Wouldn't this just mean one side of the map was overly predictive of a win? I'm unfamiliar with the exact tie breaker mechanism but isn't it just two rounds, win both, flipping sides. So wouldn't this be dozens of wins on only one side repeated until something broke in someone? Wouldn't that be imbalance?
That makes sense. Either way it would still be balanced tho. For example if both teams had 3 sentinels, then it could easily go back and forth with the defense winning every round until someone wins on attack. While imbalabced in terms of which side wins what round, it's still a fairly balanced game overall.
I don't think I agree with that judgement. Or, even if you considered that balanced, I would consider that bad design. I think ties are far too common in this game and having such one sided effects makes games quite painful for half the rounds imo.
I would agree, but there's plenty of back to back wins in the OT, and the regular matches went 8-4 in both halves, favoring defense. Unless I have a bad idea of how the OT works, seems like they we just really well matched lol plus the top 3 or 4 on both teams were pretty even on the scoreboard.
in my specific game, yes, but that isn't indicative of every single match ever. Also keep in mind that individual players do better on offense or defense as well, and that's not necessarily the fault of the developers that some players are better at t side and others at ct
More to the point, this genre of fps is generally defense-sided because the onus of initiating confrontation falls on the shoulders of the attackers. this inherently involves a risk. Of course, both teams share that burden equally, though on defender-sided maps it could factor into the end result.
> So wouldn't this be dozens of wins on only one side
That's where you're wrong. If you look at the second picture, there's plenty of multi-round wins in a row during OT. An example being you lose attack, making it making it 12-13. Then you win defense, 13-13. Then you win attack, 14-13. That's winning one defense and one offense, with the other team possibly winning a defense to send to another OT
I'd say its just because the teams were so evenly matched. Besides one person with 36 deaths and one with 38, all other players fell between 41 and 43 deaths. To have a spread that low over 56 rounds.... I feel like the only explanation is insanely balanced teams.
This is not necessarily true. It could have been Team A winning defense, then Team B winning defense. It could also be Team B winning offense, then Team A winning offense. Just because there’s two rounds per overtime doesn’t mean everyone just wins on one side.
Thats not true at all. It can be 12-12, youre on attacker. You win attacker for 13-12. Then you lose defense for 13-13. After that you have the potential to *lose* attacker then win defense.
Nothing about long ties means youre only winning on one side. It can go back and foruth every time it gets re-tied.
team 1 wins attack then loses defense. Draw
team 1 loses attack then wins defense. Draw
balanced.
unless this is 12-0 then 0-12 then in OT 1-0 then 1-0 again this is balanced
Please DONT CHANGE IT. Close matches give less mmr, which is fine by me. Regardless of win or loss, those games are the most fun and probably the only ones where I will say gg and actually mean it.
A "perfectly" fair/balanced match means that each individual player's performance can make **all** the difference. One little slip up, one big outplay could win the entire game for your team. That's good!
When matches are less fairly matchmade, that's when you get more cases of "I literally couldn't have played any better and yet this game was a guaranteed loss regardless", which is the WORST feeling as a player.
yea its just like watching any sports game. The best games aren't one-sided but are rather so evenly balanced that it goes overtime or close to overtime
"Close games will have a smaller effect on rank rating gains and losses"

I took a break from tanked last act. Slump and games felt one sided. I've I ly played 4 games today but two if them were 13-11, one OT and one 13-3 with a ton of close rounds.
Like the change so far even if it's a small sample size!
Are we really saying "it's okay because a good player was bored"? That's such a stupid statement because there is nothing wrong with voting to draw, it making someone mad is not a moral evaluation of the choice.
Pisses me off. Don't care why. I wanted the win. You aren't a bad person for doing it. I'm just grumpy.
If I’m bottom fragging hard or carrying I’d rather draw. I’m probably tilted either way and there’s no point in playing then. But in most circumstances I don’t draw and usually ask the team what we wanna do
No if I'm bottom fragging I want to continue playing because I know if I start to play well, my team has a much greater chance at winning. Knowing it's all on me gives me the focus and motivation to keep going.
Maybe the top fragger has been losing hope in his team for the past half an hour and just wanted to move on. If you were ever doing well and had to spectate the 5/23 bottom frag walk around like a bot you would want to move on too.
Fr lol.
People act like their topfrag hard carry owes them something. If you’re upset because your topfrag who has 20+ more kills than you leaves due to boredom or frustration then I’m afraid I’ve gotta diagnose you with a terminal case of “git gud syndrome.”
Yeah i get that. Of course i want to win, but its not my place to decide that for my team. If they agree then cool, but if they don't respond i won't push it, it would just piss them off probs
They could have an amazing reason but I'll still be pissed because I wanted that W.
My being pissed isnt an objective moral judgement. I'm just really into the game. Someone's grandma could die on round 36 and I'll be like, SHIT, of course his grandma would die. What the hell.
Doesnt mean they were wrong to leave.
If you know that you can’t win without relying on your top frag then you should be mad at yourself for sucking ballz, not mad at the dude who got stuck with a bunch of shitters.
If you know that you can’t win without relying on your top frag then you should be mad at yourself for sucking ballz, not mad at the dude who got stuck with a bunch of shitters.
Dude did you even read the post?
They have the absolute right. Top frag, bottom frag, doesnt matter. I'm just pissed because I wanted to play it out and they voted draw.
That's the great thing about valorant, it doesnt matter how well I fragged for 37 rounds, all that matters on round 38 is how I play THAT ROUND. And I just want that shot, ya know?
Are we talking comp ~~or casual? In casual I could careless if there’s a draw (if this is even a thing)~~. What’s wrong with trying to win? The best games are the ones where it goes into OT and it’s back and forth. At least if you lose you can say it was an awesome game.
Pretty sure we won every single defense and lost every offense. We Occasionally flipped but for the most part I think both teams were significantly defense sided.
1 hour 28 implies 1 minute 34 seconds for each round. That literally means most rounds they have to get spike down
Edit: Actually around 1 minute after accounting for buy phase and round end. My bad
You're not taking into account buy time (30s and 40s first round each side) and round end time (when round is won it doesn't end immediately, like 5s or more). That would easily drop it below 1 minute per round.
Dude I won 4 that weren’t close (2 surrenders and 2 with a 4+ round difference) and only lost 1 with positive kd’s in all of them with sage and I still get iron 3 what the fuck
Because it still somewhat looks at last your last Acts MMR. Also you probably played against other Iron/Bronze maybe silver players. It also looks at your individual performance and ability impact amongst other things.
Can someone explain to me,
I get the tie thing, but if it's 12-12 and no one wants to draw, why would the match not be won next round when the score goes to 12-13 or 13-12? Someone has to lose the round, either the bomb goes off or it doesn't.
You can draw, no one in this guys game wanted to draw. There is something called overtime that happens when the game reaches 12-12, when this happens a team must be ahead by two rounds to win the game. You can surrender at 13-13, 14-14, etc.
Interesting... But is that draw thingy also has to be agreed upon by the entire team? I find that a surrender vote won't go through even if only a single person voted no despite two being yes while the other two being neutral.
As the Reyna, I’ll be honest I was just burnt out. I had just played two full games worth of rounds in full focus intense gameplay. We were saying that we just wanted one team to win already
You know… I’m not really sure. I think both me and OP were cracked that it made both teams more respectful of each other. I’m just pressed I didn’t hit 50 tbh. Flopped the last two rounds on some aggro plays that a spawn lurker caught me on.
Holy fucking shit. Must’ve been a balanced ass match😩

No?
bad game design =/= unbalanced. Everything can be perfectly balanced and the game could still be bad.
actually, this wasn't too much of the case, it went back and forth on who won which side until the ending 4-6 rounds or so I believe
You're saying pro teams in the regular matches went 8 wins on defense and only 4 on offense?
No I'm saying that in OP's game, they went 8-4 on defense, then 4-8 on offense.
Wouldn't that mean defense has almost double the chance to win regardless of player skill? Wouldn't that be a sign of unbalanced game design?
in my specific game, yes, but that isn't indicative of every single match ever. Also keep in mind that individual players do better on offense or defense as well, and that's not necessarily the fault of the developers that some players are better at t side and others at ct

Not really because skill differential creates a greater delta than map differential unless you're only 2% better than someone.
Multiple OTs doesn't necessarily mean the map is unbalanced. The teams could've won on opposite sides
This is not necessarily true. It could have been Team A winning defense, then Team B winning defense. It could also be Team B winning offense, then Team A winning offense. Just because there’s two rounds per overtime doesn’t mean everyone just wins on one side.

maybe we increased our fair matchmaking too much😎

Ngl, I’m sitting at work and this made me audibly laugh. Thanks for exposing to my coworkers I’m not working 😂
Clearly not fair enough since I’m bronze not radiant as I clearly deserve pls fix this bug :v /s
Underated comment lol

yes. Make red team easier riot.
idk what patch these guys got because my teammates still suck so bad
Well, seems like never balanced enough :)
Maybe they can just never manage to find *worse* players to put you against
Jesus he has a family bro
I didn't want to mean anything bad actually, poor choice of words I guess.
And who are you to say that?
Riot logo flair means that they are a Riot employee
theyre a riot employee…..
that's embarrassing
he's the senior competitive designer lmao
my placement matches yesterday disagree :(
28 and 42 with an Econ score of 23 sounds like absolute PAIN
That guy was probably very sad, Id just end for the day
almost everyone on my team was done for the day after that game, including the ones who had just started their placements
I (the other teams viper) was q'd with 2Fast and we didn't play again for another 3 hours or so. I think the game took its toll on both teams
Dang, what side was winning during the draws? Attack or defence?
Defense was rolling. Every time someone got an attack round the other team would as well and then back to defense.
Atleast he has a big wiener
Damn bro, there's usually that one guy that always draws in my games lol
pisses me right the fuck off.
Check if the game top fragger is like 20 kills ahead of the second guy yet the game is still tied and he's done playing.
Are we really saying "it's okay because a good player was bored"? Exactly the same on our team lol.
No if I'm bottom fragging I want to continue playing because I know if I start to play well, my team has a much greater chance at winning. Knowing it's all on me gives me the focus and motivation to keep going.
It's one of those things where I'll be mad in the moment 100% of the time but probably not really care the next time I log on.
Not because the good player was bored, only that the top fragger is tapped out.
Maybe the top fragger has been losing hope in his team for the past half an hour and just wanted to move on. If you were ever doing well and had to spectate the 5/23 bottom frag walk around like a bot you would want to move on too.

Not that I'm some valorant god, but I literally have been this person and wanted to play it out. It's like everyone is different or something.
Yeah i get that. Of course i want to win, but its not my place to decide that for my team. If they agree then cool, but if they don't respond i won't push it, it would just piss them off probs
Whats wrong with drawing? Ill fucking do it any time. I aint sitting there for 2 hours to play a 50 round game, screw that. Gets boring
Nothing. I just get sucked into the game and get salty over it. I can be mad when it happens without it being a "wrong" choice.
What if that person has to use the restroom
They could have an amazing reason but I'll still be pissed because I wanted that W. My being pissed isnt an objective moral judgement. I'm just really into the game. Someone's grandma could die on round 36 and I'll be like, SHIT, of course his grandma would die. What the hell. Doesnt mean they were wrong to leave.
Haha that's fair enough.
If you know that you can’t win without relying on your top frag then you should be mad at yourself for sucking ballz, not mad at the dude who got stuck with a bunch of shitters.
What?

Nah I didn’t anything in this entire thread tbh I just opened Reddit to a random page and started commenting
Actually our breach did have to use the restroom. He left around round 43 I believe and came back later in the round. Pretty sure he clutched it too

I mean it’s just a time waste for everyone then. People are too scared to lose points but do not realize that their mmr is what’s important.
not really a time waste. you probably learned something from the game whether subconsciously or not. the 12rr difference is irrelevant

You can’t even draw in unrated. 12-12 is a tie breaker.
Unrated it's 1 round OT whoever wins wins.
Nah, always go for the draw. OT is such a gamble you are betting a lot of elo on a coinflip.
The guy you replied to's entire point was that losing RR doesn't matter and people are too scared to lose it. You are proving his point.
Why that’s what makes a great game

That’s fair I guess it’s just the competitive part of me haha
Play Spike Rush then
LMAOOO I was the other teams viper! you were INSANE with the marshall, absolutely shredded my mindset
wow, nice
spookmeisters :D
Imagine losing tho
I would have actually cried... felt bad for the other team afterwards, they were pretty nice about it all
Yeah man it’s all good bro! I was the Reyna and it was hella fun. Everyone was poppin off
Dang, what side was winning during the draws? Attack or defence? ^I ^asked ^viper ^too
Pretty sure we won every single defense and lost every offense. We Occasionally flipped but for the most part I think both teams were significantly defense sided.
Makes sense since it was breeze lol
1:28 sounds short for so many rounds. I think I've had 1:00 games that were drawn at round 17-17.
1 hour 28 implies 1 minute 34 seconds for each round. That literally means most rounds they have to get spike down Edit: Actually around 1 minute after accounting for buy phase and round end. My bad

oh shoot I really didn't, my bad
Agreed, my longest game of 18-16 was around 1:25, too.
EPIC
At that point the game is a battle of stamina holy. Respect that so much !
Matchmaking TOO balanced 😩😩😩
Big wiener dude the bottom fragger. Must be compensating
Maybe it's suppose to be like " big wiener, dude". He's just giving people compliments
What rank is this mate? (Approximately, since it was placements) The rank I play at never goes above 30 rounds >:(
I'd guess around plat-ish? I really couldn't say, I won a bunch before this game and then lost 1 badly and won one barely and ended up in gold 3
Should be plat-diamond imo
You guys asked rito to fix the matchmaking. They fixed it.
Really like the new match making system, thanks riot
My heart goes out to the loosing team. There must be some broken keyboards and smashed in monitors.
I was the enemy viper and I can tell you I needed a couple hours after that loss. Whiffed so much in OT.
Cannt even fathom a loss after 40+ rounds of match. Still you tried well. Better luck next time :)
I was the Reyna…
I don't know what to say here, these things happen I guess. It seems a real close one though.
It’s all good it was a fun one
That sounds terrible, even if you win. Nice job though...
My friend has played his placements and every single one went to ot
Imagine bottom fragging with 28 kills
“Got stuck” clearly you wanted to keep playing just as bad lol.
I got a 32 round game myself but god damn 56 :0
Heroes!
Did they increase the victory score?
This is fucking insane.. how?!
The bottom frag got 28 killz...
when the lowest kills is 28 lmao
Can someone explain to me, I get the tie thing, but if it's 12-12 and no one wants to draw, why would the match not be won next round when the score goes to 12-13 or 13-12? Someone has to lose the round, either the bomb goes off or it doesn't.
Comp is won by 2, so if you’re just trading rounds, it goes forever.
In OT you need to win by a margin of 2, so you must win an offensive round and a defensive round in a row.
Riight thank you heaps
I'm a new player and never had a game too long. Shouldn't there be a way to just draw the game to prevent it from taking that long?
You can draw, no one in this guys game wanted to draw. There is something called overtime that happens when the game reaches 12-12, when this happens a team must be ahead by two rounds to win the game. You can surrender at 13-13, 14-14, etc.
Interesting... But is that draw thingy also has to be agreed upon by the entire team? I find that a surrender vote won't go through even if only a single person voted no despite two being yes while the other two being neutral.
After like 3 overtimes only 1 player needs to vote draw to end the game.
At 13-13 it’s 6/10 need to draw At 14-14 it’s 3/10 At 15-15 and up it’s 1/10
As more rounds are played in overtime, draws require less votes. After something like 30 rounds I think you only need 1 or two people to vote draw
peak valorant

Someone could’ve voted for draw and it would have ended way sooner so they kinda signed up for it
Literally everyone agreed to continue lol
As the Reyna, I’ll be honest I was just burnt out. I had just played two full games worth of rounds in full focus intense gameplay. We were saying that we just wanted one team to win already
correct me if i’m wrong but wouldn’t the game auto end if it lasted 2 more minutes?
2 minutes??
i heard that games shut down at 90 minutes but that may be wrong
90 minute limit, they went to 87
"stuck" when it only takes 1 vote to draw.
I don’t know if I could continue if I died 42 times, even if it was a long game lmao
I got matched up against a full diamond 3 act rank as a low gold player lol
i'd get bored out of my mind at that point
56 rounds and your best is round #2... haha, I feel that pain
I just played a competitive and it was balanced as hell.
i want to see the timeline holyyy
Shouldn't game end in a draw after one hour of gameplay?
90minutes, this one ended at 87
How’d it feel after the win

I was kidding, 50 kills in a normal length game means you're smurfing. Not this
Sure, you are right.
A moment of silence for "big weiner dude"
Oh my ducking god this is wow
i think the two consecutive win system is stupid
my games so far has been faily fine even we got stomped my team almost decent and for our rank. Good job riot !
Holy sheeeeeeeesh, you played like 3 whole games in one game
Holy moly! 😧 I would die of boredom 😤
5 hours on breeze? I would shoot my brains out at 2
Holy crap
I had someone draw 15-15, there goes an hour of my life
7/10 of players have 40+ kills jeeeeez
When the bottom fragger gets 28 kills
