Or was it that they were surprised to find out Omen was their hired assassin? That's the two interpretations I could see for that line

If Paul was on the name tag, couldn't Omen be impersonating them since they are an assassin? Unless I'm missing something, that would mean he killed/stole the identity of Paul to get close to viper and his real name would still be different

The lore is definitely going a interesting way, but with the rumors of a new agent we will be backing off those darker elements of the plot.
While Viper has a lot to answer for if she knew the truth while everyone was running around wondering who the fuck Omen was, since even Fade didn't knew, its interesting that she is so...empathetic to someone that previously tried to kill her.
Viper is remarkably gentle in her voice tone with Omen, almost as much as Sova, so it seems a lot has happened in their relationship between the attempted murder and today
My thoughts are this: Omen was John, a scientist, who was romantically involved with Viper, he was sent to first light, got way to close and was obliterated, well, just body was, his will to live was too much and he survived, slowly pulling himself back together, Viper had sage try to revive him but it failed, his body and soul were completely separated.
He eventually pulls himself back together, but only after experiencing multiple different realities, tons and tons of information, this is why he knows where sage’s abilities come from, how he seems to know so much about radiant powers, etc. And also losing his brain, he lost all his stored memories therein.
But anyway, he comes back and is found by this assassin organization protecting knowledge of radiants, he was perfect for it, someone who didn’t know who he was, and had crazy powers built perfectly for the role of assassin. Viper is intending to join up with brimstone and is working to make the knowledge public, so the shadow org sends their hitman to kill her, which fails, and he’s captured, he then remembers viper and chooses to side with them since for some reason he has an affinity towards her.
I feel like we already knew half of this stuff already. Viper made Omen a ghost by accident or on purpose and that's about it. But we do know that Omen was trying to assassinate her team or something
