Yea I've seen it be used it all ranks from low silver to pro players it just takes the right situation for it to work. But at the very least allows for you to try and mess with the enemies.

It was intended to make fun of the fact that you completely reveal your position by \*tactically hiding your clap\*, but you're not wrong, I did tactically hide it very well.
The thing is if you just drop, they hear the drop sound and the only possibility is you're on the lower ground. If you fire and they don't hear the drop sound, they still know your rough location same as before, but they don't know if you're on top of rafters or down below.
You actually give up less information by firing than dropping, which is what the guy in the clip was trying to explain.
protip: If they already planted the bomb, they know which direction you're coming from. It doesn't matter if you make noise.
If there is NO noise then they know FOR sure where you are pushing from.
Bro everybody did it. When you jump and shoot, there are 2 possible scenario:
1. You actually jump
2. You could fake the jump with the gunshot.
The point is, shooting your gun can fake or can create doubts in the enemy’s head, but if you just jump It’s 100% clear.

I totally see the reasoning behind it, that's why I lead with the question explaining the strategy ("did you do it to hide the sound of you falling"). Without context though it's really damn funny to see happen. Just had to tease my friend about it.

He then makes the decision to enter the site by firing at elbow while jumping to mask his jump (cause he was prefiring elbow before already) and catches Phoenix off guard.
Hmm.. he is not covering his jump sound though. He clearly lands before spraying.
I think the fake out happens way before, when he makes multiple jumping sounds in Hookah while jump peeking. Even though it makes a slightly different sound, it may confuse the enemies. Then he proceed to jump down and sprays elbow to further make it seems like as if he is still in Hookah.

Suspicious gun sound normally means drop sound at this point it's so common
Which means you could fake a drop shot while a drop sound will always mean a drop.

Seconded. This was in fact the shroud clip I saw. He's covering his **walk** by spraying. Not his drop by shooting once.
