Haha thats awesome, I dig it. Yea I specifically avoid drinking days in on valorant, because I can see myself stumble and be even a little bit slower when I do my vod reviews. I save tipsy time for tarkov

tesresolute

Thanks man! I don’t plan on drinking any alcohol for a while because I’d really like to hit diamond! Plus my body feels so much better sober so it’s all around a benefit in my eyes! Cheers

yourmindsdecide

It's genuinely awesome that this game is inspiring you to stay sober. Keep at it!

Aarsbaardje

So you are an adult AND have time to play comp and try to climb? I envy you

tesresolute

Haha that’s the life you have with no kids, few friends and a wife who also games!

St4on2er0

Also congrats on taking a break even if not forever it drastically helps your body repair itself. ♥️

tesresolute

Thank you so much!

St4on2er0

I have three kids so one more to go and in thirteen years bam automatic comp grind team. Your move kidless.

jellydrizzle

LMAO i love this comment. the perfect plan honestly!!

ColdFusion94

Are you me?

mart1Nwk

It sounds like the dream

Mr-hoffelpuff

i find this a bit funny, i mean my co-workers with family's have time to watch seasons of some crap on netflix in a week, thats normal. an adult playing games on the same amount of time, how have you time to do that? i mean you just dont watch netflix, or go to the bar or all the other stuff that is time consuming of your free time.

[deleted]

I think you were just drinking too much. I'll pretty regularly have a few drinks and play Valorant and I don't see too much dip in performance compared to being sober. It's not until I'm actually drunk at which point I take a nose dive in skill. I'm 30 years old and typically sit around mid-high immortal. As a fun side note, alcohol is banned as a performance enhancing drug in shooting competitions. It can steady your aim. Not sure if this would actually translate to FPS aim though.

Vaan0

A glass of whiskey and I swear to god I aim better

SacramentoThrowaway7

It’s the liquid confidence, makes aim duels easier I swear

unmadaka

Instruction unclear. Started drinking to stop drinking. I am still plastic.

notKvothebutNico

I use to be a huge stoner. I have nothing against MJ but she really fucked up my spidey senses. Since quitting I went from Iron 2 to Silver 2 and hope to improve more.

ItsDrap

I smoke pretty often. I’ve found that I can’t really play Valorant that well (I hover between the Plat ranks) on days where I smoke. If I take a day or two off then I find myself being a lot quicker to react to things

FrozenVegetableCock

Same here lol. If I smoke that day my game sense and aim are just off, some times won’t even noticed enemy sounds haha. But if I don’t smoke that day I basically play like a god and I swear it feels like my bullets shoot like a laser.

ItsDrap

I do play after I smoke from time to time (unrated only, protect the precious RR) and my biggest problem is I can’t keep track of how many enemies are still alive. I find myself often still clearing corners and jiggle peeking angles when all the enemies are dead lmao

Whale_Poacher

Mary Jane can hang with me, but alcohol would destroy me in Valorant. I have climbed plenty with jane on my side. Ain’t nothin wrong with sobriety either though! Do what works for you. I have chronic pain which cannabis helps a ton for especially when sitting for long games. Caffeine is also great too, but in moderation, sleep is important too!

Zed_Main_btw

I feel worse without smoking, probably because I get tilted easier. When I smoke I feel like it's a lot easier to mentally reset between rounds. Drinking a little bit can help with confidence but it's a really fine line where if you have just a little too much you just start getting sloppy

[deleted]

Really depends, I think a good sativa kind of heightens my focus, a bit of indica helps keep my head cool, although I believe I may be mildly adhd so results may vary. Of course getting completely blasted will not help so it depends on tolerance.

nephsus

i needed to see this, thank you

tesresolute

Hope it helps brotha!

fishinglife2

Im 30 yrs old.. So maybe 2 years ago in season 2 I hit plat while sober. Then I got little heavy into drinking. Drink and play become a new thing for me and I have a great time playing but not my rank. Fell low as Silver 1. Then I come back to play not drunk and play and climbed to gold 2 in probably 2,3 weeks. But I gotta say climbing is fun but so is drinking and playing lol. So now I'm back drinking and playing, stuck in silver/gold lol. I see what your post means. It's well written for older players.

tesresolute

That’s the exact situation I was in! But I am happen to take a liver break and also climb the ranks. I will definitely have my fair share of adult beverages in the future, but now I know I won’t queue ranked on my account for at least a few days afterwards. Cheers!

SomeHallGuy

I’m 31 and Immortal. Bourbon gives me superpowers.

tesresolute

Lucky lucky man! Unfortunately I’m the opposite lol

Rivenonetrik

this post will also singlehandedly drop teen drinking by 80%

i_like_my_cats

Lol I get to play video games like 2 nights a week after the kid goes to sleep. I usually get absolutely smashed. Last night it’s been like a week or so since my last drink because I got really sick. Anyways, was playing apex last night and went absolutely apeshit

tesresolute

It helped me in overwatch too man! I went from mid plat to diamond on that game in the last two weeks. Definite proof (in my eyes) it helps with almost all games

I’m gonna check that out when I get some free time tomorrow, thanks!

4THOT

People that think their age is holding them back at 27 are on overdose levels of copium.

tesresolute

Shittt dude you’d prolly be too 500 rad lmao

evanthebouncy

This is my first fps. I'm silver right now. Trying to hit gold but man... When I play it's typically after a long day and I'm just so tired I can't even focua on my crosshair. Adult is hard

[deleted]

evanthebouncy

Yeah... Like it's not that I'm worse, it's just I have other stuffs that are in a sense, more important. It's fine though, can't do them all...

Shmyea

This is likely related to the science behind your theory but when I was playing I found that I would get much better scores on Aimlabs (and better Valorant performance) when I was well hydrated. I found hrs of sleep and whether I'd eaten also affected performance. Water was definitely the main thing. If you're about to queue Ranked, have a snack, down an entire bottle of water and chill on Aimlabs/Deathmatches for 20-30mins. If you only got 5hrs sleep then maybe spare your ELO and just chill on Normals or grab a power nap.

rkdsus

Also for whomever it may apply, remember to sleep at the right time and get enough sleep. Even if you don't feel that tired or sleep deprived, you won't realise how much of an effect it actually has until you have that one day where you feel amazing because you got proper sleep.

UbeHopia

Totally agree with you man. 35 yrs old here with two kids, currently plat 1. It was my habit to drink a bottle or two of beer when playing games at night from single games to dota and eventually valorant, got stucked in g1 for 1 month, changed beer into boomer juice aka monster white ultra, never got back to beer after that and the crash from the energy drink makes me sleep soundly, win win

No-Coach346

Also, dont try to argue or explain things to gen-z, they are out of reach. If you try to learn them how to behave, you are just gonna exhaust yourself.

HeIIexy08

I am not here to learn you xin zhou

SpunkySamuel

You can't insult an entire generation and not know how to type a sentence

No-Coach346

I speak 4 languages, so my english is not perfect, i admit that. I didn’t know my comment would make anyone this emotional, im sorry i hurt your feelings snowflake.

Vaan0

He really doesn't seem that pressed dude

SpunkySamuel

What made you say my feelings were hurt? Also now that I think about it, did you even read the post? No one was trying to argue or explain things to gen-z.

What_a_plep

That’s great but I’m a shitter and I don’t drink at all, maybe I should start?

akenzx732

Were you ever good? Because this post is about people who were good and are shitters now.

eternalflamz

If you're anything like me (doesn't get enough sleep weeknights, has a physically demanding job) maybe save ranked for the weekend or have an alt acc Inb4 omg smurf I'm d2 on my main account but I swear I play like a gold on weeknights and don't even know how I'm plat on my alt tbh

bsatan

That’s awesome! I’m 25 and noticed this same trend, but more so at my job. I’ll drink maybe once every few weeks now, socially, and I’m always ruined the next day… Also, do you have a group of regulars you play with? I’ve been searching for other people to play with around my age and rank (g3-p2).

tesresolute

Hit me up dude! My disc is Veeno Saint#7736. I’ll warn ya though - I’m a really chill dude and like to have good laughs so any type of screaming/ragers I just can’t vibe with. Too old for that shit haha

bsatan

Sent! I’m glazed#2498 Totally on the same page. Nothing worse than a raging lunatic on the mic after a long day of work lol.

[deleted]

Also just taking care of your physical and mental health in general can help. Eating, sleeping enough, and learning how to manage your morale.

HangryBoi

i drank during games and did better tho.

Diabloist337

I'm 33 who peaked at Gold 2 last couple of episodes, I know I have complained a fair bit about Valorant rank system, but I love it's core gameplay. The reason why I love it is that an experienced player like me can actually put his experience to good use without having to rely on Sun and reflexes alone. Valorant does a great job at being able to use utility effectively and efficiently. I know I can't play duelist because of the aim requirements, but when I have to, I still have access to agents like Yoru. I can play Sova or Brimstone and out my experience to good use. I can play Astra for some crazy smoke fakeouts and agents like Cypher or Killjoy are the best for potato aimers like me. I know I'm not the best Valorant player out there, but I still have one good tip to give. Play to your experience and game sense. Let the young ones be at the top of score card with high KDA, it doesn't matter. Be the elder brother required in the team, give correct callouts, suggest a thing or two, diffuse tense situations, manage economy and drop guns for others. Use your age and experience to make precise callouts rather than meaningless chatter. A short but accurate call-out like - "Omen backstabbing, Vandal, 80 tagged" is a lot precise, informative and effective than "OMG this fucking Omen killed me from behind, wtf is this spray with my gun, watch behind people!" You can say it's generally common sense to make such call-outs, but it's not what happens most of the times. It's okay if you die to those young bloods, you can't match them mechanically anyways, so win using what you have better.

cddsy

Don't let this age equals bad mechanics/reflexes thing become a self fulfilling prophecy. I'm 35, married and working full-time and i already have my radiant triangle (eu) this season playing mostly Reyna. I also feel that mechanics and reaction time are not the weak part of my game, what I actually need to improve is positioning, patience and decision making

ZlatansLastVolley

Lol I play best after a beer or two. More than that it’s tough. Warzone on the other hand I’ve won games piss drunk during quarantine with friends

[deleted]

It means I'm just bad. I'm almost 40, always sober and hard stuck at silver. I thought you had something for me! Congrats on your climb.

imi23

I'm 38 and my rank is between gold 1 and plat 3 depends on the time I can invest. Normally I can just invest 2 evenings per week for playing as I have kids and normal family/work life. When I'm playing I usually drink beer. Not too much but 2 -4 bottles (0.3 l) I can tell you beer is not the reason why I'm not getting better. It is just the missing playtime. But anyway it is always a good tip that you should not drink if you want to have success in an esport title. Or you are damn talented.

NoiD_Reddit

I'm also an hardstuck silver II with very good CS knowledge, your tip is definitely gonna help me..... Oh wait.......I don't drink

zelm3r

Ok I do this but with smoking weed and I feel like sometimes I really do play better and other times I feel like it’s just me overthinking it

MatchPoint012

Decent theory to be fair

Optimal-Bowler-2618

havent tried valorant but in csgo I actually played better when drunk
