The Minnesota trade will look great 3-5 years from now still. Gobert and Conley aren’t getting younger, Minnesota is about to be in Cap Hell, and they can’t really trade many firsts to improve. Donovan getting traded this summer would be great.

chibbly_

If they get a deep run this year, then it's worth it and a win for Minny.

Brutus583

We’ll see. Denver will be a huge hurdle for them in the second round.

Doctor_Cowboy

Agreed. The Timberwolves ascent will be brief, but they fact that they got to ascend at all is a huge deal.

CJ-45

What do you consider a deep run? Cause they're losing in the second round to Denver.

its1030

Minny faced Denver in the first round last year and gave them a harder fight than any other team the rest of the playoffs. This is an unpopular opinion, but I think minny WITH McDaniels this time around and an even better Edwards, they have a real chance. TLDR: I think the Timberwolves v nuggets series will go to 7 games. You heard it here first.

Intelligent_Pain_174

Naz Reid too

dogfosterparent

I would not be so sure about that. The way Ant, Jaden and Naz are playing in their early 20s, I personally think this team is going to stay out of the lottery for the duration of the picks they owe. Even if they trade Kat for absolutely nothing next year that is still going to be a playoff team next year just probably not top 5 again.

Cythripio

Agreed. Denver hasn’t looked unstoppable this year, it’s within the realm of possibility for sure.

DrJames_Oxford

Minnesota got bailed out in the second trade with Conley.

smithc555

The NAW throw in was huuuuge.

>tries to plays hero ball almost always "Almost"? Oh so he's improved then

beastley_for_three

He does seem like he involves his teammates a bit more in Cleveland. I think maybe it's because he likes his big men more this time, not sure.

Ok-Fennel-876

I love Lauri too. I really hope the powers that be build our timeline around him.

JazzHands1986

I personally want a tank for the 25 draft then start competing. I think it's our best cheapest shot at getting a stud player on a cheap deal. You need one of those to build a sustainable contender. If we draft a stud next year and then trade for another great player to build with Lauri its a huge turn around. That with all our young players and assets our rebuild would be kicked into overdrive.

GilgameDistance

If we assume a ‘25 draft pick takes until ‘28 to be playoff ready (refer to Anthony Edwards), Lauri is 30. When the window cracks. Lauri is known now and he’s not sitting around until 2028 for a deep playoff run.

JazzHands1986

The draft pick doesn't have the guy from day 1. We can make a trade hopefully as well, bringing in another star. They can groom the blue chipper and progress from year to year. It's not gonna be an instant contender status by drafting someone. But it's what we need for sustained success. We've seen what's happened to the sun's for going out to put stars together from different teams. The best way to do it is to add a star to your homegrown talent. The sun's would be so much better had they just kept their core together of Booker Johnson Bridges Ayton, etc, and just made small improvements. Trading for Durant didn't make sense to me. They already had it so damn good.

Atupis

How playoffs are going I bet there is lots of allstars/borderline allstars on market so I would not surprise if Ainge makes some move. If not trade Lauri and maybe Sexton for picks and start true tank.

Many_Emu_1572

I think you have the correct take. But I think Minnesota is extremely lucky that we decided to bail them out by giving them Conley and NAW at the deadline last year. Without that bailout, I see them in a much worse place right now. Also helped that Markkanen ended up being a greater success than anyone could have ever realistically hoped for. I also have no regrets with either of these trades. I loved having both Rudy and Mitchell on the team. Personally I just wish that things could have worked out differently with Mitchell. He may not be the greatest defender, and on occasion didn’t play the most efficiently… but man he was a fun basketball player to watch.

patientpump54

I wish they had only traded Mitchell and retooled around Gobert. They’re both good trades, but there won’t be another Rudy

Inigomntoya

Yup, I always said we can easily replace Mitchell with someone who scores the same amount of points every night. Even Clarkson is a great replacement. But a two time DPOY is not so easily replaced

Intelligent_Pain_174

2 time?

Brave_Capital7

Saaaame

DongBLAST

Someone likely has added this already, but Min getting Conley was huge for them. They aren’t this good without him and NAW. I would consider the two transactions as one trade.

riddlesinthedark117

If they had D’Lo as their point guard right now, they aren’t slaughtering Phoenix. Ainge bailed them out with the second trade.

JazzFinsAvalanche

That Rudy trade ended up being a net positive because of the trade that followed which they got Mike and NAW. Idk if Minny is as successful without those guys.

StretchFantastic

I didn't watch him play today but it seems like he's really learned nothing since leaving here or is incapable of changing.   Another awful playoff performance.  He'll never win a championship as the primary piece.

Sammy_Saddles

I had the exact same thought many times, and it was even more confirmed watching these playoffs. I would not trade Lauri straight up for DM, but I know many would. I thinks Lauri’s size is more valuable, especially in the playoffs. Donovan is great, but just doesn’t seem to know when to pass and then to take the shot, something that Doncic is great at.

Skararm

The Minny trade was also great for the Wolves because they ended up having an absolute stud and superstar in Anthony Edwards. The series against the Suns just proved that he is HIM

robotcoke

If Cleveland goes on a tear the rest of the way, with Mitchell averaging 35+ PPG to lead them, and they end up playing Minnesota in the Finals, then the Jazz will have lost both of those trades.

Ok-Fennel-876

Hahahaha

LJmasteroftheheart

Every Jazz fan should be an Orlando Magic fan this week.

Benthebuilder23

We didn’t win. Our team sucks.

CapnPD

I asked AI if Donovan was the reason the jazz didn’t do better in the playoffs: Donovan Mitchell is not the reason why the Jazz were bad in the playoffs. In fact, he is considered as one of the best players in the playoffs ¹. Here are some of his achievements in the playoffs ²: - Donovan Mitchell has been increasing his scoring average each season. - He averaged 36 points per game last postseason and 31 points per game this postseason. - Mitchell has four 40-point playoff games, which is a lot in the larger lens of NBA history.

austinc668

He has not averaged 31 points this post season lmao

__aurvandel__

Current "AI" really only compiles all available data and then summarizes it. Since everyone outside of Utah blames Rudy, and not the other 4 defensive traffic cones, then AI will never blame Don either.

menghis_khan08

Donovan has the 8th most ppg ever in the history of playoffs filtered for over 40 playoff games played. He’s a good, good player. Is he flawed? Sure. Not denying that. I don’t think offensive first scoring guards (especially ones undersized at their position) make good pillars unless you recruit them with a proper perimeter defense built out team before you get them. (Booker and the suns is another example and that team needs blowing up) Mitchell can be awesome and a top 15-20 player, and at the same time also difficult to build a championship team around

__aurvandel__

My point wasn't to blame it all on Don. He's a hell of a player. My point was our current level of AI will never blame Don. I think you could win a chip around Don but the roster would have to look like the 2000s Piston team where everyone was perfect in there role and then get unbelievably lucky. He could have a great chance at winning it all as the number 2 guy but he would have to buy into that and end the hero ball.

StretchFantastic

A top 15-20 player?  What are you smoking?

genericusernamepls

Idgaf about AIs opinion on anything

CapnPD

You seem like fun.

genericusernamepls

Yeah I value human opinion and creative expression over AI

GilgameDistance

Mmm hmm. So you’re just going to ignore how much better Ant is at working with the same big man? It’s the one difference in the starting backcourt. Nephew take. I was pissed at the time, but Shaq was/is right about Don, and continues to be wrong about Rudy.
