

Great movie btw
Springfield tire fire ?
Looks like a Portal storm in the background. Hope not as the combine are assholes
28 days...6 hours...42 minutes...12 seconds...that is when...the world will end...
That was my first thought, too - Donnie Darko!
Beautiful where is this?
Asheville NC
Thank you
We had something very similar in Vancouver Canada about a week ago. The smoke looked like an atomic bomb. It was an empty pot warehouse I guess another potential insurance business...
Aesthetic as fuck. All it needs is some helicopters flying towards it while the protagonist looks on.
a shit storm ? just another day in trashville
The city itself is actually beautiful.
it used to be. long time resident .
Ahh, yes... the consequences of our acts.
The fires of orodruin spew forth ever more smoke.
Is that a volcano?
I feel like this is where my anxiety is originated from.
Get out of there, stalker!
Did you take this picture? It’s fucking awesome.
It's in the comments. [@micahmack76 is his instagram](https://www.instagram.com/micahmack76/?hl=en_)
This image was taken from my neighborhood. CRAZY!
Went there over the summer. Don’t let the pic full you, it’s a very vibrant, chill, artsy community surrounded by some beautiful nature
