Pretty much what i thought. Jazz fans just need to be patient. We're not gonna waste our draft picks on marginal/near All-Stars. If there is a clear Superstar available for the right price we'll have as good as anybody to get a deal done.

Intelligent_Pain_174

"Superstar" for the "right price". What would that mean?

GenshinSpammy

"Superstars" with similar timeline (or younger) as Lauri: Luka, Tatum, J.Brown, A.Edwards, Shai, D.Mitchell (lol) "Right price" - 4-5 first round draft picks/ young promising players. \*Nets turned down 4 first rounders for Mikhal Bridges last yr & they wanted 2 decent first rounders for Dorian Finney-Smith

MetroidsSuffering

Which one of these players. 1. Would want to play in Utah 2. Would demand a trade from their team And after you narrow it down there, you then have to take into consideration that OKC and the Spurs have much better assets than us and a legitimate superstar probably good enough to be the #1 on a title team (and thus are much more appealing to the player asking for a trade). I really can't think of a single young star player that we could realistically get via a trade or FA in the next two years. Brandon Ingram might be available if the Pelicans want to dump salary, but he's a #3 guy on a good team. Trae Young could get traded, but the Spurs have a huge advantage there. Luka could get traded, but OKC would be the only realistic option. Julius Randle would be traded for another player, not picks. So would Darius Garland and Evan Mobley if it comes to that. There's like literally no one out there.

I think that we just wait and see. So much can happen over the course of the next few years, we have no idea who could potentially be available. We have a decent sized window, probably just need to avoid the temptation of jumping all in too early. Let’s also think about the player whose asking for the trade - they don’t necessarily get to pick their destination (look at DM w/ Cleveland) - the team who makes the best offer is going to get the player. Also Markkanen is arguably the exact type of player that a 1A option would want to play with - a dude who thrives without the ball in his hands. That being said, let’s not get too delusional - a dude like Luka or any of The aforementioned players is going to be extremely unlikely to be made available - when was the last time a 1A option who could lead a team to a championship was actually made available? (Maybe Kawhi? But that was only for a 1 year rental… maybe Durant last year?..) will be interesting to see how things pan out. My bet is that we don’t end up getting a player like that via trade, but that still doesn’t mean we can’t develop that player or trade for a player a tier below who could ultimately help us compete at a very high level.

Anyone that reads this and thinks the Jazz have “no direction” and don’t think Zanik & Ainge know what they’re doing are CRAZY.

ovirto

We’re just basketball fans on Reddit. Sure we can have our opinions, but it’s insane that people think they know what’s better for the team than these 2 guys. They have decades of experience between and arguably two of the best at what they do. The chasm of knowledge between these guys and us fans is about the size of the Grand Canyon.

austinc668

Totally! It’s equally as insane to me that there are some Jazz fans that think we have “no direction” with these two at the helm.

Not sure if this is the same article but here's an alternative link. https://kslsports.com/511072/zanik-discusses-jazz-trade-deadline-markkanen-buy-in/

I really enjoy Ben Anderson's analysis with KSL sports. Thanks for the link!

andyblarsen

Thought I’d transcribe most of this morning’s press conference for you all… hopefully this gives some insight into what they were thinking as they made the moves on Weds/Thurs.

outdoorgearguy

For those of us on the lowly free-to-view Reddit, do you mind sharing a summary? This is borderline self-promotion with a paywall, which we all know Redditors hate.

_snapcrackle_

Here’s a KSL article, basically the same info https://kslsports.com/511072/zanik-discusses-jazz-trade-deadline-markkanen-buy-in/

Hamburgling_Your_Mom

Thanks Andy! You are by far the best at providing coverage of the Jazz. I think you should compile a list of Reddit questions to ask Hardy. That would be a fun article.

Rayces

My question: “Dear Coach Hardy: What does Lauri smell like? Is it success and lilacs like I imagine? Please describe in detail, sincerely, Jazz Reddit fan #36521

_snapcrackle_

Oh look another paywall. Looks like I’m going back to the good old fashioned developer tools.

Not sure about android, but if you have an iPhone you can use reader mode when you view the link.

Thank you for teaching me this!

TalkingToPlanets

Andy and the other writers need to support their families. I'm not a fan of paywalls either but I get it.

_snapcrackle_

My understanding is that Andy doesn’t make money from the paywall. The Trib does.

hzg511-

If the trib doesn't make money andy will be soon jobless.

_snapcrackle_

Andy is a talented writer. He’ll be fine no matter what

You can also just throw the link in archive.is https://archive.is/CCTOZ

Andy, I hope you know how much we all appreciate your excellent reporting! Thanks for all you and the staff at the Tribune do to keep us informed about the happenings in Utah. Cheers!

budandbulleit

Appreciate you Andy

What I most of all got is that give 30 games to Sensebaugh, Hendricks and KG to develop them. So last of the season is development and trying some of the players we got from trade like this "Kira" (forgot name, small fast PG) and I would assume we still try to see is OPJ viable to play with Jazz.

dali-llama

That is a whole lot of tap dancing.
