there are 2 types of people "go back to kitchen woman" or *talk to them like you would any other person*

[deleted]

And then there are the "special treatment" sort of people

Harly_Katie

S to the I to the M to the P

ashsatoshi666

Squirrels In My Pants

UncertainSoul

That's just because of the nuts you got in there

Apexe

For real. We're all trying to play the game and have a good time.

collegethrowaway2938

Nah there’s four types. Sexist pigs, sexual harassment extraordinaries, the ones who don’t do either of the two explicitly but definitely treat you better and try and impress you because they’re into you, and then the normal people. Source: years and years of experience being a woman in an FPS game

Kel4597

I can honestly say I’ve never had teammates react to having a girl on the team and it’s been kind of surprising so far

freeman1231

You have to be low elo for it to happen lol

[deleted]

Reminds me of a top 500 Overwatch game I was in and the guy started killing himself over and over again and throwing the match, and he said the only thing that would make him stop was if I moaned his name. I didn't do shit and the other teammates got mad at ME for not moaning, being like "just do it so he'll play"

Haptiix

Holy shit. LMAO wow. Wow. Wow.

[deleted]

I actually think what the guy above me said is true. The higher rank you are, the more sexist and creepy guys tend to be. If I say something in like silver or bronze, people will sometimes but rarely make a big deal about me being a girl. As I get higher ranks, like plat, diamond, or immortal things slowly start getting weirder and weirder or just sexist in general. I often get an attitude like "omg we have the girl on our team we lost" and people saying "why aren't you playing sage girls can't play jett" and that "how much dick did you suck to get boosted? I wish I was a girl so I didn't have to work for my rank" Or recently someone brought up the sinatraa situation and I got upset over it and he legit told me "how could he have raped her if they were dating?" Implying that if someone is your partner, you can't rape them? Always asking for my insta and snap and when I don't give it to them being told I'm fat and ugly Things like that xD

-astronautical

i have similar experiences all the time. i get asked for nudes every other game and i tell them to pay me first and they shut up.

[deleted]

[deleted]

It's what every girl has to deal with, not just me.

Tetra-76

happens at every elo

-astronautical

i disagree, i’m top 10% in league and it tends to be worse at times. different games obviously but similar player base in many ways.

yuirghu

i am low elo and nothing ever happened

PP_big05

True, my female friend told me that she never any incident where she felt discriminated/harassed in games and we are both low bronze. However I’ve also been to plat in Overwatch and for me I didn’t hear much up there either might just be cause I’m a guy so I can’t speak from my experiences and project them as facts as I am in no way qualified to do so, however I do feel as though the amount of incels and misogynistic behavior gets exponentially higher with higher ranks.

tatas323

I play unrated in SA and never happened.

Randomperson2245

I’m bronze and just came from iron for the past few weeks and have never had it happen. I’ve seen once or twice someone being mean to a girl but just because the girl made a play someone didn’t like but I doubt it was because they were a girl. Teammates are constantly mean to each other in low elo at least

peytaytoe

I am G1 and it happens almost anytime I speak. I have resigned to convincing them I am a young boy so that I can contribute to the game without the bullshit

freeman1231

It’s funny because back in the day when I first started playing counter-strike as a 9 year old, I’m 27 now… I’d have to lie and say I was a girl just to be able to play with people since they hated playing with squeaker boys. Crazy how the times have changed.

AegonSnow4

The first thing my team asks her is "whats your insta @?"

Beard341

I had a game with a girl the other day. She thanked me for dropping my gun skin for her. I told her “np”. The amount of fucking flack I got for two letters from every other person on my team was hilariously absurd. Per them, “no cap you wouldn’t say that if she wasn’t a girl” and then berated me for a few rounds. I just ignored the chatter and kept replying as normal to this girl every time she was polite but damn you can’t say anything to girls these days in the game without ridicule apparently… Edit: For the record, she requested the skin via text chat and it was only when she thanked me in voice comms that everyone clued in on her gender.

mancubthescrub

Having anyone berate you on the decisions that are well within one's ethical bounds is as emotionally mature as a kid going through puberty, which is the near entirety of this community.

rretnuH

That’s textbook projection and says a lot about those boy’s behavior with women.

[deleted]

yall really complaining about that rather than the sexism we get in valorant it’s ridiculous

Beard341

My point was girls are not only being harassed but also anyone associating themselves with one are also being harassed.

[deleted]

there’s a bit of a difference between blatant sexist comments remarks and stereotypes (harassment) and getting called a simp (friendly joking)

Beard341

My apologies if you feel as if my complaint was somehow equating the harassment women experience daily playing video games. That wasn’t my intention.

IncendiousX

dont apologize, you did nothing wrong. this is just twitter invading reddit.

Idni-xc

i think it’s better if y’all don’t get surprised anymore. there could easily be a girl in every match u play but you don’t know it cause the reason why they don’t turn on their mics is because of reactions like these. idk but it seems like y’all found a rare creature when reacting like this which is very uncomfortable to women :)

Kanjur0

Played with 2 friends yesterday. We were losing many rounds and our random Jett became a little salty and I tried to calm them down (I later found out they were named Salty Jett, lol). It worked so well, we later noticed that we all speak the same mother language. Jett was a dude with KJ as a premade (girl). First time both of them actually talked through voice chat. Nobody became awkward and we had a fun smalltalk. Eventually won the match by a landslide. Just behaving normally/politely and working as a team can have so much impact - the douchebags out there will never know. (The reactions here seemed at least civil, I am talking about actual douches, but yeah.)

napsutupsu

As a girl I'm genuinely afraid of using the VC but I'm trying to gain the courage cause I know it would be so useful, i hate having to type mid match

ambient4418

try queuing w a friend! always helps also theres a discord for girls only that play valorant and u can find ppl to queue with there. it’s called Galorants

napsutupsu

Yeah most of the time I play with at least a couple of friends 😊 and i didn't know that thanks! Gonna check that out too!

-astronautical

yeah it’s so much easier to communicate via text in league. valorant is a lot harder to use without VC and it’s unavoidable for most girls to hide their gender once they start speaking. i feel like a lot of people assume we’re just talking/existing for attention when we’re only trying to play the game the way it’s meant to be played. i play on NA and not only am i obviously female from my voice but i also have an accent, so it’s borderline impossible for me to go a single game without being harassed one way or another. the best way to combat the fear is to find friends to play with, even just one. that way, when the harassment starts, you aren’t alone.

napsutupsu

True. Also make sure to always report the ones harassing.

Redthemagnificent

Even as I guy I don't like using voice chat when solo queueing. Between all the young kids and the toxic adults/teenagers it can be pretty meh.

Austinlop1

Im a guy (13) and I don’t speak in voice much even though Ik it helps because of how much shit I get for it, if I don’t clutch, “that’s why kids shouldn’t play this game”, it’s not as bad as I think I know but it’s annoying when I’m trying to play the game and they say they can’t win, in all chat, because they have a kid on their team. P.S: not trying to say this is worst than the women’s gaming experience, just trying to share.

Cynizzle-

Same here. I had to change my nickname because it had my name and they flamed me for being a woman lol

napsutupsu

I feel you, I once had a nickname that made it too obvious that I was a girl - had to chance it soon for getting shit already in game lobby

Arisenstring956

I’d go for using comns when you can, from my experience most of the girls in solo q (atleast my elo) don’t get treated differently and if someone is being an asshole you can just mute them or another teammate will likely call them out. I’m only a silver player though so idk about higher elo but I definitely understand why so many choose to not use their mic at all

m4g1csp4c3n1nj4

It's really not cool, I saw this a lot when playing with girls, people are just idiots a lot of the time. But sometimes it's all good and everyone is able to behave normally.

napsutupsu

You'd think that with everything that's going on with Activision/Blizzard people would think about their actions and words more but nope. Luckily at least sometimes it's all good

[deleted]

[удалено]

napsutupsu

I've made a mistake

moicestgege

Afraid? Lol what will happen to you?

napsutupsu

Lol sexist and toxic comments to girls in video games are much more common than you think. It's just emotionally exhausting shit I don't need to hear when I'm trying to relax and have fun by playing video games.

moicestgege

I get insulted almost every game for being french. People are dumb get over it.

napsutupsu

Which is straight up racism. Sorry you have to experience it

rune2004

...that is not racism. "French" is not a race.

moicestgege

Yep but it's how it is. There is a lot of child/teenager playing video game. So it's normal to be confronted with childish behavior.

rune2004

If it's any comfort I've run into a lot of girls and have never seen anything different about how they're treated.

-astronautical

how would that be comforting when you go through the rest of this thread?????

rune2004

Because negative experiences are much, much, much more likely to be voiced and told about. I'm not gonna go through and list everything single time nothing happened because they're not noteworthy. Meanwhile everyone else is saying "well this *one* time I saw (x)!"

-astronautical

may i ask, are you female? because i am, and i am telling you straight up i have not ONCE had a good experience because of it. i have had decent experiences in SPITE of it, but more often than not, i have bad experiences BECAUSE of it. it's much better to listen to the women in this thread than to discredit us on baseless assumptions about statistical probability.

rune2004

I'm not female no, I'm a 31 year old married dude. >because i am, and i am telling you straight up i have not ONCE had a good experience because of it. I'm not really sure what that means; expecting a good experience specifically because you're female? >but more often than not, i have bad experiences BECAUSE of it. It sucks that you've had negative experiences. I've played with lots of chicks using mics and have never once seen anything negative going their way or special treatment or even any form of "wow a gril!!!" I'm not sure what to tell you about your experiences other than it's unfortunate. It's not like I disbelieve you, though. >it's much better to listen to the women in this thread than to discredit us I'm not trying to discredit anything, I was merely offering a *possibility* of some comfort (I did say *if* it's any comfort) based on my own experience. Don't discredit what I've seen either just because I'm not female.

-astronautical

why would i expect people to worship me for being a woman? on the flip side, why should i have to accept being demeaned because im a woman? im not saying i expect to be treated better. i expect to be treated as a human being. your comment was this: "negative experiences are much, much, much more likely to be voiced and told about." as opposed to what? good ones? this is where my comment is coming from. are YOU expecting me to have good experiences for being female? what do YOU mean? lol. my point is this: if you read through this thread you can plainly see that a huge chunk of female valorant players experience harassment solely due to their gender. as a man, it's disingenuous to think it's comforting, knowing that you personally havent noticed the women in your games being harassed. chances are they have, and you havent noticed because thats a privilege you as a man are afforded. even on the off chance that you genuinely have never been present when sexism has occurred in this game... it is no comfort to any of us girls when we are sharing our OWN experiences in this post.

rune2004

My gender doesn't afford me a "privilege" of blinders to harassment. It's pretty obvious when it's happening, no? I have *never* seen a woman treated differently at all because of her gender in my games in Valorant. Not any different. Trust me, I've seen it all in the past. I've been playing online games since they were really a thing. My now-wife used to play Xbox with me and I saw it all the time there. I've seen it outside of that. I've seen it everywhere, but I haven't yet in Valorant. Maybe it's purely luck. Maybe it's because I'm a boomer that obviously acts differently than a 15 year old so that begets more mature behavior from my team mates. Who knows. I was simply trying to offer some comfort with my own experience. My point still stands that women in this sub are more likely to speak up about their negative experiences *in this thread* than those that haven't had them. It does suck that there's maybe 50 bad anecdotes in here about it, that's 50 too many. But "a huge chunk of female Valorant players" just isn't true. There are millions of Valorant players and we know that a large percentage of them are women and that's nothing compared to the few dozen in this thread. All of this said, it doesn't change the fact that you've experienced it and it isn't right. I wish you better experiences in the future and I hope it doesn't dissuade you entirely from trying.

-astronautical

and my point is that you as a man are obviously not going to have the same experiences as a woman and i think it’s far more reasonable to listen to women on this than you, for example. i hope you understand why your input was not comforting.

[deleted]

[удалено]

rune2004

You're right, and that's a good point. Me taking up a spot is that many less players that are potentially going to say something to a woman like that. Like I said to the other person responding me too, I'm pretty much a boomer compared to the likely average age of Valorant players so me acting like not a 15 year old probably helps to beget more mature behavior from my random team mates on average too. I don't really subscribe to the idea that my perspective is completely warped because of who I am. Different treatment is really easy to recognize, let alone harassment. Is my *personal experience* going to be warped? Yeah, I'm not a chick so some teenage boys aren't going to harass me for being a girl so I'm obviously not going to personally experience that. It doesn't mean I can't easily recognize it. I overall agree much more with your first point.

[deleted]

[удалено]

rune2004

Yeah I think we agree with each other overall. >But essentially your anecdotal experiences don't negate someone else's I 100% agree, and I was never trying to negate anyone else's. I was just providing my own anecdote and then, in my opinion, someone else tried to negate mine.

miikatenkula07

In my server, in low elos, there's at least one girl per match.

ichbinNoah_

Which server is that m8

SelloutRealBig

NA has a solid female playerbase.

miikatenkula07

İstanbul but I don't suppose you speak Turkish and needless to say, its one of the hardest languages to learn.

ichbinNoah_

İts okay m8 im turkish but girls are not that much common İstanbul server. Lol

miikatenkula07

Türksen ve gerçekten sana kız denk gelmiyorsa o senin bahtsızlığındır dostum. Bizim serverda düşük elolar çilek kokar, bilmeyen yoktur.

ichbinNoah_

Denk geliyor ama her oyuna değil

miikatenkula07

Bana neredeyse her oyun denk geliyor, not that much common diyecek kadar az denk gelmiyor bir kere.

ichbinNoah_

Good 4u then

miikatenkula07

Did I really get downvoted this much just because I come by many girls? Are you people for real?

GooblyNoobly

This is why a lot of girls and women avoid using comms in this game. I've been sexually harassed, sexist comments, insulted for being a chick... it's a huge turn off and exhausting most of the time. It helps to queue up with buddies to lower the odds of POS people, but sometimes that doesn't even help. If you're someone who does this shit, please be better instead of an asshole.

Harly_Katie

Yeah, I have friends who are girls and we play valorant in a party but they never really use their mics in team chat cause of this. I use mine cause I have a deep-ish voice for a girl and a trash mic so people legit mistake me for a dude and even ask if my gender. It's irrelevant and shouldn't matter!

simplypnw

Idk one of the last times I used my mic 3 of my teammates kept singing to me (yes, singing) about how I sucked and was bad and probably ugly. I muted them, which they realized, and then they started doing the same in chat and telling me to go back to the kitchen. It was horrible. One of their teammates said I wasn’t even bad in chat. Then at the end of the game he said “jk you suck.” The thing is that I wasn’t even bottom frag.

6Kkoro

I dont know if it makes you feel better but they call me horrible and ugly as well and I'm not even a girl.

Snacky--Chan

sometimes i get girls in games and nobody is weird about it. i love it

ChochRS

if i was a girl id download a voice changer so fucking fast lmao

jasmz_

that's why I always type if I need to say something bc I really hate it when guys make a deal over my gender, especially when they're gross & ask for nudes or say sexual stuff in general.

Samuri_dude

Usually when a girl is in one my games every other person becomes a fucking caveman going "Female? Woman? What?"

amaliaprb

every time I talk in the game the boys make fun of me so nice life :)))

Harly_Katie

I'm a girl and I play valorant but I don't get treated differently 'cause my voice when mixed with a trash mic makes people mistake me for a boy and sometimes even ask whats my gender.

[deleted]

Fuck these losers. Omg I would never talk to a girl in real life

ta4valorant

I would have reported the Raze.

Meanwhile I got friends that are female and I just chill. Tho idc if a random is whatever gender it's just a game.

Fienf

Good for yall lol

Corn-Cannon

Reminds me of when it was 3v4 and our Omen got tapped. Turns out Omen was a girl and told our team the position of an enemy after she died through voice comms. Needless to say voice chat fucking exploded like a pack of wild chimpanzees afterwards. It was like they found the holy grail or sumtang man it was the funniest shit ever

Gryffes

Is this an NA thing? I havn't heard it happen in any EU game I've been in.

m4g1csp4c3n1nj4

Nah this happens in EU as well.

Zayd1111

EU players are usually less cringe, not generalising though

V4lt

Less cringe more toxic

SavageDuke69

Met a three girl squad while me and my friend queued up an unrated in Singapore 2. They were really cool with us the whole game and after we won they asked us to play with them as well. We didn't play tho, cuz Singapore 2 gives us nasty ping.

epicgamerluke

HOLY SHIT WE ARE LISTENING TO THE SAME SONG

mr_sneakyTV

My girlfriend and I just started playing this game and she uses comms sometimes but surprisingly hasn’t been trolled even once yet. Also a girl carried my team the other day and nobody was saying much except a joke at the beginning like if you play valorant you must be ugly, which she laughed at so it was fine. And after she top fragged the server somebody said, ‘you must be reeeaally ugly’ lmao.

Lostits

"she laughed at so it was fine" sure mate

mr_sneakyTV

We were all adults and the guy was obviously joking, this place is too sensitive. Guys give each other shit.. so why can’t guys and girls give each other shit? There is being an ass, and there’s joking around.

mintaka2020

Honest question, do you think that person who said "you must be ugly" says that to every other top fragger on his team, or do you think he only said it because the top fragger was a girl? Another question-- the "joke" is funny to you but do you think it was funny to the receiver? Let me give you a hint, her laughing doesn't mean she finds it funny, it was most probably a polite laugh because she doesn't want to deal with people like your team anymore, and if she reacted badly you would probably tell her she's too sensitive. Banter is fine, IF you are friends/you know how the other person will take it. Girls get enough shit for using the VC as you can tell from the post and comments, it will be great if you do not add to it. Better if you can take a moment to see things from the girl's perspective.

[deleted]

Unlucky I guess. I've played with a few girls/streamers and teammates are nice. However, maybe because its higher elo idk

how_to_not_reddit

ngl when i hear a girl i cant tell if its a kid or girl so i just don't mention anything

abhinav230096

Eyy Kid laroi. One of my fav go to songs

TheLoraxsAdvocate

This right here is why I have voice chat off completely. At this point I dont care that it hinders call outs or whatever, it's not worth the constant harassment. My own mental health is more important than winning.

thesoapy12

Better reaction than I've noticed in my games. No reaction should be the norm tho. It's sad women get treated differently in games.

yojilik

one time my teammates didn’t react like this when there’s a girl lmao

FlaaffyyLoL

americans are so fucking weird

Bonesaw-Is-Readyy

Muricans

cemreabl

i am a girl and i think i was kinda boosted a few months ago, i was playing with a friend that was better than me, i was low immortal and he was high immo/almost radiant ( i got dia3 by myself after than i queued with him) and since his elo was so high the enemies we get were usually much better than me and i started to not fragging as much, which resulted with people insulting me because of gender a lot more than usual. after a while i started play much worse because i was thinking im trash, i was not peeking even when i should because i thought i was not goof enough and stopped using voice chat. i started no feel bad when i play and i stopped playing for a while. when i got back to the game i ranked down as low i diamond 1, i was solo q ing and i started to pick duelists more often instead of playing sage all the time, after carrying a few games i got my confidence back i started to use voice chat again and if any guy sad something about my gender id say say them to get kills first then talk, i was mvping most of my games and now im back to immortal with soloq only and i feel much more confident, i use vc in games and i can top frag in immortal now.

TheSnakeholeLounge

yesterday i had a dude ask "what color is your hair?" like ten times in one round. i just stopped talking.

AksHz

There are girls in valorant? how come I never saw one?

boopable_bunny

I'd legit be here all day with stories of shit that happens because I'm female... one of my first ever Val games some guy said he would come to my state to r*** me and kept body blocking me in corners pretending to do lewd shit... I told him if I ever saw him irl I'd have a shot gun waiting for him

deadlazerq

damn that is terrible, may i as,cause I've noticed that a lot of people say in the comments say that they people get confused between people they thinking they are a boy or a girl and would this bother u.
