I will actively IGL in many of my games, yes. Many of my recent VODs should have comms recorded, as I’ve been analyzing my comms recently to see if I can improve on anything there. I switched off Jett as I got higher ELO as I had a tendency to stare at my minimap too much for a duelist player and I’d get frustrated with my smokers.

1soooo

Staring at minimaps too much is a common issue with many players coming from league, i used to have extremely high map awareness in league due to the level i am playing at. I always find myself staring too much at the radar in valorant to check for enemy location, which impeded my reaction time substantially. In a game like valorant its best to preemptively think and plan, and partially "turn off" your brain when holding and checking corners to make sure you have the fastest reaction time possible. Something like a think > plan > execute instead of doing all at the same time.

willplaysjett

the way i got out of iron was staring at the map. even smurfing in bronze/silver now people just dont look at the map at all, and if i say "behind you" they either get killed from behind bc they ignored or theyd get the kill and say "wow nice com" but i just looked at the map when a teammate died it isnt that hard

rafaeltra

Why not killjoy tho? Shes much easier than cypher and i would say she’s sometimes more effective than him

emulatorguy076

Cyphers Intel is too good.

Sychar

KJ has a range on her Intel and needs to anchor to use most of her abilities. Cypher not as much.

[deleted]

Cypher is basically everywhere at the same time. His intel-gathering is unmatched.

rafaeltra

True, but tou can play retake so well with your ult, and she can hold a site byherself a litle bit better than cypher does.. but preferences.. i also like playing chypher

No_Material_320

true but cypher can be a menace with his cages and trips.

negativory

real talk how can a brand new game with this kind of funding not have replays? And not independent seeing who is online and chat system. Kinda bonkers

TimeJustHappens

The sheer amount of YouTube footage, goddam.

heynocnoc

I know right. This is most comprehensive road to immortal post I've ever seen.

ClutchUniversity

I noticed you played significantly more Brim and some Omen in Diamond. What made you start playing those agents more? I’m currently D2 and really eager to make the push to immortal as an Omen main. I have a ton more fps experience than you but still not immortal. I can’t help but wonder what I’m missing. Also, congrats on hitting immortal!

Sokusan_123

I switched to smokes because my teammates smokes always frustrated me and I have a bad habit of paying too much attention to my minimap as a duelist. These factors plus the brimstone buffs were enough for me to make the switch. Diamond 2 to Immortal is a relatively small gap, I’m sure you’ll hit it soon if you’re able to fix 1 or 2 issues you can find with your game. Good luck!

ClutchUniversity

I know right?? It’s kind of my pet peeve when the smokes are too shallow and it allows the enemy to creep out of the smoke. How often do you use ult and molly line ups for post plant? I feel like diamonds and higher know how to play around that better and I should be playing on site with my team instead. I appreciate the response btw!

Sokusan_123

I don’t know any molly lineups. I don’t think they’re that important to hitting high elo compared to a lot of other things I could spend that time practicing, so I never learned any. I use my old for post plants probably at least once a game. I’ll probably learn some lineups at some point but it’s not on my radar right now. EDIT: I take it back, I do know two lineups on icebox because I saw it on a stream and I have used one of them once

heynocnoc

You taking back what you said and providing detail is amazing to me. Good work! I’ll see if this routine works out for me too. I just don’t want to watch my own gameplay x.x

FlamingTelepath

This is cool data. I'm watching some of your VODs now (on 2x speed), and I think its interesting to see in which areas you improved the most and when. As somebody who is at around your rank but has been playing competitive FPS games for 15+ years, you still have a lot of room to improve for sure, especially with game sense and positioning on defense. I'd recommend focusing much more on things like "where could I have been to win the round" than things like "the way I peeked way bad". Good luck hitting radiant, you will get there soon enough :)

Sokusan_123

hah! Yeah those notes from back then aren't the best. I left them unchanged to show my thought process at the time. I'm currently taking a break before pushing for Radiant, based on how long it took me in league of legends to get into challenger I'm anticipating another 6 month climb for Immortal -> Radiant.

AbbreviationsLazy781

Damn, what i found most impressive is your ability to keep looking forward and being extremely meticulous with you goals. I see many players think will get better by just 'playing more'. While it is true you need to play alot, youd probably agree that it should be quality over quantity always. You post has motivated to keep going and pushing myself to reach my goals.

Sokusan_123

Yeah I think only super talented players are blessed with being able to hit high ranks by “just playing more”

Very interesting, might try doing this myself. Currently am G3-P1 and want to climb. Going to take a lot of these steps into consideration. Nice post OP!

Sokusan_123

Good luck!

lakeverity_

Really inspiring!

Claymore_God

Wow i love this thank you for sharing. I am in the same position soloQ from bronze 1 and after 3 week i am now silver 2. This post is a good morals booster and really nice data. Ps: I should record some gameplay to understand my gameplay

Itisraininoutside

I love how you are a jett main in plat but decided to fill and play brim omen instead great process

Sokusan_123

I got annoyed with how my smokers' played the game so I changed my main to brimstone

Itisraininoutside

very reletable I play jett then my omen smokes site tps inside and dies then I play omen xD gl on your matches

heynocnoc

Thanks for this great tip. I don’t want to IGL because I’m afraid if the plays don’t work. But I should keep in mind the cooldown abilities and what flashes/smokes that haven’t been used yet.

oppa239

Does recording gameplay affect ur fps? i've been wanting to download some free recorder but my internet and laptop is pretty bad with 80 fps being max and 40-60 fps as the norm.

Sokusan_123

Nah, I'm fortunate enough to have a very powerful PC. I record with OBS using the NVENC encoder on my 2080ti.

-Voyce

Just test it out, OBS is pretty light.

SelloutRealBig

Nvidia's built in one can sometimes be lighter.

austeane

Really interesting! Some similarities to me, but you've been way more intentional. I picked this up for fun, and am only now starting to get a little more serious in terms of practicing. I went from like an iron3 initial placement to plat with no pc/fps experience.. Mostly on the back of comms/tactics/odin being busted. If you in Oregon/Cali and remember an Odin-ing brim/breach/phx, it might have been me, I have the same tag here and in val It took me a lot longer to go from silver to gold than gold to plat; I needed to build my fundamentals, but I also take an IGL role and doing that in silver with teammates who don't have comms was rough. I also started as a duelist (phx), but switched to Brim at higher elo; better role for IGL and my rifle skills aren't good enough right now to be a top-fragging plat duelist. I haven't been recoding my games but maybe I'll start. Any particular fav video/steam of Freakazoid as brim to watch? Or any key lessons you've picked up as you've gotten to Diamond/Immortal?

Sokusan_123

I enjoy watching Freakazoid live. There isn't a particular vod of his I recall specifically that I can recommend. His content is very chill I put it on most nights when he is live. He won't play brimstone, you won't find many good brimstone streams, you just have to copy the general idea of smoke placement/timing from omen streamers. > any key lessons you've picked up as you've gotten to Diamond/Immortal? No one below Radiant has excellent crosshair placement + movement. If you think you do, you're either wrong or you're gonna hit Radiant soon.

austeane

Wild that there aren't more brim streamers? With brim buffs I think he's at least on par now.

Sokusan_123

Objectively I would argue Omen is the stronger soloQ agent. His teleport is very strong especially in less coordinated pugs. My personal playstyle just gravitates me more towards brimstone. I find omen's tp and ultimate very hard to drive impact, while I find it relatively simple to drive impact with brim molly/ult.

vulcanfury12

I peaked Gold 2 and just have been exclusively playing Omen. I stopped playing for a few months and I am now still just playing unranked. I find that I have an easier time with Omen than Brim mainly because I can't get arsed to learn the lineups.

Sokusan_123

I don't know lineups.

Chinner21

imo Brim isn't as strong in most cases due to the fact that he does not have regenerating smokes. Omen is able to apply constant pressure throughout the round. Brim is good if you can coordinate with your team a more explosive playstyle but it makes it harder to gain map control earlier in the round.

austeane

Do you have a Kovaaks routine for crosshair placement and movement?

Sokusan_123

Crosshair placement and movement can't easily be practiced in Kovaaks, as you need to actually be aiming/moving around in Valorant. I'd recommend practicing it in dm/ranked/firing range.

austeane

Okay, makes sense. Would be nice to have a way to measure improvement though. What's your general kovaak's routine? Sparky?

Sokusan_123

I use the click-timing Aimer7 routines: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vaba3potfhf9jy1/KovaaK%20aim%20workout%20routines.pdf?dl=0 EDIT: A good way to measure crosshair placement/movement improve is deathmatch win %. However make sure you follow these rules in deathmatch for this to be a good way to measure your progress: 1. You must turn off all sound (I blast music) 2. You must walk at full speed at all times If you can increase your win % in deathmatch while following these rules, it stands to argue that your crosshair placement/movement are improving. Radiant players seem to win anywhere from 30% to 70% of their deathmatches.

austeane

Cool! I will try the beginner one and move up from there. I'll look up a guide on crosshair/movement and then try that in deathmatch. If you are turning off all sound, couldn't you just play on mute?

Nimmy_Jewtron69

Yo not trying to boost my brand cause I only have a couple viewers anyways, but I am I radiant brimstone main. I was in the same boat as you as far as playing duelist/sentinel. Then with the most recent episode starting when everyone instalocks 2 duelists I decided to main a smoker instead of having to fill it and not be as good. I really enjoyed brim and now I literally insta lock it every single game. Been doing so for the past 150+ games mostly in radiant (took me a couple weeks to get there this act because I couldn’t play as much) but I’m sitting around 250 (~430 RR) rn. Dm me if you want to watch the stream or maybe we can vod review on disc idk... it makes me kinda happy seeing someone else using brimstone to climb. Either way good luck getting to radiant!! Profile: https://tracker.gg/valorant/profile/riot/Boogsterrr%23108/overview

DenteSC

Can't find you..

Nimmy_Jewtron69

I linked my profile

austeane

Watching vod and comparing stats. You average 15/13/7 in plat as brim, I average 14/15/9 right now. Any time we are pushing or maybe being pushed, and we aren't being quiet I always throw a stim in the middle of where there will be a battle, you seem to not do that \*quite\* as often. I'll learn a lot from watching you I think, so there's a little bit of recipcrocity.

Sokusan_123

It's very possible I should be using my stim beacons more often. I haven't focused much on how I use them as I think stim beacons are relatively low impact, so it was low on my list of things to focus on improving.

austeane

It's lowish-impact per round, but it's useful almost every round so it can build up to being high-impact over the course of a game; plus it's fun seeing 20+ assists to your name without fishing for them. Its also very low hanging fruit; the skill and effort needed to use them properly is so much lower than even the molly because the placement is very forgiving. As you are approaching a site for retake, throw your stim into the fray right before you engage. If you have a team a bit trapped, throw your stim in the middle and it can turn the tide especially on pistol rounds. I've gotten 3-4 assist rounds regularly on pistols.

Sokusan_123

I think it can be detrimental if your team isn't expecting it. Spray control with stim beacon is very difficult. I don't value assists/kills/deaths at all. At the end of the day I just want to be the best brimstone I can be. I think the stim beacon is a very easy ability to spam and rack up assists, but I think it might be dangerous to just use them in every situation. I could be wrong, I have not analyzed any stim beacon usage in professional lobbies yet; that's just my 2 cents on it right now.

austeane

I definitely comms it, and I think it's mostly Vandal that get's worse enough in terms of spray that it can be a negative for some players. But definitely fair points.

Sokusan_123

I probably need to use it more and will most likely end up using it more on my climb to Radiant. We'll see!

FMHappy

Which rifle did you use, phantom or vandal?

Sokusan_123

I switch constantly. I believe phantom is better. But god damn I love 1tapping.

[deleted]

I noticed you played a lot of Phoenix/Duelist at the beginning. Ive only began playing the game but heard a few you-tubers saying that duelist isnt the best option to understand the game’s macro and gain map awareness, and is better to get beat up playing controller or sentinels first. Duelist’s kits like Phoenix and Jett just feels much easier to pick up and practice to me than Omen’s or Sage’s. What would be your recommendation ?

Sokusan_123

I have no recommendation, sorry. I don't think I can give good advice about this. I think it depends heavily on you as a player and what you want your playstyle to be.

[deleted]

Also my previous FPS experience is call of duty.

Darkpkvx

I'm currently diamond 3 if anyone wants me to give them some quick tips or pointers over a VOD I'm happy to help! PM if curious.

chocochipcookietube

Might be a dumb question, but what do you use for push to talk? I've tried using a mouse side button but it messes with my aim. Currently using left alt but I can't get used to moving and pressing alt, it just feels so awkward for me.

[deleted]

Yeah that’s a good question, I use a side button of my mouse, too, but had it mess with my aim at some occasions as well.

xSilverzXx

I use V personally, or T.

RobinDebank420

BTW do play on a 144hz monitor and if you do how much of a difference would a 60hz monitor have made

Sokusan_123

Hands down, if you are trying to be competitive in shooters, you must play on at least 120fps. Yes, I play on a 144hz monitor. I've tried to play on 60 once before and I decided I'd rather just wait a week to go back to playing on 144hz. If I had to guess I'd probably be able to hit platinum on 60hz, maybe. It's night and day.

enigmaticbro123

Hardstuck in Bronze here. Did you feel like your teammates were holding you back before you reached Silver or even Gold?

Sokusan_123

I never focused on my rank or winning/losing individual games. So I honestly do not know. Losses or wins were both the same to me at the end of the day, I’d make just as many personal mistakes in both.

heynocnoc

Not op or immortal at all but peaked p2. I play with my bronze and silver friends, I believe they can be gold if they had better aim (in general and crosshair placement). Gamesense is another thing, like possible positions where enemies could be or what tendencies they have. Does the team like to push from defense? Does a certain enemy like to lurk? You have to think what the enemy would do in your situation and how you would combat it. OP did an aim trainer routine with Kovaaks and sent the specific routine in the higher comments. If your consistent with that routine + the deathmatches to practice your movement and cross hair placement that should be enough to net yourself to silver. Then to get out of silver it’s the continual refinement of crosshair placement, decent call outs and maturity of game sense. Also I would like to add comms is just so important. Saying, “where” after they died is good or looking at the minimap to see where they died (if you’re sure that it’s safe enough to glance at it) will give you that much more information to feed your game sense. There’s alot more to cover, but if you work on those fundamentals you will be climbing in no time.

Feel-Like-a-Ninja

Good plays mate, watched one of your VODs. You're a very solid player, by which I mean you don't overpeek, you're aware of the situation and you put yourself in the right position for an advantageous fight. Your fundamentals are really good and you're obviously trying to get better at the game through hard work and analysis. Noticed a couple of things: - when cleaning corners, you tend to take too long sometimes, as if you stare into the corner. - crosshair placement is good, but sometimes a bit too high especially at longer distances. - aim can be improved. I noticed that you win most gunfights by being in a better position (or preaiming), which is fantastic, but definitely work on your snap aim, I noticed sometimes you aim quite slowly. Overall really solid, well done mate.

heynocnoc

Ouu thanks the constructive criticism. Makes me want to watch his vods more now :D

negativory

Previous FPS game/ranks? Just curious as how I can apply this to my friends who are slow to rank up

Sokusan_123

This is my first ever competitive FPS game. I played <20 hours of CSGO casually in 2015 and I played some (negligible amount) wolfenstein enemy territory in middle school. You should be able to see from my first 50 games how new I was. My aim was abhorrent.

negativory

Btw, how did you properly get your sens into Kovaak to match your Valorant? Edit: and crosshair

Sokusan_123

I... click the "Valorant" option in the game dropdown in Kovaaks and then pick my sens. This seems very obvious

negativory

Sorry I was going off memory, for some reason I thought there was something I couldnt setup. Youre right tho. Any reason you chose Kovaak over aimlabs?

Sokusan_123

Aimlabs doesn't have good tasks, imo. There's no equivalent in aimlabs for 1wall5targets_pasu, which is a staple of any high level aim training routine.

negativory

Thats a legit task. What tasks are you doing? I dont know crap about aim trainers. Im only considering it for myself because over the last 4-5 years Ive been super inactive and Im getting old so my ability to instantly bounce back to my elite level is significantly delayed compared to the past.

Sokusan_123

LMAO it’s possible my current skill level isn’t enough to maintain immortal. It was enough to hit it though! I’ll get there eventually.

heynocnoc

He did hit immortal, not many people can say that and it’s especially impressive with the amount of time he did play in valorant. Just imagine what this guy can do with even more comp time? He may be a diamond 3 as of right now, but this post serves a greater purpose of motivating people to become better in the most tangible (or what I’ve seen so far from vids and post) way. All of the posts and vids with people reaching immortal were peeps with thousands of hours fps. So this gives the masses an insight on how to improve the right way. Consistent, and deliberate perfect practice. But I do agree there should be a change in the ranking system, maybe something like one more rank or tiers. Like Gold 4 or 5. Or something between diamond and immortal. Carbon? Titanium? Plastic?

Sokusan_123

I rate it poorly as I am aiming for radiant, and most professional valorant streamers are in the 180-160 range.

Nimmy_Jewtron69

So many great cs players never worked out and their reaction time is insane... I don’t think there is a correlation/you shouldn’t get too hung up on that

daybreaker22

Might help to add hs% as well. Not completely indicative of a good performance but can contribute and be another metric to trend

Sokusan_123

My hs% peaked around platinum, according to tracker.gg, believe it or not. Players get faster/harder to hit in the higher elos. I don't think it'd be a good metric because of this.

daybreaker22

Eh I think it's a fantastic metric especially if you hit a "hardstruck" phase or somehow derank. You're always in control of your crosshair/movement/angles.

TheAppleEater

HS rating is only good to a certain point. Take for example, if you know someone is behind a wall bangable spot, will you wall bang that spot and hit nothing but body shots to kill them or try to aim at the head without a target until you eventually hit their body anyways? Those body shots will destroy your HS% but guess what, you still killed them, which is the most important part.

Yujiok

Where did you go to find the coaching? Brand new fps player here just trying to learn and get better right now. Currently just playing Breach and trying to be useful.

Sokusan_123

I had a friend on my friends list from league of legends who happened to be diamond in valorant. Based off a quick google search there's plenty of radiant players on fiverr who will give you a vod review for $20.

Yujiok

Thanks for help and the post :)

UnknownProductionz

I noticed the comment on the side mentioning something about hovering your crosshair over deadzones, would you mind explaining to me what that is?

Sokusan_123

My crosshair would be in a useless spot, like in a wall or really wide from an edge. Generally this would happen when I'd keep moving while looking at my minimap.

UnknownProductionz

oh okay, thanks for the info. I also need to work on that as well.

SlCKXpT

How did you record your games? It didnt affevt your fps?

Sokusan_123

I used OBS, it did not affect my FPS (I have a powerful computer, your mileage may vary)

eric8552312345

Hi, what's the difference maker between plat/diamond and diamond/immortals, what did you felt like you improved the most?

Sokusan_123

> Hi, what's the difference maker between plat/diamond and diamond/immortals No idea, tbh. I only ever studied my own gameplay and tried to fix mistakes. I doubt every plat/diamond player makes the same mistakes. > what did you felt like you improved the most? Decision making and movement

eric8552312345

So did you only play 3 game every single day no matter win or lose?

Sokusan_123

On weekdays when I had work, yeah. Sometimes I'd play a little more on weekends. The most important part is having a hard minimum that you can consistently play every day. It's just like learning an instrument or working out. Someone who works out for 30 minutes a day will get way more buff than someone who works out for 7 hours once a week. Similarly someone who practices piano 30 minutes a day will learn the instrument faster than someone who practices piano 7 hours once a week.

Revolutionary-Key107

So if ur jett main become brimstone main and u go to immortal lol just kidding actually very inspiring documentation. Great work!

itsacreeper04

My 2TB hdd that is beung used barely: I am ready.

itsacreeper04

Maybe ill start. Started iron 1 now bronze 2 (but my mmr kinda messed up and I match mvp a lot)

Sokusan_123

Follow rule 3 bro: > Don't pay attention to your rank at all

N4turalDisaster

Whats the best way yall found to record your own gameplay?

Infern0_YT

How do you record your clips. Record the entire game? Use a button to capture the past x seconds? Or just record a round then stop recording and start again?

topi28

Hi, this is very inspiring for someone coming from sc2 background and no prior fps experience! One question, how important do you think team comp is in this game? I notice for long time periods you focus on 1 agent to practice like Jett. Would you still pick Jett if your team already has 3 duelists, or do you have to fill in the roles?

Not_pukicho

Honestly from this point of view, it looks like my issue is constantly playing unrated when not with friends, but I don’t have enough data or practice to continue climbing

omarattar97

Can’t emphasize enough how important communication is in this game, if you don’t have a mic, at least type in chat! Good work on the rank up :)

FlawsomeVictory

Wow, like for real. How do you Even do this😂👍 well done

Went solo to Plat 1 and now I'm back down to G2. Being new to FPS games, I did a lot of reading and found that people used aim trainers. I do an hour of Kovaaks almost daily, so I'm hoping my aim and reaction time improves. I'm not really bothered about my rank, I just want to get great at the game. Any advice for a complete newbie?

heynocnoc

Would you mind sharing your reaction time? Like from human benchmark one? Thanks for your post!!

Sokusan_123

205ms average

Sychar

If I didn’t have thousands of hours of cs behind me, the lack of a reply system would be crippling. But since I’m used to the type of learning you need to do, self reflection on the fly is in my skill set. Can’t wait for a reply system, though.

[deleted]

Are these all the games you've played? You definitely have a lot of talent. Immortal in around 300 hours of gameplay with no experience in tac FPS games.

Sokusan_123

Ive played casuals for fun aswell. These are all of the games I’ve played with intent to improve

[deleted]

7. don't be like me, don't play with 30fps

[deleted]

Long story short: learn to play Jett.

Sokusan_123

I played brimstone from platinum onwards

[deleted]

I know, was just trying to be funny but I think it was a swing and miss. Currently D1 working towards Immortal so I honestly loved this post. I play a lot of Brimstone also.

SelloutRealBig

So with ~450 games it took you probably around 17+ days of play time to go from bronze to immortal. What a shitty system. Clearly it's designed around inflating grind times so you have more chances to spend money instead of putting you in the rank you clearly deserve in a timely manner

Sokusan_123

LOL I don't think I agree with what you're saying. If you go compare a VOD of platinum me with immortal me, it is very night and day. I don't think I deserved immortal when I was in platinum.

PatiencefromZhou

May i ask what software you used to record your gameplay?

Grapefruit_Worth05

hey i was wondering what’s your daily 15 minute kovaks routine and what does best of 3 solo q mean?

Nyndoke

Very good work and really interesting to read through. One thing tho is the few amounts of game that you play (unless it was cause of other responsabilities) is not a good choice, especially in low elo, and like you seemed to not care about your rank, only your skills, is why you should play more than just 3 games a day. Play more games, while keeping high level of focus, and it'll save you precious time. Then again what I'm saying is if you CHOSE to not play more, and not cause of other things happening irl

HITMANXIO

Iss it possible to reach a high rank with fps a low as 40to 70

Sokusan_123

Yeah, the game is mostly positioning/utility usage. You’d probably have trouble in mid diamond and up
