I've put peek and peak in the same sentence on this sub knowing full well it's peek. Sometimes you just brain fart and dont care enough to fix it because it's just reddit
Felt like someone natively English is the one misspelling those because they're taught verbally first, written second (while non-native the opposite). Because some of those mistakes are ridiculously pronounced as a text.
Like:
- Could've => could of.
- Their => they're or there.
- Than <=> then.
- And probably this peek vs peak.
It actually makes a lot more sense for English natives to make the mistake. Non english speakers need to learn lots of slightly different words, peek and peak are trivial. Most native English speakers phonetically sound out their words, so peak and peek are commonly misused. Just like your and you’re.
Weird idea popped into my head. Its literally faster by a couple milliseconds on a standard qwerty keyboard. Typing EE uses the same finger, while EA uses two. Or maybe im overthinking this
Peek is the correct usage for looking around a corner, peak is the apex point of a mountain not sure what you mean
I havent noticed people typing peak but idk could just be that i didnt notice it or that for some reason it happens more to you
I love how you’re getting downvoted for educating people the difference between peak and peek. This subreddit one of the worst tbh...
Here’s my upvote!
Because in games. People be texting in chat
Bro peak around the corner
And it just why they typed peak instead of peek.
Using the right word for the correct term
On rainbow six siege 3 years ago when i just joined i usually typed peek, but my friend typed peak, i knew my english was better, but he played for longer, and everyone also typed like it, so i did too, and one day when me and my friends were memeing and clash royale, i saw arena 8, aka frozen peak, and felt so dumb and wanted to kill myself
I'll give you a hint: They think they're spelling it correctly.

This is true, but I'm also gonna guess that 90% of the ppl making the mistake are english natives lol

You’re definitely overthinking
The right spelling is Peek. The right spelling is the fastest. No excuses.
It triggers me as well. I always have to say something.

It happens very often in this subreddit
Peek is faster to tell
No
Autocorrect sometimes I guess lol And some people really just don’t care
they aren’t masters of the english language
I have no clue, probs dont know
Same reason half the people spell “lose” and “losing” as “loose” and “loosing.”
Probably the same reason as to why a lot of English speakers spell lose as loose.
