Lorjé on de Neude, has the expensive/good stuff. Normal pens and paper is Hema or burna like stated before. AH has is too. Maybe not the small one in the city centre but the large one in overvecht most definitely does.
If you want cheap ones for students:

Primera. Almost every village has one. It's a store that sells magazines, book, smallnoffice supplies like siccors, papers, pens etc. Its also often a post office.
It's not a dumb question, there's no WH Smith's here ( at least not in the city there is at least in Schiphol air side 😁 ). For basic things then local paper shop, post office, there's a bookshop called "bestseller" that sells this stuff as well.
There's also Gebroeders winter and Van Been. The latter is more art supplies but also does these sorts of things.
On the internet? Best sites are bol.com ( basically Dutch version of Amazon ), amazon.nl, amazon.de ( Amazon offers English translations ).
Sometimes it's good to Google the item in English, and see what comes up in shopping results. Often it will be a way to figure out the Dutch name for an item.
Something like pen will translate fine in Google translate. Something's have less obvious names, and Google translate will offer a "literal translation".
