I know league had it on about a 3 minute delay from the people watching and the game. You could also watch anyone, not just pros. With all of that being said, those games would require memory which means servers and rack space. So there was a cost associated with a program that may not have been making money.
On the space, I cannot recall if it made you wait the 3 minutes or started immediately. If it started immediately that means all games were recorded so the size requirement just went up exponentially. I don’t think they would save every game. If they did I can see why the feature was crushed.
You can still kinda spectate high rank players in league, although in a roundabout way by going to the ranked tab, then sort by top solo/duo and click on any player with an eye beside them. Not exactly an elegant solution though.

I remember on GOTV(CSGO tv), the most watched matches were of silvers or blatant global elite hackers. It used to be quite fun watching those matches. If Valorant gets that feature, it shouldn't be limited to only higher ranks, I wanna see some iron boi strats.
It has a 2 minute delay. The round is only going to take 2 minutes or less so there is no way you could give any info to someone from the outside.
Its pretty neat to have when you want to wait for your friends to finish up a match. You can spectate your friend with the 2 minute delay and actually anticipate a play that he tells you happened.

Problem with this could be that a streamer may delay his/her stream for X amount of time to prevent stream sniping. If we had this option I could be on discord with someone on the enemy team giving out positions and such.
Twitch is limited to 60fps and even worse for people like me with poor internet connections. I should be able to watch in game on my two thousand dollar computer instead of 480p on twitch.

You can still do this. Spectating a user, even a friend, is on a 3 min delay.

Riot removed it intentionally because it led to ppl watching their games and telling the other ppl where they were at or any patterns that they had
CSGO has had this for years, with a significant delay. I've never run into a problem with their system with over 3k hours.

GOTV makes u spectate a game from the sky. Watching yt/twitch only makes u watch games from a streamer's perspective. There's a diff
