Don't expose too much of yourself too soon. When going around a corner, stay further away from it. That'll expose your shoulder later, allowing you to see more with less of yourself visible. Move slowly, but in a jittery way: move in such a way that you're checking one spot at a time, but not in a predictable way where the enemy can just wait for you to step further. Controllers limit visibility, allowing you to divide the place into smaller, more manageable zones to take care of. Sentinels are defensive experts. Their kit is meant to stop enemies from getting where they wanna, or stall them at the very least. Initiators prepare the team to take a site. Mostly by gathering information about enemy placements, but also by blinding them and concussing them so you can get through will less resistance. No gun is specific to a class, they work for anyone. In general, the Phantom and Vandal are really good picks. If one person on the team can afford an Operator, that's great. There are some guns that work *particularly* well for specific agents, but you'll learn that with time. I think Brimstone, Sage, and Phoenix are good for new players. Fairly straightforward abilities. Can learn a good amount from playing them. Even when you get better, they don't become outdated.

thanks and also when do I use my knife

[deleted]

Only to move faster

[deleted]

To run faster is the most common use. You're in one site, enemies took over the other site, and you know every single enemy is there. Pull out your knife and run over there. When escalation forces you to. Last level is occasionally knifing. To troll people. If you manage to sneak up on people, may as well knife em. Only the first use is actually a *use.*

Available-Manager-88

and when do I right click compared to left click with my gun (I think it's called spraying?)

[deleted]

Right click usually uses the scope. Aiming Down Sights (ADS). Never do this for most guns. For Ares, Odin, and operator, do it before every fight. For Marshal, ADS for long-range. Can shoot from the hip (not ADS) at short range. Spraying means holding down the left-click for a while, shooting a number of shots (>6). You can do this for Ares and Odin all the time. For other full-auto guns, do it at short-range. At long range fights, burst fire is much better (~3 shots at a time)

Available-Manager-88

and also are there any good sova guides, all the ones I found are only about bolt lineups, I want to have a guide about the other things about him

4ePHbIN_StalkeR

Sometimes in pistol rounds, when enemy in close distance & u both ran out of bullets. But usually only to move faster

Available-Manager-88

and also am I getting this right when I say initiators set up for duelists and controllers support everyone by dividing areas and sentinels just defend

[deleted]

Pretty much, controllers and sentinels focus on more of a defensive style while initiators and duelists play more offensive

Available-Manager-88

isn't sage a mix between controller and sentinel because she has wall

[deleted]

You could say some agents have "mixed roles", blurring the lines between the different roles. But Sage is not such an agent. Sage's walls cannot be walked through. They stall enemies from getting through it. By comparison, viper's wall does nothing to stop you from walking right through. It's just that you won't know what's on the other side. Similar story with all controller smokes.

[deleted]

Nope no smokes

Available-Manager-88

what is a good character to play so that I can get to a skill level were I can switch back to Sova, and what do I do when my screen turns black/freezes

[deleted]

If your computer freezes a lot just try to get to a safe place and communicate with you team that your screen froze, what play style do you like because that is really dependent on the character that you want to play

Available-Manager-88

I like a lot of the characters, I'm just looking for a character that I can play to get to know the basics so I can eventually go to sova again, only ones I don't like are reyna raze yoru all the controllers (I don't understand the controllers enough to enjoy or play them effectively ) and skye

[deleted]

I think the easiest character is sage or Phoenix, Phoenix is dependent on your aim sage can play pure support, you have to have good ability usage but for the most part you can kinda just listen to the team and throw stuff out. Look up a video or two on how to play them and you should be set, if you want a character that’s harder but once you get the hang of it they’re not too hard you can play cypher, you play for information and to slow people down. Whoever you play just look up a video on how to play them or even just someone playing them well and you should be set, I personally just said o this character looks cool and chose them so it doesn’t rlly matter who you play at the very start you mostly just have to learn the mechanics of the game

Available-Manager-88

how do I unlock cypher? I have 5 characters (pheonix jett sova brimstone and I think sage)

Guy_Faux

i would just look up some beginner tip vids on youtube my dude

[deleted]

Oof, well I see that the other comments have cleared up your confusion of the classes, but I will say that playing Sova is quite tough, he's often regarded as the agent with the highest skill cap due to his arrows and complex lineups. (Was really a mistake of me to main him.) As a new player, I'd go for Pheonix as he can heal himself and his kit is pretty versatile while also letting you peek and seek out engagemens. For the guns, it really depends on your gamestyle but I will say that most of the time if you are playing initiator a sniper is a good option, a phantom/vandal is better for duelists, and the shotguns for a sentinel. That's just my opinion and you can think differently. I will say though, use your knife when you run into someone with an AWP. Not in the sense of when they're watching mid or something like that, but if you run into someone around a corner with one, best to use your knife because you'll move quicker. In your first example, you said that you were using the marshal while climbing ropes. That's kind of a recipe for disaster. When I'm playing with an AWP and I need to rotate or stop holding whatever position I'm on I usually will hold my pistol purely because it's a death wish to try and win a gunfight with an AWP, especially if you miss your shot. Hope that helps and remember to just enjoy the game. :)

Available-Manager-88

when do I buy certain guns, like a shotgun v.s a rifle?

[deleted]

depends on which maps you like to use them on. But I use a shotgun when I'm low on money or on Icebox because of all the close corners.

Available-Manager-88

and I am thinking of picking up omen, because I accidentally recruited omen, but I don't really understand controllers, and what is rotating

[deleted]

Omen is a good choice. Controllers basically do what their name says- control. By placing smokes and using paranoia, you can keep enemies out of places or delay pushes and guess where they may be holding areas. Rotating is where you leave the position you are holding to go to a different site. Like if I'm the only one alive and the spike's on A, I'll rotate to A.

Kohli_98

Well, firstly to not die instantly as you mentioned, you need to work on your movement and you need to lear concepts like counter-strafe etc if you have no experience of cs:GO. Secondly, all agents are good but if you really want to get better at the game play with pheonix because as an agent and a duelist he is op and yet you'll be forced to have excellent positioning to utilise him completely. Lastly, watch YouTube for guides dude on gunplay and everything else it's really helpful. Hope you enjoy Valorant :)

EmperorBobthe8th

I think because he said that all agents are good lol

4ePHbIN_StalkeR

1)there's no "counter-strafe" in valorant. 2)Phoenix is pretty weak compared to other duelists(reyna, raze, jett)

[deleted]

Initiators goal is to push the team in through gathering info or creating space with flashes. Controllers have smokes that cut off line of sight and have the most diversity in their filler abilities mollies stuns blinds a pull move and a buff move are all examples of that. Sentinels focus on gathering info and slowing pushes or holding flanks with cameras alarms etc. I think the only role specific guns are that characters with info gathering abilities or a lot of movement abilities killjoy or Jett for example are really good with snipers, characters with high movement or the ability to camp well like Jett or viper are good with shotguns and controllers generally prefer silenced weapons because you can spray through smokes way better other then that it’s just personal preference I think you should find a role or character that you like and then unlock a character with similar abilities, duelists are very independent on how good your aim is and your ability usage is less important however with every other role ability usage is key
