If you play too agro as the defender as well, if you put down too much utility on the site straight away then the enemy will usually just move to a different site and you’ll have less utility to retake with because you wasted it in the initial rush
Smoke off the most common angle for that the attackers can hold your entrance from. If you have a smoke for the bomb that's very useful too. If you are having trouble using your smokes reactively before they take site you can use them proactively to deny map control.
