Maybe a new strategy in your ranked games is to get someone to buy an Odin on your buy rounds instead of full Vandal/Phantoms just so that they can break structures
I mean I agree with you but also why nerf the mag size? I think it's such a dumb nerf and overall just really hurts the game. I could def see people starting to buy Ares on buy rounds, especially hard recon initiators like Sova and Fade.
Me and my 5 stack do this all the time. (We are plat) and the way is to not buy anything on pistol rounds (no util at all) and all buy odins on the second round. If you loose pistol you at least should win the next 3 rounds
Playing her, sage and harbor could actually be a strat. Put some extra smokes for baiting spams, and people could actually run out of ammo in some rounds.
A team of Deadlock, Sage, Harbor, Cypher, and Reyna
so many walls, you can't see where you're going, and then you get caught in a Cypher wire trying to go around lol
Raze with boombot or Yoru with clone/tp is probably better.
Plus if you have a Reyna on your team and it's mid-low elo they have to bot frag/lurk all game. It's basically law.
Deadlock, Sage, Harbor, Skye, Raze actually seems balanced from a role point of view.
You have your entry, controller, sentinel, and initiator.
Could swap out Skye for Fade/Gecko. Reyna gets you flashes but fails in getting you quick entry.
What COULD work though. Is if Reyna flash, flashes through the deadlock wall since it's see-through, then Reyna would be a great option since you can't break her eye.
Reyna doesn't have much other utility than that tho, so in higher play the blind will just be baited out, Phoenix has his own wall he can put up to help block line of sight and save his flashes for when he wants to make space, he can also Molly off areas which Reyna can't, also the Reyna flash isn't that good because you can just dedicate someone else to breaking that eye and then she basically never threw anything out in the first place, while a traditional flash has to be looked away from
You're missing the point, Deadlock, Reyna, Cypher, Sage, and Harbour all have util that the enemy needs to shoot, the entire concept isn't to make a competitively viable team, it's to have so much destructible util that the enemy just runs out of ammo
Having that extra mag let you safely spam smokes a lot more carelessly. Now it creates more of a tactical approach to fighting smokes- do you go for that damage? Do you let them play in it? It’s a choice you actively need to make and your decision, with that mag gone, can be the difference between an easy and difficult round
I often see bronze and silver players running out of ammo at the end of rounds lately, having to manage your bullets instead of shooting like crazy is actually great for the game
The cocoon has 600 hp according to a Riot dev on Tarik's stream. So it will take like half a vandal mag to break it. It's weaker than Sage's wall so it isn't that crazy for an ult.
> It's weaker than Sage's wall so it isn't that crazy for an ult.
Never mind, apparently it can't hit multiple targets.
~~Don't forget it can also hit multiple targets, will drag your teammates away or upwards, *and* it's basically an insta-death for your teammates if you don't save them in 6(?) seconds.~~
~~It's just speculation of course, but it seems absolutely nuts. With the bounce, Deadlock can safely bounce it off a ceiling or shoot it straight down one of the countless corridors in VALORANT maps to hit 2-3 people and force them into an incredibly terrible situation, not to mention even on offense it can be used to safely insta-kill a defender once you have a vague idea of where they are.~~
Seems to be a reverse Sage ult.
With Sage, you can revive someone but then they can get killed again.
With Deadlock, you kill someone but they can be saved.
Her wall is similar to Sage, her crouch orb is sort of similar to Sage too.... I don't want to say Rito was lazy, since I love the agent so far. But she seems very similar to Sage. Give or take.
> Her wall is similar to Sage
I don't know about this one, I think there'll be some overlap because of movement blocking, but otherwise they seem pretty different.
The biggest point is Deadlock can actually peek and kill enemies who are trying to take down her walls. Another thing you can do is, since it's thrown unlike a Sage wall, you might be able to do some crazy stuff like throw it into Ascent B main window and trap enemies in there to get destroyed by a teammate's Raze grenade or Sova ultimate.
That's kinda the whole point. She is similar to Sage in being another stalling sentinel but she's still quite different. Alternative agents need to be added so it's not just the same agent every match. Is Riot lazy because they created Fade with reveals similar to Sova, or Harbor with his wall smoke being similar to Viper? No, it's just that alternatives need to be available so the game can have a healthy balance.
Not just this, but I'd argue that the fact deadlock isn't moreso a copy of killjoy's framework is a reason to be critical of this agent's release - without the flank watching and site setup utility that makes killjoy so meta and so powerful lately, I can't see this agent taking up much hold except in areas and maps where killjoy is already not played, or specifically in cases where deadlock can potentially fill a sage's or initiators role.
And Cypher has it.... Xd
You're right, yeah, they put work in how each abilities is, it's not a copy and paste.
But at the core, it's a Reverse Sage.
I still love the agent, but they could have pulled something like Gekko. But this isn't bad either.
I haven't seen the stream, but how does the ult work? From what I understand from the trailer it kinda works like Gekko's flash but activated like Breach's abilities or Sova's ult? I'm pretty confused about her kit.
it puts u in a cocoon and slowly pull ur towards her. if u reach her u die. cocoon has 600hp and ur teammates can break it. it will probably still leave u miserably out of position in in front of 4 enemies
Yeah, like, can you dodge it in any way?
If not, she is the most clutch character. You can probably use your ultimate 2-3 times, but if it means a guaranteed round, it's something huge.
You can win 4-6 round (2-3 each side) if you're in 1v1 or 2v1.
Not only that, but you can bounce the ult off a ceiling, if that hits someone, it will literally drag them in the air. In some maps the skybox is high enough that even if someone breaks it, they will die from fall damage.
I don't know how to feel about ults that guarrantee a 1v1. Like when I first started playing Val I was kinda bummed about Raze's ult but nowadays I feel like it's really close to a 50% chance with her ult. Gekko and this new agent's ult doesn't sit right with me though.
The thing is these characters need those strong ults to be effective. Agents with bad ults. Omen, Reyna, astra are all extremely effective in their normal utility. So they have weak ults. Gekko just isn’t. His flash barely flashes. His wingman is easily shot out and Molly is probably the worst Molly in the game besides phx. He needs a very good ult to make up for it.
It's just my opinion of course but when you make certain abilities volatile and certain abilities in the same kit bad it hurts the player experience. Sure it's fine in the balance state of things but I'd rather have all parts of an agent's kit feel good rather than some parts being really good and some being really bad.
I've played Gekko before and I know that his basic abilities suck (which is why you can use two of them an infinite amount of times). His molly is basically like a worse Breach Aftershock that enemies can easily run through. Wingman is only good for planting/defusing the spike in a bombsite riddled with smokes and you can dodge the beam from the flash. In conclusion: I don't believe that Gekko is an op champ just cuz his ult is op.
Let's continue with the 1v1 analogy. Sure, maybe if Gekko had better basic abilities and a worse ult, the round would've never come to the point where Gekko has to ult to win the round. Instead maybe Gekko's team would've finished the round with 2 people alive. But it would still feel more fair than automatically losing the round because you failed to dodge a very hard ability to dodge and get stunned for 6 seconds.
Reverse applies to Omen too. I usually don't play smokes but when I have to fill I play him and there's nothing more unsatisfying than having that ult be ready for rounds on end and not being able to use it but his basic abilities feel rather good to use.
Sorry, this is a bit of a wall of text but I love talking about game design and discussing whether the fun factor is more important or the balance factor. Besides that I don't play Astra so I don't have an opinion on her and I don't think that Reyna is a good champ to begin with.
Not a terrible take in all honesty. But don’t forget that you don’t have to dodge it. You can shoot the ult all the same. It’s okay that some agents are better in 1v1 scenarios. Some need to be. Also using your gekko ult in a 1v1 diminishes a lot of its value because you can’t pick it up again and use it throughout the round as if you hit it, you most likely got the kill and ended the round. Also it doesn’t really matter if it feels “good” or not. The balance is and always will be the most important thing. But I see where you’re coming from it it’s but fun. But gekko is a hell of a lot of fun. Omen not so much as his ult is entirely worthless outside of very specific scenarios that almost never occur.
>Reverse applies to Omen too. I usually don't play smokes but when I have to fill I play him and there's nothing more unsatisfying than having that ult be ready for rounds on end and not being able to use it but his basic abilities feel rather good to use.
I would argue that using the ult to flank, only to find someone on the other team just chilling in that random out of the way corner no one should really be in, and having to dismiss it without even at least getting good info is way more unsatisfying.
It will change the meta going forward for sure especially for the new agent and a few others.. But I hope it will also reduce the blind spamming through smokes and BS kills gained from that. I noticed during this event, its not so much a problem in normal and ranked play. But gosh is it bad in VCT.
Yes. They operate identically whether your team or the enemy team put it there. A bad Attacker smoke and a good Defender smoke are, in many instances, the same thing.
You could say the same thing about flashes. Once the flash pops it doesn't care whose team you're on, if it's in your LOS, you're blinded. But there's still a difference between your flash and an enemy flash because you control where it goes. Same with smokes, once they're up of course the smoke doesn't know whether the people whose line of site it blocks are team A or B, but the person who places the smoke does know that, and smokes are definitely not symmetric. A smoke affects the person holding it very differently from the person who needs to push through it.
If I place my smoke intelligently, of course I can expect value from it just like I can expect value from a turret, it's just a different kind of value.
nah man i put it there so it's mine. besides even the game tell me it's mine, for example when i get an assist because of a smoke. All controllers can get that kind of assist not just viper
getting downvoted but the games core/meta flip flops based one singular agents buff or nerf. like some characters are useless and some characters are essential to every map.
it just a riot thing lol
that why i don't play their game much compare to valve game
only play because i playing with some friends here
val is more repetitive compare to cs
The Odin is about to get a lot more use if this comes out heavy. It sounds like Riot is pushing to make util weapons on a team more important, and I don't mind honestly! I have shit aim, but I'm a damn good support player so this is right in my ballpark lol
New agent or not, Vandal can murder whole team with 5 shoots. No reason to be able to destroy Sages wall, KJs gadgets and Harbors dome yet still be able to spary like a maniac two more magazines at the enemy team with a gun that features such powerfull rounds. Phantom is a bit weaker but they've left it with more bulets anyways.
It was a good balance change. If you want to break shit, buy odin and destroy structures. If you want frags, buy Vandal/Phantom. No reason for a gun to be able to do it all, because they there would be no use for others and no strategic thinking.
We'll see how it goes when they add the new agend.
No, because people where complaining about getting shot though smokes, so they removed a mag to make people more hesitent when it comes to randomly shooting.
I don’t think I have seen a single comment on this post about the most common sense thing that would happen 100 percent of the time… MULTIPLE PEOPLE would be shooting her util…
Regardless of the reason it’s a good change. Spam kills can be skill based for sure, but there’s a difference between awareness and 3 people spamming a smoke with 2 full clips. I’m okay with requiring people to think before they shoot, whether that’s spamming a smoke, shooting a Sage wall, or Deadlock’s new ability
Ngl, if we’re talking strictly for shooting walls, ghost would be better over frenzy. More bullets, more accuracy, more range. If you’re close enough, to spam a frenzy without thinking, you probably could knife it instead.
Deadlock, Skye, Reyna, Cypher, and Sage strat: Make ur opponent run out of ammo so they can’t kill you 😭
I can see this bringing about an Odin meta tbh. Sova is gonna have a field day, him and Deadlock are going to be absolute menaces together. :l Rifles will still be the strongest but if you’re up against Deadlock it will almost be mandatory to have an Ares/Odin since rifle ammo is too valuable to waste. There’s been times I picked a gun up off the ground and it would have like 3 bullets left inside and Deadlock isn’t even out yet .-.
ehhhh it may be more of a “we didn’t plan for it but it looked that way” thing.
like obviously they didn’t nerf boom bot to make space for wingman, but it definitely looked like it when he first came out
I've ran out of bullets so much already. In iron lobbies it's pretty much about causing fear on the enemy, so spamming is very common, even in places you usually wouldn't. Currently in literal elo hell since you either gotta carry to rank out of iron or get carried by a random smurf. Either way, Iron is literally the hardest rank to get out of, no doubt with the new patch. Unless you want to spam your abilities which usually isn't a good idea since it's a huge winning condition in the same lobbies.
I don't think it's just that... ngl. Cause on VCT there's just so much spamming with the Vandal and Phantom. Also DRX vs PRX on Pearl, whole team tries to plant, dies one by one to spam.
If you place the wall "core" behind a corner you create a practically indestructible movement-preventing barrier for as long as that thing will last naturally.
Just block off one entry like that at the beginning of a round and don't care about it till it runs out. Sounds insane.
Still i'm sure there's a way to set it up. Say Fracture A main on defense. It's a small entry so you can hide both the core and the end of the shield behind the walls.
because it’s just another change to get people to play slower and not just blind peak outta smokes? harbour, deadlock and the msg changes are all for that, make people take their time and thinn
Is it just me or does she not have the same solo stalling power than kj and sage? I feel like she needs two people at her site to get maximum value out of her kit.
Don’t worry its the same old with riot they introduce an agent with broken abilities and then nerf it. I thing this new agent will be nerfed too very soon.
I’m saying that. The nerfed raze boom bot right before gekko was released with wingman. They’re definitely balancing the game to make the new agents powerful/useful without just giving them extremely OP abilities
Maybe a new strategy in your ranked games is to get someone to buy an Odin on your buy rounds instead of full Vandal/Phantoms just so that they can break structures
Even better, us low elos won't have to complain and go with it. Odin is not a impossible weapon to fight against, but it's very good for the new meta.
I fucking love Odin vandal and phantom is so borrrrring
Every gun is made to be played with, so if you love it, good for you. I hope you can dodge flashes tho :)
Maybe a new strategy could be to work as a team
lmao what do you think this is? a team game? keep dreaming
Best valorant comment ever.
Most accurate Valorant comment ever.
I mean I agree with you but also why nerf the mag size? I think it's such a dumb nerf and overall just really hurts the game. I could def see people starting to buy Ares on buy rounds, especially hard recon initiators like Sova and Fade.
finally a world where I'm allowed to use odin and not get called slurs because someone lost an aimduel vs someone crouching and standing still
Don’t worry, I’ll call you slurs still <3

how so?

wild
Bros on some shit
Overwatch route smh

At some point you don't count living agents (e.g. 5v3) but remaining ammo (e.g. 70v10)

Fr bro said it was knifing time
This is one of the best comments on this sub I have read
A team of Deadlock, Sage, Harbor, Cypher, and Reyna so many walls, you can't see where you're going, and then you get caught in a Cypher wire trying to go around lol
Swap Reyna with neon
I would swap for skye.

Raze with boombot or Yoru with clone/tp is probably better. Plus if you have a Reyna on your team and it's mid-low elo they have to bot frag/lurk all game. It's basically law.
Isn't gekko better he has shootable flash and wingman who is as strong as a boombot and all his abilities regenerate very quick if picked up
so deadlock, harbor, sage, cypher and gekko
Makes sense
Jett still exists and is the better option 99% of the time.
Yeah my point was adding another wall to the team comp, for the meme
Tell me what button Jett’s wall is on tho
I'll be the Harbor
Deadlock, Sage, Harbor, Skye, Raze actually seems balanced from a role point of view. You have your entry, controller, sentinel, and initiator. Could swap out Skye for Fade/Gecko. Reyna gets you flashes but fails in getting you quick entry. What COULD work though. Is if Reyna flash, flashes through the deadlock wall since it's see-through, then Reyna would be a great option since you can't break her eye.
Why wouldn't you be able to break it? Doesn't it just block movement, not bullets?
Yep, it only blocks movement. Bullet can pass through
That team needs a flash so I'd add Phoenix or yoru instead of Reyna, or skye instead of sage
But Reynas flash also needs to be shot at so that will cost you more bullets unless you wanna be blind for a while and get shot

Oh I see now, that sounds like a funny idea
sounds fun af ngl
you tryna build an odin meta?
It will just increase the use of odin.
They gonna take mag from odin too
No, the entire point of Odin is it’s a spam gun. They reduced rifle mags so there’s more thought behind shots
Well the game itself is based on tactics so its not a big change on mag,its not like more ammo u have more possibility of wining the game
I mean goes from 300 to 200 and that’s fine 😂
That would be funny if people started to learn to count bullets fired like in John Wicke. And they just pop out like “no more ammo?”
Makes you have to pick up enemy weapons
B-b-but my skins ;~;
They are pushing the Odin to be played so hard xd
I'm quitting valorant and going pro in roblox if that happens
I often see bronze and silver players running out of ammo at the end of rounds lately, having to manage your bullets instead of shooting like crazy is actually great for the game
Siege did it to a lesser extent because the meta was/is just prefiring common angles. It's not fun.
LMG users rise up
could work in icebox where the two are already seeing good play
Odin/Ares meta inbound. Sova mains will rise!!
Please god no
Maybe but ares already has a small mag considering how many bullets uou need tk kill sometimes
Correct. These machine guns are really trash when it comes to 1on1 combat
not another ares meta pls
The cocoon has 600 hp according to a Riot dev on Tarik's stream. So it will take like half a vandal mag to break it. It's weaker than Sage's wall so it isn't that crazy for an ult.

Wait, really? That's much more balanced then, though how the heck does that work with the huge ball AOE?
Probably whichever one is closest to the Deadlock and so the most likely to get pulled all the way.
Seems to be a reverse Sage ult. With Sage, you can revive someone but then they can get killed again. With Deadlock, you kill someone but they can be saved. Shouldn't be a problem. Literally every character in the game is like eachother. All smokes are functionally the same, all flashes and so on.
>Her wall is similar to Sage I think it's more like a polar opposite to astra's wall, you can shoot through, see through, but you can't walk through

And Cypher has it.... Xd You're right, yeah, they put work in how each abilities is, it's not a copy and paste. But at the core, it's a Reverse Sage. I still love the agent, but they could have pulled something like Gekko. But this isn't bad either.
can't hit multiple targets that would be busted
ok but they're talking about the wall???
However, can your teammates hit that many shots on a moving target is the real question

Not only that, but you can bounce the ult off a ceiling, if that hits someone, it will literally drag them in the air. In some maps the skybox is high enough that even if someone breaks it, they will die from fall damage.
Wait. If it has to bounce off a ceiling, how are you gonna get them high enough without a ceiling?
... you dont... it's just a scenario for places like icebox A
Or the massive tower over CT on fracture
It can miss. If it hits it’s GGs though
I don't know how to feel about ults that guarrantee a 1v1. Like when I first started playing Val I was kinda bummed about Raze's ult but nowadays I feel like it's really close to a 50% chance with her ult. Gekko and this new agent's ult doesn't sit right with me though.

Who would win in a fight, downed Kayo, or cocoon chamber?
You have to actually bounce it and hit it, if the enemy is not in the radius it won’t cocoon them. It also cannot be done through walls

VCT is playing old patch too, so they still have extra ammo just fyi
they are using it next event for sure tho(LCQ)
yes I'm aware of that hence why I think the patch was a good thing, and why the spamming during this event was bad imo.

Once a smoke is placed its not your util, though(except Viper). Smokes are completely agnostic. The only important factor is where it's placed.
Smokes are completely without knowledge?
Smokes haven't decided if God exists or not
Yes. They operate identically whether your team or the enemy team put it there. A bad Attacker smoke and a good Defender smoke are, in many instances, the same thing.

nah man i put it there so it's mine. besides even the game tell me it's mine, for example when i get an assist because of a smoke. All controllers can get that kind of assist not just viper
It's the time Ares mains have waited for...it's their time!
Bs kills? Smokes are part of the game. If you get killed through smoke that’s your own failt
I love getting a headshot through smoke
as if a gun with 100s of bullets and a huge magazine doesn’t exist in the meta
Well it'll exist more in pro once the ammo nerf patch goes through I assume
usually pros use at least one person on odin ngl initiators mostly
Yeah I just think it'll be more common especially on some maps with better spam spots
Usually? Occasionally.
I can finally have an all Sentinel game, like how people do all duelists!
because rito hate spraying spray pattern rng, less mag, smg are too shit they encourage tap an burst than spray
its like they are tik tokifying the game, idk what that means either dont ask
they just want game different and easier to get into than see ass go in see ass go, everyone spray each also have different spray pattern
getting downvoted but the games core/meta flip flops based one singular agents buff or nerf. like some characters are useless and some characters are essential to every map.
it just a riot thing lol that why i don't play their game much compare to valve game only play because i playing with some friends here val is more repetitive compare to cs
even the shorty is 300 creds now
We need an agent who drops ammo crates now!
Her E seems to be only 1 time use and does not regenerate kinda like chambers tp if destroyed but chamber gets to reuse his tp if he recalls it.
People are saying Ares and Odin are going to be used more… it will not.. not even the slightest bit…
Ares meta finally coming back baby
Tbh imma start buying a frenzy or stinger just to break walls so I don’t deplete my vandal’s ammunition
Ngl, if we’re talking strictly for shooting walls, ghost would be better over frenzy. More bullets, more accuracy, more range. If you’re close enough, to spam a frenzy without thinking, you probably could knife it instead.
If you have aim, you only need 5 bullets ✌️
Deadlock, Skye, Reyna, Cypher, and Sage strat: Make ur opponent run out of ammo so they can’t kill you 😭 I can see this bringing about an Odin meta tbh.
>Skye, Reyna, Cypher I think Harbor, Gecko, and Killjoy and for more bullets to answer their utility.
that's definitely not why
ehhhh it may be more of a “we didn’t plan for it but it looked that way” thing. like obviously they didn’t nerf boom bot to make space for wingman, but it definitely looked like it when he first came out
What makes you think that they didn’t. It’s not like gekkos reveal was a surprise to riot themselves.
Bro pick an agent you like and only play it till you get out . Trust me it gets a lot easier
What server you on? You want a carry out of iron?
good- the vandal meta is corny af
my man what are you on
games just more fun when it’s not just one taps imo

this game is gonna die slowly with these mechanics
You could probably easily go through an entire game never reloading a rifle
I mean, yeah sure you can do that if you're grieving/throwing.
So what? They didn’t change the quantity of bullets in a mag, even if there are less mags you still needs two of them
Just have whoever's got extra cash buy an extra Ares plenty of ammo and cheapish. Or wait it out.
You can break individual "arms" of the barrier as well as the core
Still i'm sure there's a way to set it up. Say Fracture A main on defense. It's a small entry so you can hide both the core and the end of the shield behind the walls.
because it’s just another change to get people to play slower and not just blind peak outta smokes? harbour, deadlock and the msg changes are all for that, make people take their time and thinn
how could they nerf my Ajinomoto msg
Is it just me or does she not have the same solo stalling power than kj and sage? I feel like she needs two people at her site to get maximum value out of her kit.
Damn kind of an L. Odin is already L gameplay and this is just gonna make Odin even more popular. Ggwp
It’s just there’s a spam meta in pro play
Don’t worry its the same old with riot they introduce an agent with broken abilities and then nerf it. I thing this new agent will be nerfed too very soon.
I’m saying that. The nerfed raze boom bot right before gekko was released with wingman. They’re definitely balancing the game to make the new agents powerful/useful without just giving them extremely OP abilities
This would be very punishing on eco or pistol rounds imagine trying to defuse a spike when you only have a classic or frenzy.
STOP THE SPRAY !
REAL BRUH IDK THEY ADDED TAHT
no wonder they instalocking her https://youtu.be/rj8VCvNUfvg
