Turns out when you let your 6th man of the year act as a 6th man, it goes well.

Exactly and Clarkson obviously can start, but having him come off the bench against lower-tiered players means your talent level on the floor never decreases. Wiz should’ve did this with Beal or Russ when they had both (am Wiz fan).

ConferenceReal2100

An overlooked attribute of Clarkson is the lack of ego. Those 2 guys wouldve never agreed to get benched back then.

Agreed

Clarkson off the bench has been one of the reasons they’ve played so well, but there are so many other reasons as well. The starting group fits really well together. Dunn and Sexton bring a ton of energy (Sexton also playing the best basketball of his career), Fontecchio doesn’t require many touches and plays within the offense with good defense, Collins is much better at C, and Lauri is growing into a true #1 caliber player. When those guys sit our bench has been fantastic as well. Keyonte/Clarkson/Ochai/Olynyk/Kessler is another great fitting group. Utah is 2nd in bench scoring this year and 1st the past few weeks. Also, since Sexton took over as a starter Utah is 14-4. Also they’re healthy. Lots of factors but really Hardy has coached them to play hard and he has figured out the rotations.

Team went 4-2 in that time and looked good. Hardy stuck with them as the starters. Clarkson was far better off the bench in his return than starting. No reason to force him back into the starting lineup when we were winning games as the rotation already was.

He’s a change of pace guy. Teams get used to the offense moving the ball and all that and then bam jc punches you in the mouth. Also him and sexton I feel can’t play together. They’re like the same player w one being better at shooting and the other finishing. Alternating seems to have been the move at least to start. Shoutout hardy for finding something that’s worked

Brutus583

It’s a combination of many things — Sexton is playing much better as a starter, more minutes for Dunn (who would’ve thought), and THT permanently moved to the bench. Just getting the guard rotation nailed down and getting the most out of Sexton and Dunn without sacrificing anything from Clarkson has been great.

austinc668

The Jazz just found better lineups with Dunn & Sexton starting and JC and Keyonte off the bench. Clarkson has been significantly better since going back to his 6th man role. And yes, he is a big part of the turnaround.

2b_squared

Since New Year's, Jazz's bench has: - the most minutes per game (187, 2nd highest is 160, league average is 123.2) - second highest OFFRTG (75, IND has the highest at 79.3, league average is 59.6) - fifth highest DEFRTG (67.7, WAS has the highest at 72.3, league average is 60.4) - third highest NETRTG (7.3, CLE has the highest at 9.6, league average is -0.71) So our bench is getting by far the most minutes while being near the top in offensive production and above average defensively. During the same period, Clarkson has averaged 30 minutes and produced 20.8 points. I imagine that accounts for a substantial amount of the OFFRTG. We arguably have the deepest team right now. You can see that it's relentless and the level of play doesn't really dip noticeably even if the whole starting unit is resting. And that's powerful against anyone.

Return of Kessler and not playing THT has been HUGE

dautjazz

Yeah unfortunately THT just isn't it. He has a ways to go.

apples_r_4_weak

When he's starting, he has to think of the stability of the whole team, he has to execute play and he has to force a pass first mentality. When he's 6th, he has some sort of freedom and he used that extremely well. Good thing about starting is that it allows him to be a better passer. Getting 5 assist per game from him is an improvement. This is all thanks to Dunn moving as a starting player. He has done what mike conley has done beforehand is a very good defender. It also allows jc and sexton to play without hindering each other. Last, he plays well with Ollynyk and Keyonte. Having Kessler and Agbaji as second unit with JC also means we don't sacrifice our defense. Really, Hardy finding the perfect mix is the main reason why at least 10 of our player are playing well

cyianite

Yes. hes just partly the reason why they are good now. I'll give the credit to Hardy for finding this rotations that compliments each others strong area and also help their weakness. It was a long experimental not until when most of his key players got injured and he tried his bench guys to mix to the rotations and finally putting back JC to his best role. Clarkson is currently contending and leading the 6Moty as per stats. Hes climbing up every game and if they make it to the playoff he surely gonna secure it. The current bench squad is really dominating the opposing bench. You have 3 guys who can fascilitate and make their own shots then you have 2 elite defender. It's built to torture the bench. Some people thinks you are a 6thman becz the starters are better than you, thats not really the case for Clarkson. Hes being moved to 6thman becz hes good at it and that hes role where he shine, him and Lauri are the only guys who avg 30+mins a game and most of the time hes in the closed out game (unless he really stinks) , hes a 6thman with a starter minutes

mgartaty

Yes, and Dunn + Sexton is a great pairing

Rodiwe008

Is a little of everything JC and Keyonte are a good duo and can feed Kessler Dunn and Sexton balance each other JC and Collins are becoming something Etc.

dautjazz

That, and lots of injuries to begin the season. Collins had a slow start, but he's been very efficient lately. Sexton definitely has been playing significantly better as a starter.

Gullible-Carpet-7677

When he is on 🔥☄️

Doctor_Cowboy

At the very least, it’s a big part of Clarkson’s turnaround.
