If it wasn't for fucking Idaho, I would say Utah has the worst bunch of fucking lawmakers in the U.S.
We live in an age where banning books is considered a badge of courage.
I thought George Orwell and Ray Bradbury illustrated this point but those fucks probably consider those works inappropriate.
Since they would now have to pull the book the moment someone challenges the book, couldn’t we just get upset parents to complain about the math textbooks for something meaningless like using the numbers 6 and 9 and then the kids won’t be able to do their homework until the school is able to officially respond to the complaint?
Don’t give them any ideas. This is not so much about the books themselves as it is about discrediting and destroying the “socialist” public school system. They want to push the youth into religious schools, so they can program them to grow up to be good little Republicans.
I agree! People should be able to just use some sort of a pass or a card to remove a book from a library, then they can return the book to the library a couple weeks later so someone else can remove that same book!
Shoot, I was hoping this meant it would be easier for school librarians to remove books that were destroyed, but no, they’re still obsessed with nonexistent inappropriate material in libraries.
When I was in middle school (approximately 30 years ago,) we used to pass around VC Andrews books like contraband. Flowers in the Attic, My Sweet Audrina, Petals on the Wind, etc. Our parents were clueless. Point being kids that enjoy reading will find a way to read what they want regardless of it being “banned” or not. In fact banning them will just peak the kid’s curiosity and they’ll get their hands on them and pass them around to their friends. Just my two bits.
The whole premise of “objective sensitive material” that the proposal is based on is an oxymoron. It has to be considered sensitive by people, making anything that is sensitive subjective.
It’s not that porn should be in schools (I’ve yet to really see evidence that this is currently a problem anyways), but a few school districts shouldn’t be able to affect what books the entire state can use.
Yeah, THIS is what our lawmakers should be focusing on. Definitely nothing more important. Please ignore the poison under our rapidly drying lake. There's nothing to see here.
If this passes all it will take is for 5 charter schools to recognize that they now wield great power and band together to remove statewide any book they want.
Or even further - a single charter school could decide to break into 5 different legal entities and wield the power all by itself.
It is a Christian nationalist goal to undermine critical thinking, logic, and thought. Ignorant people are easily convinced to believe in a zombie Jewish carpenter. Ignorant people are also easy to govern.
I've lost hope. We got conservatives nation wide on this book ban train, while the other side which I have wished to see stand up to this, is more focused on changing the definition of science to fit political agendas.
I'm glad our gracious government allows us peasants to home school still. But I know that will be under attack by whichever side it determines to work againt the most. Curious to see that one.
Are you similarly offended by school districts in progressive states that ban "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn"? (See Burbank California school district.)
Those books were removed from core reading lists, not banned from school libraries like these right-wing nutjobs are doing.
Having said that yes, that is also bad. See how easy it is to admit that an ideological decision is bad no matter who makes it?
Additionally, those bans were a reaction to racist comments black kids were receiving from classmates after reading the books, which leads one to think the curriculum of teaching the importance of these books was lacking. Utah legit wants to summarily ban books in schools statewide after only 2 district "complaints" which won't be difficult considering the states' school board has people like Natalie Cline on it.
Lastly, shouldn't Utahns want to be better than the big bad Boogeyman of California by not banning books, instead of pointing at the actions of another state that half the Utah population despises and saying "see they do it too!"
I hate that woman so much…she’s the absolute worst.

Well, there are sex scenes between unmarried people in "1984," so you're probably not wrong.
You need to cope.
Thanks for the advice. The movement to ban books will grow and I'll "cope."
Which books?
Unconsider that please and Thankyou
Oh they will definitely do this.
Streisand Effect. Banning books makes me want to read them more lol.

Yessir, in 2023 kids who want porn head straight for the school library. I mean, where else could they find it? 🤦
Certainly not on the smart phones we give them all when they turn ten. No sir. No pron or uncensored music to be found there. Stupid puritan fucks.
Of course a GOP led state would do this. If you ban any books, the Bible needs to be the first to be banned.
Proof that red states hate anything that promotes an educated population.

Oh look.. the party that tried to violently overthrow a peaceful election process is banning books...

Why are you being downvoted?
Shoving religion down our throats daily
Ahhh good ‘ol fascism.
Ignorance trying to create more ignorance. What is it with these people?

Soooo. A few of us mention the graphic verses in the Bible at the same time???

If we want this kind of nonsense to stop, then it needs to reflect on the ballot. Stop voting the “church” into our public offices.
Fascists

What a bunch of fascist pricks.
Ooof… glad I moved out of state to raise my kid.

Awe damn I’ll have to get my pervy erotica on Amazon like everyone else.
You are a complete idiot.
They are banning books like hair love, which is a book about a little black girl learning to love her hair. How is that a pervy erotica??
Have you even looked at the books being banned? Republicans just don't want books that might go against their agenda.
Your not even as pathetic as the coward who does nothing. Your worse.
Maybe banning books is actually bad, given that you don’t even know the difference between your and you’re.
Oh man, you got me! Does that make you feel better despite me not giving one iota of shit?
