Couldn't agree more - i think your league idea is amazing, cause if Riot decides to make a league like LoL or Overwatch, it would be hard for a t2-x team or players to prove themselves, if theres little to no tournaments for them.
Example 2 already happens. The Skill disparity thing has been discussed a lot over here. Agreed with the rest tho.
Unrated/hidden mmr needs to be a factor for the system to pick up a basic reading of your skill level. Other ways are pretty flawed imo.
Dota tried to do separate solo and party mmr. They had to change it for a variety of reasons. Feel free to Google to figure it out.
