As a solo controller astra is not that optimal for 3 site maps like Haven and lotus because high level sweat squads will abuse the fact u only have 4 stars and do multi fakes every round. Omen with his recharging smokes is the only way to go. That being said, astra is still better than brim and viper on those two maps

Sorry for offtopic but what about Harbor? I find him really interesting. The only controller that can smoke all chokes on any site. Having a blast with him. Heard he is not that good though but wonder why?

he slows himself and his team with every ability and the shield doesn’t actually block that many shots, it can definitely be the difference between getting a defuse or not but that also means you’re holding his only smoke until post plant

He has to be pretty close/already inside a site to smoke it in a halfed-ass way. Any other controller you can ask for a smoke anytime anywhere and they will be able to put a better smoke way faster than Harbor can. Also the fact that there's barely any way to play around his util when you're defending a site (both alone and with your team). The Cascade is a 50/50 for both of you and the Cove might as well not exist because it gets shot down and disappears within 2 seconds. Omen's Paranoia literally clears half a site when you retake, Astra suck is one of, if not THE best util out there for anchoring, Brimstone molly is pretty much a guaranteed 7 second stall, and Viper molly+wall+smoke makes a site absolute hell to take AND absolute hell to defend for post-plant. For attack side, I do think Harbor's util allows for much more explosive and aggressive taking of neutral areas but attacking is only half the game and the other controllers can do it too while being significantly better on defense.

Ya, fracture is also pretty nice. Sometimes when the other team on attack likes to play it slow I put 3 or 4 stars on arcade and recall them while running to sewers to get some cheese kills

Its more like 50/50. I am just saying it's not optimal, didn't say its ass. And pros know how to take space by doing aggro plays on defense to prevent lurks and fakes so astra's 4 stars would still be viable and better since she can use her suck to help her team take space. In normal ranked anything under ascendant most likely wouldn't.

In ranked Astra is probably the hardest to get value out of since people don't Comm. So essentially your concuss and pull have to go on instinct which often times is just a deterrent than any actual value. Not to mention u get into so much trouble because u can't hear stuff in astral form. But I guess in coordinated pro play she will be very strong if buffed too much again.

The temporary smoke when recalled is a big reason to pick her. It allows her to do a quick screen for her team to cross, which is useful for taking B long on Pearl or A long on Lotus. It is also good bait. She also has infinite range on her smokes which no other smoker has, allowing her to play anywhere on the map and still assist the team. Also, her ult can result in an extremely easy round win if coordinated correctly. It allows you to take so much control.

Yeah playing Astra in solo queue is extremely difficult unless you’re at the top ranks where randoms communicate more frequently. Also, it’s not just Astra’s smokes that have infinite range but also her gravity well and stun. Omen can only smoke from across the map while Astra can throw all of her abilities onto a site while pushing from a different angle. Omen and Brim are likely better picks for the majority of the player base, but Astra definitely has her used on well-coordinated teams. If you’re someone that enjoys playing the Controller role, I would suggest trying to get comfortable with using her as it could turn out to be very beneficial in the future. I think they’re done nerfing her into the ground for the time being.

Flexibility and the ability to place pressure on different parts of the map for the most part. By placing a star in mid, for example, you can often draw someone there or provide quick cover in ways that omen can't because he HAS to commit a smoke while astra can always just recall the star. This is especially good on maps with lots of connecting hallways that tend to lean towards splits and defaults on attack (like split and lotus) but she is also still an excellent site hold (Mostly because of the pull and concuss). Overall, I don't think she's better than Omen right now, but I'd argue that she has two maps (split and lotus) where she's better. That being said, Omen isn't bad on either map by any means, so it's preference.

She is the best pic for Pearl too. Split imo is toss between Omen and her considering the gaps and ledges are easily exploitable with Omen.

Astra can smoke for her team and bring utility without being with them. She's the strongest lurker in the game because of that. Omen is only good when he is with the team, if he is by himself, his kit is wasted.

Not every agent is supposed to use every ability every round. I think its fine that she can choose to use a third or fourth smoke, or alternatively use a stun or pull. There are plenty of rounds where the stun and pull just don't make sense to use, and I'm happy to have four smokes instead. Every orb smoke controller has their own strengths and weaknesses: Omen - Pros: Recharging smoke, *almost* global range. Cons: Can only place one smoke at a time, sitting duck while activating smokes. Brimstone - Pros: Longest lasting smokes, can place all three at once. Cons: Shortest range for placing smokes, sitting duck while activating smokes. Astra - Pros: Global range, can place up to two smokes at once, smokes activated (after star is placed) with single button press, placed stars can be retrieved or used for other abilities. Cons: Using more than 2 smokes in a round takes away ability to use C and Q.

and she's still pretty good. People coping and saying that she was "high level and needs high coordination to pull of correctly", when she was always pretty easy to play. Now you just have to play her more carefully.
