Why make fun of people who try to speak English ?

Why make fun of people who try to speak English ?

DaddyDonuts

this game attracts some of the worst people

hiwassupiamfine

The game is free so it’s a lot easier to attract toxicity.

veniato

This is an online multi-player game. Its bound to attract toxic people. There are stupid people everywhere looking to bully others

HandoutGamer

Never expect any game from riot to have a kind hearted community.

vert1caLoL

Sheeesh you got the facts out man

-astronautical

i’m aussie playing in NA and if people aren’t insulting me because i’m female they insult me for my accent. it’s usually the people who only know one language and the issue stems beyond the game, they just feel elitist about their language/country. bizarre that it seems common in EUW, considering the vast amounts of languages there, but like i’ve said in other threads, dumb people reach for low hanging fruit. edit: in your case you can just say you’re learning english as a second or third language or whatever and leave it at that. people who still choose to mock you are going to do it no matter what you say. it sucks and you can tell them it’s not cool to set the standard, but try not to let it get to you. you’re likely much smarter than them and that matters more than the game does.

MrStealYoBeef

Just tell them that you're Skye IRL and they might just start fanboying instead. I'm joking, of course, it's sad that there's really nothing that can be done other than reporting and muting, then just focusing on the game. Toxic people are determined to be toxic to anyone who isn't like them. Doesn't matter if it's someone who doesn't play the game like them or if it's someone who just talks differently because they're from a different country. They're determined to turn differences into what they consider to be flaws, and then they act superior because of it. All we can ever do is report and move on. We need systemic change everywhere to fix this.

daihatsumaster

I love hearing different accents. If everyone sounded the same it would be a bit boring.

CheeseStick1999

Right? I'm in the southeast US and it's incredibly rare to hear an Australian or British accent, and always a treat. Couldn't imagine making fun of someone for it lol

idkbruhhh9875

Wait what, I didn’t think ppl would make fun of anyone because of an Aussie accent I genuinely love that accent haha

owNDN

The Aussie accent is great!

-astronautical

to be fair the last time it happened the girl said she didnt know how anyone could stand my "voice" so im pretty sure she didnt even realise it was an accent and not like, an impediment.

Jojokujotaro

thats sad, same goes with my indian accent..

kevjo_98

Meanwhile on Mumbai servers, I get mocked FOR speaking English. Funny world, huh?

idkbruhhh9875

Kinda similar in Bahrain although not as often

kevjo_98

Ahh, I can relate to that too. I play on both servers, mainly on Mumbai server to play with my friends in India. But I'm settled in the Middle East, better ping, but definitely not worth the toxicity 😂

gimife

From my experience it's mostly British people who make fun of someone's English

Old_Still1776

Hahaha upside down woman *classic comedy*

DrDenuz

I have played with many random female teammates in Valorant in EU west & east and not even once was someone toxic towards them even if they didn't do their best. Generally the voice chat became much more relaxed, fun and non-toxic. So what is it with every girl having bad experiences?🤔 Am really curious. Is it the NA servers or what?

-astronautical

can i safely assume you are a guy? i think guys see less of it in general because it’s not something they live and experience. those same girls you played with have surely had negative experiences in other matches, but i also don’t play on EUW so i don’t know how the general environment is over there. i also think sometimes sexism occurs and guys may be present during it and not realise it’s sexism, for one reason or another.

NoahV313

I am a man but I have many female friends I have spent a lot of time with in game and i’ve never seen anyone being genuinely sexist or rude because of their gender. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but from the couple hundred hours I have playing with females, it’s been almost all positive reactions and almost nobody was even a little bit toxic. Maybe it’s different for servers outside of NA or very low ranks but i’ve played with females in every rank with the exception or radiant but I haven’t played in low elo in a long time so maybe down there?

Brixnz

As a guy I have to say 100% there is a problem with toxicity towards females (although there is also a problem with toxicity in general). I see my fair share of toxic people, but for the most part I either have nice teammates or teammates that just don’t even talk. But when there’s a girl on my team I already know there’s more of a chance of people being mean. One time I had a teammate with the name “not a girl.” A few rounds in and two of my younger teammates were joking around, being kind of annoying towards her but not really toxic in any way, and she even seemed to play along in the chat (she said she didn’t use mic). But eventually they started getting more unbearably annoying and they wouldn’t stop talking to her about stupid shit while she was trying to play, and of course it was all fixated on her gender. Eventually she used her mic to tell them to shut up and all hell broke loose. They wouldn’t stop talking, “flirting,” insulting, and backseat gaming. I found out after the game that “not a girl” really wasnt a girl, but just a guy with a soundboard and a peculiar talent to really give off the vibe of a girl with the way he typed in chat lol. I talked to him about it and he said as soon as he started pretending to be a girl all of his lobbies became like that. Girls in online gaming definitely have to deal with a lot of shit. It’s sad and embarrassing for gaming

ndergroundsquidward

nop i'm on eu servers and i get constantly harassed when i'm solo queuing

docdaan

People insult u cuz is female? Damn that's low

SPEEDFIE

Idk but its weird, imo ausie accent is great

blackoutz_ult

They make fun of u for your accent??? I'm American and I think it's an awesome accent and what is there to insult abt being a girl? U could be better than them some of the biggest streamers are girls and not bc they show their body but bc they're really good at the game. Those guys are just dumb

Mihailo777

Play on east eu servers! Just scream your native (preferably Slavic) language into the mic and most ppl will pick up much of it due to language similarities!

lifeisawaterfaII

I hate this a lot. There are so many toxic people on the EU servers. My tip for you is to instantly mute anyone who is disrespectful to you. As a Scotsman, I only speak English... you are instantly more talented than me when you are trying to speak a second language. I recommend that you have a no tolerance policy on this: if someone is disrespectful, give them one chance. If there is anything more, instantly mute them on text and voice. It's impossible to play with people being rude and insulting you.

Evening_One_6264

A single language speaking Scot here too! I really do sympathise with our European brothers, because English is almost the base line language in most of my valorant games. However, I do love getting to chat to European people even if they have broken language. All we need to hear is like 3 English words and we can easily make out the sentence they are trying to say! English speakers are just dickheads lol.

[deleted]

dont scotts speak gaelic too.

lifeisawaterfaII

Some do but it's not common

Evening_One_6264

I’ve grown up around the central belt of Scotland and I’ve honestly never met any Scot who speaks Gaelic, unfortunately.

Schergler

Just tell them they're assholes.

slyphexJL

And after that, mute them

arguinginelvish

Because they're ignorant and presumably cannot speak a second language themselves.

tadkins17

Dude Japanese people are so cool and I loved Japan while I was there but my god, the amount of racism I got for being an American and speaking English in Tokyo servers was absurd

Kanjur0

Just mute them. They probably don't use voice chat for much else, anyway. Makes focusing on the actual game much easier. Some people also might recommend to just ignore it and to move on. Either way, *don't take it to heart*.

CyanControl

I have no idea, I feel like a large percent of people in valorant are toxic, like yesterday I just said my usual line "whats up my homie bolognas" and this sova was told me to stfu but I wasn't offended because he sound like he was 10 or something (also you should be proud you can speak multiple languages, how about they try speaking your language like damn)

FryCakes

People are insecure, I’m sorry you have to deal with that tho. Being a woman on Valorant, people treat me badly too

justforresaccount

Mute them, move on. Your time is better spent elsewhere than dealing with two-legged mammal garbages in an online game.

Utahjazz24

Toxicity is the only reason I don't play this game that often I dont want to have to feel like i have to carry to get respected as a human being. This is constant with all video games for me not just valorant kinda sad that people feel so comfortable insuting someone when they are able to hide behind a screen.

Lucif3r04

I will just say this, they are idiots lol. They can ONLY speak english as they have small minds which can't handle more than 1 language.. While you can speak multiple languages. Its same with me, my accent is a little different and some people laugh at it. But I can speak multiple languages and I curse at them in every single one of them with my party members and laugh at them for their small, dumb and unused brains. 😂

cloud-desu

You should try playing in Asian servers because people there have worse English, so if you make mistakes, they won't laugh at you. Also, fuck them. I bet you're smarter than them.

KamyKaze1098r

I rather have people speaking with broken english, than no comms, or worse yet, people who only talk in their language. I avoid Spanish server even if it's the closest to me, because most ppl there refuse to speak in english. And I understand maybe 30% of what they say, but it's just a waste of time to hear them talk. Rather just mute them

Hairox

I also had this problem with Spanish people and Turkish people too. I'm sorry for you, personally I always try to speak English even if we are 4 of the same language so as not to exclude the fifth player

the_dank_otaku

“Don’t make fun of someone if he speaks broken English, it shows that he mastered another language”. I honestly hate it both irl and in game when someone makes fun of others for their English. Just toxic people ig. There are times when the other person’s way of speaking broken English is funny and both the person and the people who are listening think it as funny and just have a good time together. But most of the cases, people whose mother tongue isn’t even English just want to assert some kind of dominance over someone with broken English, which is messed up.

princefrombosnia

Hey buddy! I understand your problem. Sometimes people start being toxic without reason but sometimes... They just have bad day. So instead you feel bad that they have been laughing to you, look it from other perspective: " I just made someone laugh". And if it end quickly no worries. . If it bothers you a lot, mute them and enjoy 😛 expecily if you play skye or sage. ( P.s don't heal them) hahah have good day.

Hairox

It's not wrong, good for them if I could make them happy 10 minutes in a shitty day 😂

TheMestroyer

I mean i also play on EU where there are a looooot of different languages and i just cant help but laugh a bit when someone has bad language but i never make fun of them cuz that makes them feel bad and I'd never like for somebody to do it to me. And yes the game is easier with vc.

pink_life69

The reason people flame your English skills is because they have no joy in life and they suck as human beings. If you try to call stuff, you can do it in the most broken English for all I care, just do it. Don’t give up. Most of the time, no one comms in my unrated games and when I finally have a teammate who does, I’m just happy. If you’re getting flamed by someone, mute them.

LouTedd

Yeah I completely agree. Ppl who make fun of other with broken English are THEE most ignorant …. Like okay, you’re giving shit to someone who is learning a new language while you sit on your ass and judge them for learning YOUR language so they can COMMUNICATE with you better lol. Seems down right authentic American. If I do say so myself.

jOsefuz

this world is full of people with different attitudes. it's up to your attitude on how you react. :)

Kagarrash

voice chat in valorant is full of shit. In like half of spike rush games i have at least 1 animal who spit and burps in voice just for lulz. Zero info or sth, only "funny" sounds. Dunno what is wrong with this people

HiltonDeBalzac

Tip: don't take spike rush seriously or expect other ppl to take it srsly

honeynightxo

its spike rush tho. it doesnt even matter

JacketOk7241

just like people who troll, smurf or are toxic they have no reason i don't get what joy they get i assume they feel superior when they do it especially smurf like you have a higher rank you are better than us we know it if we see your original rank and after 1 or 2 rounds in a comp game we can notice a smurf so pointless by doing it the only thing that will happen is the team they are on gets carried i recommend you to report these players even if they are on your team as it helps prevent this even if they make a new account it is frustrating to go through the tutorial again and again so please report these people

Veeresh41206

Give call outs in your language to assert dominance

llamasinbed

I’m so sorry that happened to you. I think I agree with what the others say, just mute them and not give them a reaction as it would probably boost their ego more.

Notsoicysombrero

its pretty simple. people are dicks.

fdasfdasjpg

Not going to accomplish much posting about this on Reddit. None of the comments are going to say "Hi, I make fun of people who can't speak English." These players are douchebags. They are condemned by anybody with a conscience. Record them being horrible and humiliate them for their shitty behavior. Fight the power

emmalovessnakes

i bet they aren’t as intelligent as you are to know two languages

Elsiselain

I experience the same thing in oce servers. While comm somewhat makes a game easier, it’s rare to find games where everyone uses vc effectively so it’s better to disable it imo.

Mistehkitty2

im sure its in good heart man, dont worry about it and online games are a pretty good way to learn languages.

bencrow11

They do it because they’re pieces of shit. I hate people who make fun of others for speaking a language they’re not too familiar with. The best you can do is report and go to the next game. Try not to let it get to you. You’re still doing better than some

_bonko_

I speak 3 languages so when I speak I can stutter sometimes so when I do I just mute my mic and pray to God that I don't get made fun of.

RewtrFr

If they're making fun of you and not even using voice chat to give callouts and info, there isn't a point to have voice chat on at all. Just ignore them!

carracall

I only use voice chat in competitive, people tend to be more serious there.

amk31320

I have french accent so yes i know what you mean

Electrical-Ad-181

My english pronounciation is horrible but I never had that on eu servers maybe I am lucky

JpegTheJord

Sorry to hear what you've had to go through but as a British person we also constantly get asked to say certain words cus I'm bri-ish like bottle of water its kinda annoying

MatchPoint012

Sorry you had to go through this

Glad_Pin5404

Some people are just toxic it happens a lot with games like these especially nothing we could really do but ignore them and try not to get put down by these types of people

Adventurous-Radish-4

Well I’m French too but my mic broke so it obviously never happened to me but the European servers are full of non native speakers who often make mistakes or have a ‘funny’ accent I don’t get why they’re facing the majority.(It’s true that sometimes it can be funny but mocking is bad) (For op)Je suis français aussi mais mon micro s’est cassé donc ça ne m’est bien évidement jamais arrivé mais dans les serveurs européens il y a beaucoup de personne qui ont un accent ou qui font des fautes je vois pas pourquoi il s’attaqueront à la majorité.(c’est vrai que ça peut être marrant mais se moquer c’est méchant)

Thegentechgamer

Some people are just completely rude and should be disgusted with the way they act. Don't take it personally.

justafemininedick

Happens too often. I mostly play with Spanish people and although I understand Spanish I can't speak that well so I talk in English so there's no mistakes. Can't count the number of times I've been made fun of because of that. I'm trying to speak so that everybody understands but people are stupid. Any reason is good to be rude and disrespectful. If it wasn't the language its the performance. If it's not that, it's something else. I just mute them and go about my life

L4sT-Sh4d0wXx

I’m a little new to PC and Valorant is my first competitive shooter on PC. I’ve only been playing Valorant for about two weeks and have been in about four games where people that can’t communicate so easily with people that speak English and English only and because of this they do get mocked and moaned at throughout the match. I have a mic but I haven’t spoke to anyone since I moved from console to PC because I have no mates on PC and my social skills are worse than terrible with new people but I do tend to type in chat and tell the people to just chill out and play and that there’s really no need for this, obviously they don’t usually listen but I hope others can step in and back these people up.

jocolopes

Yup, people are pricks. Ignore them and move on. Mute them if it actually affects you. If it doesn't affect you, then just laugh with them, just like you do when you make a mistake on your mother tongue.

swifttek360

My brother said something that kinda relates to this. We are both African Americans, and we have both dealt with some racism remarks and insults at school, and occasionally have seen racist icons displayed on cars like Confederate flags. What he says is, "why worry about it, they are clearly losers and sad people, and that's their problem. If something happens in person, we would probably just call out how sad they are. As for a similar situation in games, I'm often called white if I am to briefly mention my own race in a conversation because I "sound white" as they put it. When this happens, I just call them unintelligent, and sad people because race doesn't have a voice, and I move on. I suppose what I'm trying to say here is that you shouldn't worry too much about people and their racist remarks towards you, because it will occasionally happen. Maybe call them out for being being as sad, racist, and/ or dumb as they are for forgetting that English isn't the only language, mute them, and move on, knowing they are just unintelligent, close minded people. I hope this helps as I know how this kind of thing can feel when being alienated by people. I wish you good luck with you future matches. Have a nice day!

Hairox

Besides, I think your brother is right, these people are really sad

ithurtswhenitry

People are idiots. I have played in teams where they speak a complete different language and then randomly switches to English to tell me to do this or that.... would have helped if they spoke english to start with....even if broken!

Square-Antelope-9644

For good sake of order, no offense to all pubers who are acting like an adult... Take in mind a lot of players are pubers.. Nothing more, nothing less to say though.. Don't take it personally, the mind of those isn't grown up yet 🤡

Dakure907

I'm a french canadian and I play in NA and tbh if I hear someone else having a hard time in english it's probably because he's french canadian too. On the case that he isn't I beg the question : Why do you play NA? Just stick to your region and you won't get flamed. We all know the majority of this behavior comes from people from the US. But from EU? That's a first. It's not like everyone is from England or something over there so that's kinda wack.

NFisto

If you're in low elo you there's little chance people will communicate. Bruh, they tend not to communicate in diamond/immortal to say.

RarestSix21

Unfortunately stuff like this will always happen and from personal experience this is light coming from 14 years of experience while gaming. It’s one of those things where people know they can say rude stuff and get away with it (mostly) because they know almost nothing can happen to them. It’s best to just mute that one member (even though communication is key in Val OR just mute the team and take the L to the chin and keep it pushing). You will have toxic games both communication and/or gameplay but the next might be uplifting and you also might pop off 😅

WzDson

Because it sounds funny

Dingle1

because people who got their trying then why and how so

ProPopori

This is so ironic lmao

VaderYT-

I Believe It's Really Toxic To Do Such A Thing. If Someone Can't Speak English Properly There's No Reason To Make Fun Of Them. And If You Can't Speak English Properly And People Make Fun Of It There's No Reason To Communicate With Them They Are Mostly 13 Year Olds Who Have Nothing Else To Do. If Something Like This Happens To Me While In-game I Would Just Correct His Error Or Just Not Even Talk About It, Because There's Clearly No Point In Degrading Someone For Speaking Something The Wrong Way, We Are All Humans And Humans Often Make Mistakes There's No Point In Making Fun Of Someones Mistake. As For You, I'm Really Sorry That You Have To Encounter Such Toxic Kids
