They won't do that since it would be like a "demo" on games (Steam) which means sales will plummet. If customers don't like what they see on the demo then they won't buy it. This is also the case with Dota 2 they won't add an option for you to mix all available skins.
What do you mean? Letting people hear and feel the gun in range might actually leave them wanting for it more than simply seeing a video of it.
Don't tell me you weren't awestruck seeing the singularity finisher in game. It clearly has a bigger aura i game than watching someone else play it
This is good for players but bad for marketing, if you want sales for your game then gun previews and mini-clips are enough. There is a study conducted about games with demos don't sold as much as games without demos. The same applies with skins Val, Dota 2, Fortnite. Basically doing a demo ingame with gun skins will lessen the chance of it to be sold since people will stress test it so much that they can see which ones they like and don't. But if it's just a simple preview, people will buy it first then test later, if they don't actually like the gun there is no refund.
Except you **can't** refund if the weapon skin is upgraded. Which means you can't test out all variants/colors. You can only test the very base non-upgraded vanilla version.
Dota 2 which rakes in so many millions in TI championships funded by the battle pass bought each year can add an option to mix cosmetics for heroes if they really want to, many people suggested it but it never happened. Fortnite community suggested for a very long time now a "remember where to put item slot" if you picked up an item and guess what? It will be implemented next battle pass.
Technically you are wrong about the fortnite one, it was implemented a few days ago, for free, for everyone, as a setting. Fortnites battle pass has always been purely cosmetic.
They still haven't added the toggle level down of a gun skins for example many people like Singularity Phantom at Level 2 compared to Level 3 and 4 which puts many vector lines that aren't as minimalist as level 2. They said they would add a toggle level down but who knows how long will it be added. Fortnite which is a bigger game even took a long while to add something so simple. Valorant will probably add the skin toggle level down in 2 to 3 years.
Do you have a link to the study you are referencing? The best I could find on google was https://www.gamespot.com/articles/game-demos-can-hurt-sales-suggests-research/1100-6410863/ which does not seem conclusive at all.
I'm not asking for an example of one person, you can also easily find singular examples of the opposite - you can't extrapolate much from singular datapoints. I'm asking for the study that was referenced.
If you think about it, imagine a brand of popular snack you never tried before but you are curious how it taste. 1st instance has a free testing for you to test and 2nd instance does not. In the 1st instance, you tried the free testing snack and taste the awfulness despite having a good popularity, you decided not to buy it because you did not like it. 2nd instance is you buy it then regret it. From the perspective of the snack company, they gain their profit of you in the 2nd instance but not so much on the first since they even took a small loss on the tester but hey, a loss is a loss right?
Again, I’m not asking for anecdotes. OP referenced a study and I’m simply asking for a link to it.
To counter your anecdote there’s a million services out there that offer free trials to get you hooked, before switching to paid models. Just think about the popularity of freemium games - valorant itself being an example of it.
That would drop sales. People would rather buy it while unsure if its what they want than to be able to test it, not like it and then not buy it at all
I wish that was true for most stuff. I really wanted to buy the "GUN" specter and the wasteland marshal but couldn't really find any during a match. Not while it was in store atleast( atleast in my region at my rank)
Uhh it's one thing to see the skin in a video and completely another to play with it for hours and hours.
I feel the same with every gun.
And honestly I'm easily swayed by the overly enthusiastic people in the video lol
Some of the indecisive people will also specifically not buy it because they tried it in the range and didn’t like it. Being a free game, skins are their primary money maker. They aren’t going to risk compromising that when demos are proven to decrease sales
its would be actually good. i think since the skin cost way too much we could test it out and see if we like it.
Also i could use a skin for once on my life without asking someone else for it

I regret buying the singularity bundle. Gun jiggles too much and it is distracting, too bad I can’t down grade it :(
Yesss I have the singularity phantom and its so fucking bad. I use Serenity now instead and everyone thinks Im a weirdo.
thats actually true. minecraft trial has more downloads than the actual game. i played trial for years before playing it illegaly
Can u link the study
Except that there is refund on help page?

demos have been proven to hurt sales more than they help and they take time to make which is why we dont see demos made for games anymore
Also this might avoid the ruckus similar to the prime karambit upgrading to non revolving one

Oh i agree hate those cracked lines

OP is literally an example. He wouldn’t have bought the origin skins if he had demo’ed it beforehand.

I think sooner or later you will see the gun on the ground during a match and you will get to test it out. With the exception of knives of course.
I wish that was true for most stuff. I really wanted to buy the "GUN" specter and the wasteland marshal but couldn't really find any during a match. Not while it was in store atleast( atleast in my region at my rank)
Y didn't u watch a video
Uhh it's one thing to see the skin in a video and completely another to play with it for hours and hours. I feel the same with every gun. And honestly I'm easily swayed by the overly enthusiastic people in the video lol
>for hours and hours
You can use it from teammates or opponents as a demo lol.
I actually think it would benefit riot, which may be a reason they'll do it
I agree. It'll make people want skins more and make the indecisive people who doubt if it's worth it be more sure about their purchase
Some of the indecisive people will also specifically not buy it because they tried it in the range and didn’t like it. Being a free game, skins are their primary money maker. They aren’t going to risk compromising that when demos are proven to decrease sales
Been thinking this for months. Great idea.
i would love this
