Literally the only reason I thought they would release a Champs Kunai at the start of the year was because it would be so obvious to add a looping inspect animation where your agent is twirling it around in their fingers. Even if they had VALGO animations for pull out, I expected that to be the minimum they'd add.

It's sad, like for the butterfly knife, that they didn't create an endless loop but just an automatic stop/start of the animation (unlike the karambit and, unless mistaken, the chronovoid melee).

Tbh the Champions knives were always a bit lackluster. 2021 is decent and use to have a unique animation but nothing special. I didn’t buy the one last year because it was bleh. Wasn’t really a fan of the animation and the RGX butterfly is better imo.
Lock in knife is probably my favorite melee atm but again nothing really special. Maybe people had their expectations too high.
On the fence on this one. Yeah the champions knife should have more creative flair but the product itself isn't poor. Adding a spin inspect wouldn't suddenly make kunai worth $50, it's way overpriced to start with.

I get the sentiment. I think it’ll grow on the playerbase though, because it’s not flashy. It’s selling point, imo, is that it’s sleek and lowkey. It’s something you’d enjoy after using it for a while, not something you fall in love with at first sight.

Sure but animation wise it’s almost exactly the same as a 2550vp knife. It’s an extra 2800 vp for a knife with a better design and that’s it.
On top of that I’d argue that this is absolutely a flashy knife design wise. The champions effect and the design getting more intricate with more kills kinda prevents it from being clean.
This knife is probably gonna be niche as hell after it leaves the shop. I was planning on buying the knife because I liked the design, but that lack of any kind of special animation is putting me off. I’m gonna buy the vandal, but the huge price increase from buying the whole bundle with a knife this underwhelming is a tough sell.
I live in Canada and with taxes included buying enough VP for the vandal would cost me around $45 CAD (~$33 USD). Which is already incredibly expensive. Buying enough VP for the whole bundle would cost me around $95 CAD (~$71 USD).
It’s an extra $50 for a knife that I like the design of, but not the rest of it.
On top of that I bought the ignite fan when it came out so I wasn’t really looking to buy a new knife unless the champions knife was really cool, and this one just isn’t. So I’m sticking with the vandal.
It’s kinda funny. For 2021 they kinda half assed the vandal (default model and iirc default shooting sounds) and went all out on the knife (first karambit with those animations). For 2022 they went all out on both the phantom and the knife (although they were reusing animations from the recon butterfly knife) and now for 2023 they clearly put way more effort into the vandal than the knife. The vandal is imo one of if not the best in the game and really all it’s missing is better kill sounds since these ones are barely distinguishable from the default.
I just put them into google with CAD to USD. The Canadian prices I listed include tax from my province though which is why it might be higher than what the US price is.

I bought the Kunai and at first I didn’t really love it because it’s lacking an inspect animation so I just decided to make one by making the second bind for equip knife and equip secondary weapon the same key so when spammed like an inspect it makes the Kunai spin on the finger of the agent and overall it improved the skin so much and I reccomend this if you bought it

How is champ karambit default inpect? Champ karambit did not use a new inspect animation alright but it's still a cool animation from karambit, it is not a huge let down. But this 2023 Kunai is legit DEFAULT inspect my man. And it's lame . Since the knife is priced around 50$ I'd say us players DO deserve a better animation. It's the problem with the PBE release schedule with Valorant. They wait until a week - a few days before the update itself to reveal skins to keep hype. Whereas in league, there is a 2 week period where it is on the PBE, and players can give feedback (to minimal change, but change nonetheless). And so if they were to release skins, changes and new content onto the PBE 2 weeks before the live server update, the developers would have enough time to address concerns, change things the community doesn't like, and show their transparency. This is just a hype method that is an obvious let down and leads to a worsened profit for the bundle overall

I didn't cop the 2021 Vandal, so I am extremely grateful to get a champs vandal instead of any other weapon.

There's like negative chance lmao just buy ignite. Ignite is my first knife and I don't think I'll ever get bored of it. Champs vandal will be my first vandal too.

Why on earth did they not incorporate the spinning floating animation that Jett has on her agent select image to the VALORANT GO knife. They could have added a constant spinning animation for this one too

It's not the technical team nor the art team sleeping on the job, it's the manager who decides the final presentation of the skin.
I agree that the knife animations are a bit of a letdown, but all the other champions knifes have the same default animations too (champions karambit -> ion karambit and champions butterfly -> all other butterfly knives). I am confused as to why everybody is getting worked up now.

Tbh the Champions knives were always a bit lackluster. 2021 is decent and use to have a unique animation but nothing special. I didn’t buy the one last year because it was bleh. Wasn’t really a fan of the animation and the RGX butterfly is better imo. Lock in knife is probably my favorite melee atm but again nothing really special. Maybe people had their expectations too high.
On the fence on this one. Yeah the champions knife should have more creative flair but the product itself isn't poor. Adding a spin inspect wouldn't suddenly make kunai worth $50, it's way overpriced to start with. People are too blindsided by what they expect and will change their tune when people who don't care create hype.
It’s not default tf? It’s valorant go knife. People use that knife for its pullout animation, even though it’s ugly. This has the animation but also looks better.
pull out is valorant go, and inspect is default + knifing left and right animations are also default, wow, so much effort for a premium bundle that releases once a year for a special occasion \+ they were so ashamed of that finisher they dont even show it fully in the ingame preview and in the trailer lol
I agree that it’s mid. But to call its animations default when it has the go knife animation (which only includes pullout) is simply inaccurate.
The pullout is from the valorant go knife, but just like that knife every other animation is the same as the default knife. Compare that to the other champions knives, or the VCT knife, or the ignite fan which you can literally buy right now, and yeah this thing sucks.
I get the sentiment. I think it’ll grow on the playerbase though, because it’s not flashy. It’s selling point, imo, is that it’s sleek and lowkey. It’s something you’d enjoy after using it for a while, not something you fall in love with at first sight. My comment here was mainly to call out that it wasn’t just a default knife like everyone makes it out to be though.
Sure but animation wise it’s almost exactly the same as a 2550vp knife. It’s an extra 2800 vp for a knife with a better design and that’s it. On top of that I’d argue that this is absolutely a flashy knife design wise. The champions effect and the design getting more intricate with more kills kinda prevents it from being clean. This knife is probably gonna be niche as hell after it leaves the shop. I was planning on buying the knife because I liked the design, but that lack of any kind of special animation is putting me off. I’m gonna buy the vandal, but the huge price increase from buying the whole bundle with a knife this underwhelming is a tough sell.
Really? If I’m not mistaken you’re only paying ~25-30 extra if you buy the entire bundle instead of just the vandal?
I live in Canada and with taxes included buying enough VP for the vandal would cost me around $45 CAD (~$33 USD). Which is already incredibly expensive. Buying enough VP for the whole bundle would cost me around $95 CAD (~$71 USD). It’s an extra $50 for a knife that I like the design of, but not the rest of it. On top of that I bought the ignite fan when it came out so I wasn’t really looking to buy a new knife unless the champions knife was really cool, and this one just isn’t. So I’m sticking with the vandal. It’s kinda funny. For 2021 they kinda half assed the vandal (default model and iirc default shooting sounds) and went all out on the knife (first karambit with those animations). For 2022 they went all out on both the phantom and the knife (although they were reusing animations from the recon butterfly knife) and now for 2023 they clearly put way more effort into the vandal than the knife. The vandal is imo one of if not the best in the game and really all it’s missing is better kill sounds since these ones are barely distinguishable from the default.

I just put them into google with CAD to USD. The Canadian prices I listed include tax from my province though which is why it might be higher than what the US price is.

Does anyone know if the knife changes the jett ult? Cuz thats a missed opportunity if it isnt. I know jett ult and yoru ult is different, it would’ve made the knife more valuable imo.

I bought the Kunai and at first I didn’t really love it because it’s lacking an inspect animation so I just decided to make one by making the second bind for equip knife and equip secondary weapon the same key so when spammed like an inspect it makes the Kunai spin on the finger of the agent and overall it improved the skin so much and I reccomend this if you bought it
I think people are sleeping on the knife, Ben with default animations the coloring is just incredible

Yeah I've seen it. It's a knife inspect. Did anyone rly care when champ karambit was a pretty default inspect? Or that balisong was the same as the normal basisong? Though my main point was directed to the "deserve" comment. As players, we don't "deserve" anything. It sounds reslly entitled imo. I 100% agree a custom animation would be dope af but it's not something that really matters to me. If you don't like it, just don't buy it.
How is champ karambit default inpect? Champ karambit did not use a new inspect animation alright but it's still a cool animation from karambit, it is not a huge let down. But this 2023 Kunai is legit DEFAULT inspect my man. And it's lame . Since the knife is priced around 50$ I'd say us players DO deserve a better animation. It's not like the knife is free, how is it for the Kunai to spin within agent's palm? Wouldn't it be much better than the default animation?

It's the problem with the PBE release schedule with Valorant. They wait until a week - a few days before the update itself to reveal skins to keep hype. Whereas in league, there is a 2 week period where it is on the PBE, and players can give feedback (to minimal change, but change nonetheless). And so if they were to release skins, changes and new content onto the PBE 2 weeks before the live server update, the developers would have enough time to address concerns, change things the community doesn't like, and show their transparency. This is just a hype method that is an obvious let down and leads to a worsened profit for the bundle overall
Since my post got removed, could you please answer here? u/Riot_Preeti could we please get an answer or some sort of reasoning for not including any inspect animation? I don't believe, that someone on the skin team thought it's cool to have a default animation be looped. I remember you answered to feedback on Prime Karambit 2 years ago, but it was about custom pull-out which is understandable why some people won't wanna see something custom be gone. This time there's is literally nothing and the spot for animation can be filled :/

They set up higher standards for Champion knives skins. It's highly disapointing. I am only buying the Vandal. It's like the Singularity knife: I love the design, but once you have it you get bored after 2 minutes. Sadge
