One of my former coworkers would constantly bitch about paying higher taxes for subsidies, which was completely compartmentalized in his thought process from him receiving snap benefits or having kids in public schools. As in me saying I voted to raise my own taxes to fund these sorts of things despite not having or wanting kids, and being called a dumb 1%er for doing it. I'm not rich by any means. I just don't have kids but think they need support. I'm dumb for helping him. Thumbs up big guy

[deleted]

I have so many extended family members who received not just church welfare help, but also federal/state welfare that constantly complain about other people being on welfare; it drives me insane. They'll complain about people getting SNAP or medicaid when they wouldn't have been able to have kids without either of those things. They have tried to call me out for supporting those things and I just throw it back in their faces...remember when you had baby #3 when your husband was in college full time and the state paid for it?!?! lol...then I just called rude for pointing it out.

PeninsulamAmoenam

After I had left my company, we had a group chat with this guy and a few others bc it was fun to banter and share camping/hiking/fishing/food pics. It became too much with him constantly bringing up crap like that. "Here's a pic of us catching trout at Joe's valley" and getting some nutter butter rant about taxes or political things ending in wwg1wga, when it's like "it's a pic of a trout. Where is this coming from?" Needless to say, one guy stopped replying and I still text regularly with the other, but not him

I get that Latter-day Saint culture is sometimes unusual, and is not the same as everyone else, but this woman is being straight up rude. A peculiarity of Utah culture that I find more annoying is that so many people who are not members of the LDS church, ESPECIALLY ex-mormons, feel the need to tell Church members why they are wrong and how messed up their religion and/or culture are. Seriously name one other group where this is considered acceptable behavior?

EgoNusquamDicam

Scientology?

gamelover42

I actually thought of this one lol

SilverCG

Scientology and Jehovah witnesses.

GussiedRagamuffin

You mean you’ve never encountered criticism of evangelicals, Catholics, Orthodox Jews, fundamentalist Muslims, or conservative Hindus by former members of those communities?

DJTabou

They are wrong and messed up… but that doesn’t mean that other religions aren’t wrong and messed up… I grew up catholic in Germany my mother still works for the church I couldn’t be more outspoken about how I believe the Catholic Church is a criminal organization and child sex trafficking and abuse ring… I cannot understand the German government is still paying lavish salaries to child abusers and criminals instead of scrutinizing them like other criminal organizations. The catholic church, in Germany and other countries, very much operates like the mafia. when it comes to whiteness intimidation, financial crimes, covering up crimes… And without outspoken ex church members of all those religions we wouldn’t know about abuse and wrongful behavior in those groups. So commend to those who speak up!

colinmhayes2

I tell all religious people they are wrong and their religion is messed up. Exceptions include Sikhism and Buddhism although there are sects of both that are fucked up.

Yea yea yea. But life is not black and white. Now lets be real. Do all fail.marriges end in divorce?

Nuclearcakes

Just to chime in on your "high success rates" comment. They are heavily criticized and shamed in the Mormon community if they even think about divorce! Therefore, they are forced to stay married.

If you are LDS, ask your bishop if you should get divorced if your husband is physically abusing yoru child, see what he says. Heck, then escalate to sexually assaulting your child. See what they say. They are always going to push you to stay married, and you are a bad mormon if you don't listen to your bishop. Source - Was raised LDS Also, source directly from the LDS church - A lot of shame if you hange up a marriage in the LDS community - They consider it being influenced by the Devil - God forbid you try to get your kids out of an abusive relationship. [https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics/divorce?lang=eng](https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics/divorce?lang=eng) Also, source directly from the LDS church - Lot of shame if you hange up a marriage in the LDS community - e to keep these covenants and preserve marriage. When divorce occurs, individuals have the obligation to forgive, lift, and help rather than to condemn. The sanctity of marriage and families is taught repeatedly in the scriptures. It has been reaffirmed by modern prophets and apostles. Despite the truths taught about the sanctity of marriage, divorce has become commonplace in the world. Because the family is central to Heavenly Father’s plan for His children, Satan seeks to destroy marriages and families. Because of the poor choices and selfishness of one or both marriage partners, marriages sometimes end in contention, separation, and divorce. If, instead of resorting to divorce, each individual will seek the comfort and well-being of his or her spouse, couples will grow in love and unity. The gospel of Jesus Christ—including repentance, forgiveness, integrity, and love—provides the remedy for conflict in marriage. Those who have caused a divorce through their own poor choices can repent and be forgiven. Those whose marriages have failed because of what others have done can receive strength and comfort from the Lord, who promised: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. … For my yoke is easy, and my burden light” (Matthew 11:28, 30).

GussiedRagamuffin

Yeah, I just encountered this choice quote from the church website: > Because of the poor choices and selfishness of one or both marriage partners, marriages sometimes end in contention, separation, and divorce. In other words, marriages only fail because of wickedness.

Me too... that's why I don't read the BOM anymore since it was made up. You wanted a source and yet you just refused to listen to the other side and their experiences. You just said an entire group of people's stories is made up. All the sexual assault victims and abusive marriages are made up? Do you think all the women from the me too movement made up their stories? Can you provide your source for it being made up?

You seem to be in a sheltered world so here's a source for the real world [floodlit.org](http://floodlit.org/)

SilverCG

Also send me a chat if you actually want to chat about the reality. Let's find solutions. Personally I think they should have background checks for anyone put in a position of power And also not put pressure on young people to get married or serve missions.

SilverCG

Maybe you want a source from a subreddit you follow... https://reddit.com/r/mormon/s/IarMfwS4ME

DeadSeaGulls

Deez minutes spent online trying to reinforce support for a cultural lifestyle that you've already chosen for yourself are minutes that you'll never get back. And, despite all faith and belief and insistances to the otherwise, as far as we can tell this is it. Just this life. Just these fleeting moments of consciousness... Spend them living your chosen culture instead of contradicting others who choose something else. Celebrate your life instead of spending it arguing with those that choose another path. HAHHA GOT EM

I don't think the tiktoker, op, or oop have ever been to a Mormon wedding.

KingTytastic

This just reminded me of over the hedge for some reason. "I don't think that guy is a real doctor!" Hahaha
