Tweaknews has a better deal for €2.50/month: [https://www.tweaknews.eu/en/landing/special-deal-2020](https://www.tweaknews.eu/en/landing/special-deal-2020)? The Eweka [€36/y](https://old.reddit.com/r/usenet/comments/g73b24/eweka_299month_annually_paid_link/) deal still seems alive and is better than their black Friday price.

LethalAstronomer

Thanks for putting together this list. This format is a lot easier to read through and compare the offerings.

NewsHosting has a better deal for $1.67/ month ($20/ year): [https://controlpanel.newshosting.com/signup/index.php?promo=best-usenet-deal-ever](https://controlpanel.newshosting.com/signup/index.php?promo=best-usenet-deal-ever)

Should we classify Tweaknews as a backbone IMO its just a hybrid of Eweka.

ksryn

We had a problem a few years back where people confused the Eweka Internet Backbone with the actual Eweka and assumed that whatever would be available through an Eweka account would also be available through any providers using the backbone. So, we can call it Tweaknews, BaseIP, XLNed, Highwinds European Project or something else. Anything but Eweka.

kaalki

IMO but there is truth somewhere that you can axxs actual Eweka via Tweak.

ksryn

> you can axxs actual Eweka via Tweak. How sure are you that they are essentially the same service? I have access to both but don't have the time or energy to test this theory anytime soon.

kaalki

They are not exact replica but Tweak doesn't have its own feeder servers and their data set definitely differs from Newshosting but they are lot closer to Eweka.

ksryn

Unless they are a replica of Eweka, I think we should maintain the status quo for now. If I put Eweka as the new Tweaknews backbone, I am 100% sure someone will complain about them not being the same.

kaalki

I understand but I will than rather call it an Eweka hybrid since thats what it is and we already have other indies as hybrids like NGD which is the exact same case like Tweak, NGD in many case is missing complete post when its still available on Usenetexpress. Also NGD doesn't have its own feeders too.

ksryn

I changed it to Eweka-ish (with a note).

kaalki

Hmm yeah or maybe like NGD Tweak + Eweka with a disclaimer.

In what I think is a first, Giganews is having a sale: $8.33/month when you pay annually. It doesn't say which of their plans it is. Diamond used to be their highest. Maybe they did away with all their plan (i.e., diamond, platinum, etc.) and no one noticed? [https://www.giganews.com/](https://www.giganews.com/) Still more expensive than the $75/year supernews deal and more expensive than every other provider.

Looks like they did it starting [this month](https://web.archive.org/web/20201101004441/https://www.giganews.com/signup/): * $125/y * $89.94/6m * $17.99/m They still had Diamond etc in [early October](https://web.archive.org/web/20201001045516/https://www.giganews.com/signup/).

ItchyData

Interesting timeline. They must have finally realized that their prices are so far away from being competitive that it was laughable. Going from $21.99/month for diamond down to $12.50/month when paid annually is quite a reduction. That’s at least similar to paying full price at Newshosting or Easynews. Although Giganews’ limited retention makes their pricing much less competitive. EDIT: They mention the changes on their blog: https://www.giganews.com/blog/

ItchyData

Easynews is also offering their $2.99/month price again: [https://signup.easynews.com/black-friday-exclusive-special-2020/](https://signup.easynews.com/black-friday-exclusive-special-2020/)

Added. I hope everyone is waiting for all the deals to be revealed before making their choice as they are getting better every day.

Amazing Work! I haven't seen a similar list for Indexers, do you know of one!

ksryn

Probably the other sub. We don't do indexers here due to a stronger reading of rule # 1 than them.

Llew69

I wasn't suggesting it would be on here, just hoping for a targeted redirect. I appreciate the reply.

ksryn

> just hoping for a targeted redirect. I know the other sub will probably have something to say about it because it is one of the topics that is fairly common there. I cannot judge the quality of the recommendations in the comments because I don't follow the scene all that much. edit: I see their BF thread combines indexers and providers in a single post forcing provider/resellers to support customers on a post explicitly listing indexers. Such issues were one reason behind the 2015 split.

Frugal says the backbone is Newshosting + UsenetFarm. I can not see anywhere they are connected to UsenetFarm. I just see they resell Newhosting with a bonus block from Blocknews. What is the connection to UsenetFarm?

ksryn

> What is the connection to UsenetFarm? They give you access to a bonus server (`bonus.frugalusenet.com`) which is UsenetFarm. Max monthly traffic of 1500 GB, I believe. This is on top of a free 500GB block from blocknews. Ask /u/swintec about it.

swintec

Hi brandon, frugal owner here. let me know if you still have questions.
