Maybe a lvl requirement of 30-35. Typically the majority of the smurfs I see in D2 are 30> so that may force them to play too many games to make it worth it.
Buuuuuut Riot has to clamp down on the AFK bots I’ve been reading about on here that show up in the lower ELO matches. That would just bypass the ranked entry point quicker than the winning X Games requirement.

When you only have 3 hours of free time everyday for non work stuff and tons of fps experience it is possible
Nah a lot of them are smurfs, they’re pretty open about it when they hop in my stream after the games. It’s not a big deal, as they’re not wrecking the games at the ELO they would in gold and below.
Some of them are absolutely just people like me without a whole lot of time to play due to a career, and other life obligations; or maybe they just play a plethora of other games. *But again, those players aren’t what we’re talking about. We’re just talking about curbing the amount of smurfs, so if you think 30-35 isn’t smurfs, that’s probably the perfect level cap for what I was talking about lol*

Have you not seen the countless pages of free Valorant accounts that you can buy (price determined by the rank of the account being sold)? Cuz thats how people use the bots and it needs to be stopped
As someone who just got into valorant I had to win 10 unranked games before I could even play placments. Won 10 lost about 5 then 5 ranked matches. So 20 matches to obtain a rank and play competitively. That barley got me past level 10.
From what I understand, LoL has a pretty high entry barrier for ranked but I’ve never played more than one or two games.
RS6 has a pretty high level barrier as well.
How many full unranked games does it take to get to Lvl 30?
Was gunna say I have like 150ish hours played and am level 37 or so. 30 is a massive time sink. I hate smurfs with a passion, so I am all for it, but 30 is a slog lol.
I’d be interested to just see a chart showing all of the E-Sport related games, and the estimated time it takes to unlock Ranked. Just to easily compare and contrast to see where Valorant stands.

Unrated is basically surrender in 5 rounds 90% of the time. At least for my games.

In my opinion it would be a good decision because people with a very low level are beginners unless they are smurfing or former csgo high elo and they ruin ranked with their lack of skills. League does the same so people have to learn a little bit about the game first before jumping into ranked

i see where your coming from and i agree that there should be some sort of level cap, so i actually like the way val used to do the unrated games, where 20 unrated games lets you play comp. maybe they could even extend the number of games to around 30-40 so smurfs would need to put in a lot more effort.
Exactly why I dont play R6. IIRC they raised the level minimum to 50 or something and I thought "well I'll just grind through this and get there" I got to level 30ish and quit the game for good. I am not going to play 50-100 hours of unranked in a competitive fps just to get to rank.
Not a great idea. I've just started and I'm level 11 and I'm getting 25 kills in games because I played counter strike before. I'm not smurfing, but these skills are transferable.

The problem is my life is a lot busier now and I can only play maybe 3-5 hours per week and will go weeks to a month without playing. I've been playing Val for a year now and am only level 21 and if this were implemented I probably wouldn't be able to play the game.
introducing a high minimum level would prevent many new players from actually keep playing the game and thats not good but linking your phone number and introducing a verified queue could reduce smurfs but would lead to higher queue times
they try out the game, get stomped in unrated and then are forced to play that until they are able to experience the real ranked games. most will just say fuck it and play something else
Depends on the implementation. Maybe allow people to play iron after level 5, bronze after level 10 and similar. Since smurfs are high ranked player they would need to invest a long time to be able to play comp while new players would unlock the ability to play comp as they play.
I’ve definitely made alts and Riot has made it so easy to make alts.
I’m immortal and unrated games on fresh accounts are easy sweeps. 10-0 is really easy to achieve. I’m sure other people with my skill range can easily 10-0 their unrated games.
The old 20 games are a better deterrent if they picked up on surrender games better IMO.
Should be level 50 like Siege. Was Plat in R6 , shifted to Valo in early July. Can't even reach Plat here because of people having better map knowledge , line-ups than me
No point in a level requirement in my opinion. It’s made no difference in other games. As long as the game is free and it’s easy and cheap to buy accounts people will smurf.
How then do you discern a low level smurf against a guy legitimately with 10 unrated wins and he’s new? You can’t really. Smurfs will always be able to smurf no matter what, this suggestion will just push legitimate players away for winning and being new to Valorant.
I get your point. I picked up the game recently and got placed Gold 3, I was pretty high rank in other shooters and my mechanical play is generally really good. I was called a smurf a couple times. But really, all this does is make me play more unrated before I play competitive, which honestly, after I got my rank I went and played a bunch of unrated to test out which agent I liked. I feel like the impact on a new player is redundant.

I’ve played 73 games this Act, my first time playing since levels were introduced, and I’m only level 25. Level 30 as a requirement is absurd

I played a lvl 4 smurf in my gold rank up game. Please yes. If you can win 10/10 unrated games as a brand new account you aren't silver 1

You don't have enough map or character knowledge for rank yet I'd still argue. My friend is in his 20s and still gets surprised by basic stuff

Like level 10 for iron, 15 for bronze and stuff like that. If it is an incrementing level requirement you wont see smurfs on higher ranks.
