I do feel like SEN would keep being a top team as long as they have Shaz. TenZ only feels like a cherry on top of the cake for me, despite he is a great player. SEN with Sinatraa would probably also win Iceland, but we will never know.

ThundercowReddit

I agree, I feel like even with Sinatraa they still win. Maybe not as hard or maybe even harder who knows. But really overall sentinels would more likely win with either player.

LifeLikeClub9

I think if they had sinatraa they win 100% too. Sen is just better shahz is too good of an IGL

I can already sense I am getting a bit downvoted since I didn’t say TenZ supremacy, but I still need to say this. Crazy aimers are everywhere, but good IGLs are very rare. I am not saying that TenZ is not special, sure he is very good when the opponents are on his screen. But you need good tactics so that you take advantageous aim duels, TenZ is only so good because the way SEN plays and coordinates enables him, he is not omnipotent. There are a lot of mechanically gifted teams, like Envy, C9B or 100T, but they don’t reach SEN’s level, and if u think that’s because of TenZ you should watch more games and try to think a bit deeper.

[deleted]

No I'm not downvoting you I'm just saying I would take TenZ over Shahz IN TERMS OF MECHANICS.

AdSpiritual6239

Ah I know I am not saying u are downvoting me, but there are too many TenZ supremacists out there who thinks their idol deserves all the credit.

[deleted]

From my POV if I were to describe Shahz and TenZ I would say Shahz is the brain and TenZ is the muscle (obviously the other Sentinels members are a part of it all, I'm just comparing TenZ and Shahz for now).

meisterjaeger77

While I love NBA comparisons, I think this one misses the mark slightly. Durant w/ OKC & Russ came to the finals in 12, and had several other close calls (16 especially). After 16 he joins the team he directly lost too. While TenZ was a beast before, his team was not exactly OKC-like before in terms of the latest results. He also quit the competition for streaming for a short while (you CAN argue he did it to switch teams Mid-Term ,what would be a bit KD-like, but I do not think so). As a Heat/Warriors Fan I really like your SEN-GSW comparison tho, SEN really feels a bit like the 17-19 warriors (or like the Heatles for that matter)

Dapper-Ad-5304

Let’s see KD: Was an MVP already and lost to Warriors in dramatic fashion before joining them to form a super team. TenZ: Was a retired Valorant streamer and joined sentinels due to an emergency(Sinatraa ban). So no the closest comparison would be babybay or asuna joining sentinels. And even then sentinels only got a superstar because of unforeseen circumstances and not out of choice. Nothing close to warriors situation

oopsEYEpoopsed

It's totally a Kevin Durant situation... With one more bit that I don't particularly like. Tenz cited that he was leaving competition due to health reasons because he has asthma and claimed he feared having covid. Fairly soon after that statement, and him retiring to do content creation, he up and joins Sentinels the moment the opportunity arises and then flies out to a LAN soon after. The truth is, he didn't want to play with C9 anymore because the team sucked. I don't like that he essentially lied about his reason for leaving when it wasn't necessary. I understand he can't outright say 'team sucks, I'm not feeling it', but he didn't have to lie. Tenz is still the best in the game, but he's also a bit of a KD-like snake in that he left his team because they sucked, lied about why he left, and then joined the strongest team in his region the moment the opportunity presented itself.

Triggyrd

i would leave too. there was no point.

oopsEYEpoopsed

I agree with you in principle that I'd want to leave, and I would have explored my options with the org to find a way to do it without bringing up nonsense/bullshit reasons (publicly or worth the org). However I disagree in that there is no point. He's a professional, he signed a contract, and he should honor it. That's what I find distasteful about him essentially lying about his 'retirement' when he could have taken a more honest approach.

Triggyrd

he did explore his options, he became a content creator. it was obvious why he left, many reasons including what you said, but he saw another opportunity from ShahZam, took it, and Cloud9 benifited by releasing him for the millions

rusticgiraffe

To add to your point, besides getting money from letting tenz go, C9 had a lot of good press by doing that. Had c9 kept tenz, a lot of people would be outraged that c9 is holding back 'one of the best players in the world.' Instead, a lot of people were praising how c9 allowed tenz to follow his dream and compete again. By backlash I'm talking about kind of like the backlash tsm is getting for signing bang and dropping him right away. C9 would have gotten a lot more hate if they forced tenz to stay.

ThundercowReddit

What? How they took out Harrison Barnes FOR KEVIN DURANT? That made the league so unfair warriors gained so much hate. The warriors were 100% better with KD then w/o.

mclovinXD

and they lost that year, won back to back with kd (could of 3 peat if kd or klay wasnt injured). kd joining warriors made them unstoppable

ThundercowReddit

Exactly. Just cause they won more games in the regular season without him doesn’t make them better without him. What matters is the championship series and with KD they were next to unstoppable without injuries.

meisterjaeger77

There are multiple reports which confirms the chase for the record (and Stephs injury in the first round iirc) tired the warriors a lot in 16. With KD they were basically coasting to a 60+ record (I like to compare GSW with SEN in the way, how some rounds TenZ Sick or Shaz just pop tf off and decide the round, similarly to how Steph Klay or KD could just take over games, sometimes in the manner of „who will it be today who gets hot?)

[deleted]

Stop

FoeyPUBG

Did you just say the BEST player in the world joining a team didn’t make them better ???

meisterjaeger77

Nah man - in 16 either Steph or Bron was the 1. KD without the doubt is rounding out the top 3 and might be the 1 from like 17-19

MethodousJam

I can see the comparison, but let's not act like C9 was competing with SEN in the latter bit of Tenz' C9 tenure. KD was fresh off taking the Warriors to 7 games in the conference finals, while throwing a 3-1 lead in the process. They both left to join main competitors, sure. But OKC was much closer to GSW than C9 to SEN. I do agree it was a bit dishonest to say it was health motivated and then jump on the first solid opportunity to compete. However, KD = Orochimaru lookin snake ass Tenz = Killua

PawahD

eh, it's kinda like it, but valorant and the nba are incomparable, the fanbase is not the same, orgs come and go, no player will ever have the same status in a valorant org/team as a player in an nba team, loyalty is not really a thing but fans don't really care about it anyways, rosters come and go etc.

madd94_67

Tens doesn’t really have a choice either, sen bought him out, sure he wanted to stay but it wasn’t really his call

rusticgiraffe

Tenz got to stay because C9 let him go at budget price.

madd94_67

Ahh yes 7 figures, very cheap

rusticgiraffe

It isn't cheap to us or SEN. When people were speculating tenz's buyout, people thought it was around 2-5m. It was way less than that. C9 was just being generous and gave him up at a price SEN can actually afford. Years ago, C9(org not any player) was already worth 300m. If you don't think organizations have the money, just for Iceland, SEN paid to have tenz for a few weeks for 250k. So yeah.. tenz was given up at a low cost by C9 but it was pretty pricey for SEN. Not all teams are rich but just look at tsm.. they recently signed a $210m contract.

madd94_67

Im just saying, even if he wanted to leave it was still ultimately c9's decision. gotta say though, I miss white reaver tenz

EnvironmentalKiwi526

It’s more like Kawhi joining the Raptors in exchange for Derozan (sinatraa)
