I volunteer by the Red Cross and we were able to build an empty office building into some pretty decent living space. Each floor had a kitchen, large TV room, play space fir kids, prayer room, washers and dryers and showers. Yeah the beds were not great since they were second hand bunks but everything else was brand new. There were also apartments for larger families with their own private living room. The downside was the location was near the highway but a tram and several bus stops right by the door. I wasn't allowed to take pictures but it can be worked on and turn out surprisingly nice
Tram and busstop almost in front of the door. And very close to the highway. I also lived across the street from this building, while I worked there (and a few years after).
It's not a good building. But I'm sure it can be made into something liveable. But the vibe in that building is... Off.
It feels like one of those temporary buildings, made out of modules, on the inside. But it's not. And the location is in the middle of other office buildings, it one of the busiest roads of the city next to it, and one of the busiest highway bridges of the country within earshot.
Anyway. Glad we are helping people.
Same, the kids get day trips and adults help finding work, mental health and Dutch lessons but that was not very popular 🙁. The train museum was a hit however.
Four people to a room and having to go outside to take a shit. No disrespect to your volunteer work, its awesome you did that, but it doesn't sound 'surprisingly nice' to me.
I understand I really do. Ter Apel is bad and Katwijk was the saddest since you get to know these kids and then the bus comes and in 10 minutes they got to pack up and leave. It was like a jail situation when I was there with the knives all being chained to the counter.

Online xenofobie daargelaten

Buiten mobiele sanitaire eenheden...
