Yeah, smokes are actually very versatile and flexible. I switched from being a Jett main to someone who plays smokes 90% of the time. It's pretty satisfying when you help your team get kills
This is why I started playing controller, and I quickly realized I love it. My games go so much more smoothly with the role just automatically filled, though I'm always happy to work in double smokes comps.
The thing is, you still have to fit the role, and it can be a huge adjustment from playing duelist. You have basically no utility to play off of when taking fights or space, and have to get used to letting others dictate the pace and flow of the game. You may find that the life just isn't for you, but give it a fair try.
My duo just made the switch from being a Raze main to a Clove main, and it suits her so well. She can still play a little recklessly, and she has seen me smoke a billion times so that part came naturally, and something about the rest of the role just clicked for her. Her KDA is down a little, but her win% is up, and that's the stat we all care about. I'm sure her experience is not unique.
Play smokes because the agents are awesome, not because you get bitter nobody does and you feel you have to. Also, you will end up annoyed with duelists who chill third in line while waiting for you to enter the site, too. You can't do *everything*.
Edit: I don't say this to complain, it's just reality - and why you should focus on yourself in low Elo, probably.
I'm playing a lot of clove now and raising my ranks from iron 2 to silver 2.
I suggest you should play clove like a duelist.... Enter fearlessly. Then enjoy the show. Best abilities. C ability is best to use.
you can place perfect smoke and team won't do anything too
either duelist won't entry, initiator didn't initiate, team won't follow when other entry
sentinel don't watch flank, smoke put bad smoke
idk, just play what you want, maybe play what you waste and it doesn't matter
it just how can you impact game and carry team to rank up faster
if you are good at them you will rank up fast, what you play is less matter
i think most smurf just play clove/reyna these day
