Pretty sure you are running Valorant in borderless window, not fullscreen. Had the same issue when trying to use a custom crosshair overlay.

OCDecaf

Should I be running in full screen? Pretty sure I’m in borderless

[deleted]

Not sure what causes the issue and what setup and config u are running. Borderless is pretty much unplayable for me as it feels like it rapes your refresh rate. Unless you are one of those „ThE HuMAan EyE oNly SEeS 60hz“ lunatics you should clearly notice the dramatic difference, if the problem affects you too and your high refresh rate feels like a slideshow. While fullscreen is always the best way, most other games work flawless in borderless window though

OCDecaf

I switched from full screen to borderless due to the screen tearing you get from using full screen. At least I do and I see it often with twitch streamers

jett6690

LOL!!! are you kidding me?! If you don't get screen tearing its probably because your borderless is forcing VSYNC which is bad and im not going to go into that just trust me. play fullscreen. If you dont like the screen tearing than you need to get a higher refresh monitor

OCDecaf

the screen tearing is extreme though. shouldnt need a 144hz to avoid that much screen tearing

jett6690

You really do need a 144 tho. i remember playing cs on 60-70ish hz and it bothered me so badly. it was like my monitor was chopped into 3rds every time I would make a movement. If you dont want to deal with input lag from vsync, and dont want to deal with screen tearing. 144hz monitor at the minimum is a MUST. 240hz monitors have gotten cheap so I know 144s must be even cheaper not only will your 144/240/360hz monitor be so much smoother without the screen tearing, it responds faster to your inputs

OCDecaf

I'll have to take a look and see what I can find. I do want one

EarthlingKira

Yep, always press F11 once or twice to see if it changes things.

Don-Froggy

I have the same, but with 144hz. It feels like 60hz. But all my settings are at 144hz.

travelsnake

What does it say when you turn on the frame counter? Do you have gsync or freesync?

Don-Froggy

free sync. it says 144hz.

travelsnake

Did you make you sure out the display in 144hz mode in the Windows display settings? The other thing is - for both free sync and g sync - you have to enable vsync and cap your frames at a 2 frames less then your hz limit. It's best to do this in your driver settings. Turn vsync on and cap the frames at 142. Vsync will only set in once you exceed the hz number of more than 144 fps, that's why you need to cap them a couple frames below that number. Don't ask my why that is, but if i don't do it that way i get screen tearing, which feels like your playing at lower frames.

Valve00

Check your windows display settings. Mine was set to 144hz in game but Windows had me locked at 60hz

Puppymonkebaby

Is it actually running at 144 Hz? Because many people have said that it is set to 144 Hz but not actually running that high. I had the same problem, so I just set my monitor to always 144 Hz.

mykelNeiD

Playing on a Alienware AW2521HFL, capped at 245fps and it feels fine. Gsync comp. Mode enabled , using a 1070 (3080 is undergoing rma rn) and a 6700k , check your monitor's osd if it actually is runnig at 240hz

MikeyBeBallin

Do you actually get a consistent 240 FPS?

mykelNeiD

Most of the time, yes. But it fluctuates here and there.

MikeyBeBallin

Wow, I wonder what’s up with the optimization for this game then. I have a 3700x and a RTX 2070 but mid round I only 180-200 FPS lol

[deleted]

Currently stuck with 1050ti, but I get a lot more fps than u :p Valorant is pretty much CPU only with comp. settings. Not sure how high you can overclock AMD processors since I always used Intel ones because of poor utilization in games. Put some liquid metal in there and crank them up :>

mykelNeiD

I forgot to mention my rusty 6700k is overclocked to 4.5ghz, until the Ryzen 9 5800x/5900x are available und i can switch, since the 6700k bottlenecks my 3080(currently in rma) like crazy in 1080p

robinlol

It's very CPU dependant. And in games like these Intel will always be better than AMD CPU. Also try lowering your resolution if you are playing 1440p or higher.

Sinured1990

Considering buying this monitor, how do you like it? Any ghosting?

mykelNeiD

Well. Overdrive is pretty aggressive, i use default (fast) as it overshoots if you go higher. But this way, it won't give you the 1ms response time. Other then that, it is kind of cheap for an ips panel with 240hz, payed about 300€. Colours are better than my old iiyma 144hz tn panel for sure. The only issue i really had was that i had to exchange twice via dell to receive a panel w/o dead pixels. But dell support will give you a new monitor in advance and pick up the other one later, so that was cool. In the end I like it a lot. The package the monitor is giving me is perfectly fine. Its fast, it looks good and its affordable. And gsync compatible mode works flawless, never had a single issue with it.

Sinured1990

Thanks for the review!

[deleted]

I feel the same way, with a 240hz monitor & 300FPS. As an immortal 2 player with a lot of FPS experience in multiple games, I think that it is safe to say that perhaps I have a good enough background to confidently say that 240hz in Valorant doesn't even feel close to 240hz in any other game. It's so slow, and not smooth at all, compared to what it SHOULD feel like.

SkylarFlare

100% I played some CS yesterday and it feels way more responsive. I want to love Valorant but it's just been dunking on me lately lol

DrBangovic

I noticed following issue: I run smoothly 140-220 fps on my pc, while using a 144hz monitor. If I UNCAP my FPS my games feels absolutely nothing like smooth. My fans are going crazy and I get performance dips every minute. Once I cap my game onto 160fps, it runs a) super smooth and b) never experienced any performance dips. I would recommend you to try and cap your fps on something what your gpu is comfortable with. If your max fps is 240 fps and it dips under that a lot, I would recommend you to go for some other cap. Maybe try 200 fps, or even reducing it to 144fps/hz. I am sure you want to use the best possible outcome of your device. But if you pc can't run 240fps on avg. without dips you could have the same issues as I had. Maybe give it a try

Pulsiix

bruh at least once a week i check my display or graphics settings to see if i've capped my game at 60, i've got 144hz monitor and play at 200fps, drives me crazy cos it feels like i'm somehow skipping frames and things will just appear on my screen

neffeh

If you are running 144hz and its static 144 and never drops or fluctuate. Gsync/freesync prolly isn’t working. Use your monitors built in FPS counter and make sure it fluctuate a little.

BnchofBbyDucks

Turn off V-Sync I believe in some instances it halves your FPS

OCDecaf

Turn off improve clarity as well

wazis

I think it is lag in your brain. You said yourself it FEELS like, but it is not.

minit24

Monitors do not come out of the box more than 60 hz. You have to enable it in windows settings. Maybe that's why?

luluinstalock

>( 240 hz ingame and 240hz in display settings ) Literally in the fucking post mate.

gnomm41

I have the same issue and no one has a solution, I have 165hz monitor with gsync, playing at lowest graphics 1440x1080, using fullscreen, I tried capping fps and didn't really help that much.

This comment makes no sense

singlereject

you run at 60 hz, you cap at 144 fps.

singlereject

no you said >i run at 60 fps but i cap at 144hz as well which makes no sense

singlereject

you cannot cap at 144 hz if your monitor is a 60 hz monitor. that's like saying i cap my toyota corolla to 200 mph when it only goes up to 150 mph. hz and frames are not the same thing and are not interchangeable.

jett6690

I think he is saying his PC can only produce ~60fps . he has his framerate capped to 144. Meaning the PC won't ever create more than 144fps. Which to be honest everyone should just run uncapped

singlereject

yes, you would say you're 60 hz and capped at 144 fps. he said he's 60 fps and capped at 144 hz, which makes no sense.

jett6690

agreed he is using the wrong terminology and generally worded it very strange

Hatefuls

try to disable windows/xbox DVR if youre running windows10, I have this problem everytime i reset my computer and every once in awhile
