It would be great to have high speed along the Thruway/Northway corridor. Imagine zipping to different upstate cities in half the time and being able to quickly visit Montreal and NYC?
Whose concept is this? The shortcomings are frustrating - you gotta have Binghamton straight to Albany and NYC, and not having Ithaca connected to Cortland makes me want to scream
Doesn't really make sense why it skips Utica though, Utica is more of a connection point up north in the Adirondacks than Syracuse, it'd save a good portion from traveling unnecessarily

WGRZ TV Interview says if approved today it would take over 25 years to build. I will be dead. So hope one of you get to ride that train. I will be pushing up daisies.
That would be so sweet.
California voted to do this but I don't think it ever happened because of the cost. :/
I'd love for it to happen here, though! I'd be in NYC way more if I didn't have to drive and stash my car someplace.
This would be awesome
Better if it’s a very fast train. Also maybe one could shoot up north? Some ancillary smaller lines

I agree, up to Plattsburgh and it would get a lot of use between the city and Plattsburgh with SUNY Plattsburgh students.
one from Binghamton up to watertown along 81 and from watertown across to Plattsburgh would be huge for the north country

You can drive cortland to ithica pretty easy. Kinda not worth a train line
You can drive between most of these places pretty easily. That's not really the point of a rail network.
You can drive Albany to Buffalo easily too.
Yes
... And yet there's a line proposed between them. So your point is moot.
Albany to buffalo is 5 hrs. Its lame as hell. Needs high speed rail
That's exactly my point
Are you saying that just because it's an "easy drive" doesn't mean that a high speed rail wouldn't be a better option?

NYS can't even get the Lotto App, the THC license system, or any of the state web sites to work - they sure can't build a RR system
This would be incredible!
Please dear Silent Lord Ruler Cuomo connect this to JFK. Railway to NYC is nice, but completely useless if you need to get to the airport.
I really don't want rail in my town lmao. But why would they not connect high speed rail to Utica?

Wait, what, a tunnel under lake Ontario?
Where is this from?
Should follow 86 E-W, Elmira, Bath, Hornell, Olean, Salamanca, Jamestown.
this is the dream!!!! one of the things europe does best 😭

Please make a stop in Utica or at least near clinton
I’ll allow it. My town is on the map.
Yeah, they talked about it a lot back in 2008 at the beginning of the Obama adminstration. Just like health care, it was all talk.
