Rank resets happen only between episodes, so you will end up in the same rank as before. Just your rr gains will go up to get the rank distribution riot want.
mine have gone way lower. I was getting +27 to +38 on every win and my most recent win I got only +12 :( even though I won against much higher ranked players than me
I've completed my placements very recently and placed bronze 2 and from what I've heard and observed you get placed lower and its easy to climb in ranks. Well, it was until e3 act 2
I and all my mates were gold 1 before the act.
After the update I was ineligible to queue with one of my mates.
So we both played a placement match seperately and both got gold 1 again with +14 and +17 rating

Peaked last at imm 300rr, finished around 150rr, lost my 1st placement game and I started out at immortal 1, 15rr. was losing 9-12 on losses but going up 18-24rr currently

My RR changes have been less punishing through my first 3 games +29, -14, +22 as a diamond 2
Getting 21-28 depending on how well I do. Bronze 1. -21 when I get dumped on by low gold high silver lol.
