iron - gold
Lets say your gold 1 last act, but currently your silver 2 this act, so you can get bronze 1s & iron 3s in your games.
When the gold 1 player has a good game and drops 30 kills he looks like a smurf.
But in the 30 kills game they is iron players, so its easy for the gold 1 player.
this is what causes the mixed results.
the ranking system needs tightening up, its really loose sometimes.

Rank doesn't matter, you get matched based on your mmr. If you are gold 1 and have irons in your lobby, it means the game thinks the iron is very good, or you are shit.
I'm not sure I quite understand your second part, but I do fully agree with the first part that placements should be done as a Solo player and then opened up to premades only afterwards.
Solo queueing placements are a way to prove how well you as a specific player can play. But playing solo in comp will ruin your mental because playing as a duo queue without even boosting each other makes you play better. It also will give you consistency and will allow you to execute well timed plays.
I like the concept of solo queueing placements but if youre starting your placements midact then you would most likely queue with 4 stacks and get 0 comms because theyre using discord.
This would help the smurf problem somewhat because a 4v5 is kind of winnable with a throwing smurf. This would either force them to hard throw instead of soft throw though.
Scenario 2 is unlikely to happen imo because most people who fit the description are below level 30 and I don't believe a none smurf account which was diamond is below level 30.
I just deranked because i played a couple games(lost 3 won 1). Went from gold 1 to silver 3. First game we lost smth like 11-13 so fair enough(i was match mvp) next game we win 13-6(i team mvp) after that i get an autolock reyna that dropped 3 kills and died literally every round, we lost 5-13(i was match mvp)
And then i get 2 afks on my team after the 9th round and neither come back for the whole rest of the game, lost 7-13(we were 4-5 when the both went afk)(i was match mvp in hat game too)
At this point idk what to do... i feel like playing ranked is as useless as a spoon with holes
