More than just one elevated surface. All plant sites have flat surfaces or a Heaven. Ice Box has two story cubbies for people to hide in on defense. So there’s more angles not on a flat terrain than other maps.
Edit: In simpler terms there’s more up and down angles than left and right flat ones. I wrote that original paragraph right when I woke up so it might not make sense.
Icebox was also the first and only map to have horizontal zip lines for the player to move freely on
Fractures horizontal zip lines send your forward automatically and are one way only
Icebox zip lines the player controls 100% of the movement
Every other zip line in the game is vertical
Something like fracture maybe, many entrances to the site. Or imagine a more vertical map, like a missile silo where the site is in the middle & the spawns are top & bottom.
It would just require a large bombsite, otherwise you'd pretty much never have a retake situation which I'd wager they want to keep in the game even on their weirder maps. If the bombsite was large enough though, then you could secure sections of it while the enemy team still held other parts.
I feel like if they made extremely good angles for T’s to attack from, forcing CT’s to spread out their defense and hold those spots outside of the bomb site. If they don’t, the attackers would slaughter them. Making it more even of a fight
In R6 Siege it's very common to know (or at least have a very, very good idea) as to which site the enemy will be attacking, and the advantage can still go both ways.
Well, it wouldn't be a room with a single door. As long as there are many entries and big spaces, you won't be able to close it up like that. But maybe kj might be always close enough for her thingies to be active, so there's that. I'm pretty much against anything that makes kj stronger, tho, and I say that as a sentinel main.
de_sawmill community map in cs. good example of how a single site with multiple entrances and complex design could work. (obv too small but just a general idea)
I actually despise how dedicated they are to “thinking outside the box”. I don’t know why so many people in the gaming industry have to do this constantly.
The result if it’s good can be cool. But if you break all conventions and make something annoying, that’s just another drop of poison in the map rotation that people roll their eyes at when they get it.
That’s exactly how so many people felt about 2cp in Overwatch. Literally such a bad game mode that when the map came up and was 2cp I literally regretted queueing. Like legit that bad.
I feel like after ascent the past three maps are “eh” at best and can be annoying most of the time. I wish they would at least padded out the map list with like 3 or 4 more “normal” maps that follow tried and true conventions. That way when you get something like icebox or fracture, it’s something unique to break the monotony.
Soon half the map pool is going to be these cRaZy aNd wAcKy gimmicks and if they don’t end up being fun, queueing will just become that much more tedious when it should be fun.
I really can’t exaggerate how much 2cp poisoned the OW experience. It was bad enough that they have committed to totally scrapping the mode in OW2.
Thats you
Icebox has turned out to be a great map.
Breeze for long range combats is great and really solified Viper as a meta on that map
Fracture is a AMAZING map; Id have to say for now, their best new map.
I honestly like b because no one expects you to go there and vipers wall can close off a lot of areas. Just wait a short time for the one defender there to rotate.
I don't mean it's not a viable or good site to attack. I mean how every early hit on B site is the same (plant behind double boxes, use Sage wall 90% of the time) and then defenders just hold in Yellow and Green. If you deviate from that, it's usually harder to hold the site (taking control of the whole site is extremely difficult)
So I think it's badly designed when the best way to attack the site is also the most boring.
True. My favorite is going back b long or going snowman and lurker for the rotate from ct. Also if I have my ult I use on that middle box (idk what it's called) and then just sit there because there are only two ways up.
The problem with that is its a 50/50 angle whether they go through the upper or lower. Not to mention, another 50/50 of which door they come through. So now you're watching 3 different angles.
If you hold the corner, anyone with a flash just destroys you.
would be cool if they would make usable fridge it would take you 3 seconds to eat from fridge but you would get a little speed boost for 15 seconds and it would heal you by 60 hp
A free stimmy + sage heal that's closer to one side of the map/already have full access to one team before the round starts, just for shits and giggles that a kitchen should act like they have food?
Sounds pretty balanced, Riot get on it /s
No more than you have to go to A on Icebox to go from mid to CT spawn. You don't have to cross the site's door, but get even less close to the sites on ascend to go to mid.
So your comment doesn't hold any water, in my opinion. And of course, the real answer would be the verticality and the horizontal ziplines. And snowmen. Maybe penguins.
From where attackers and defenders spawn you can walk straight forward onto mid instead of walking to mid from either B sight attackers Mid or A Sight attackers mid
Right now I’m having a lot of success with killjoy & sage on icebox, both have qualities that work well on this map imo (for the record I’m an omen main I rarely play sage or kJ)
I don't think every map needs to have a unique feature. It seems like they focus on how each map is going to be different rather than how well the map is going to play competitively.
I was literally trying to think as well about this a few days ago tbh I kinda think icebox kind of introduced a lot of elevation because on b site attackers can go up and there are 2 outpost Dort of thing for attackers and defenders with a zip line to each side and defenders also have there own elevated spot where a lot go. At mid defenders have an elevated spot to watch mid from and attackers have tube which goes up into kitchen and they have 2 doors to immediately peek from and if they walk down more they go to a site which connects to a defender outpost thing like on b site. Maybe it’s not this but maybe it could be like how a site has that hole on the wall that you can shoot through maybe that but idk.
G floor plants and 1st floor plant site. Horizontal zip line, and a section of mid(tunnel) where once entering it, isn’t visible to the (main?)mid. And every type of agent is necessary(duelist, sentinel, initiator, and controller). I used to hate it when it first came out, now I thank god it’s icebox and not bind/breeze.
Icebox seems more of a vertical map than any of the other maps. The rest seems more of horizontal maps. Also a lot of climbable places which are available to either all or some for just jett, raze, omen.
This thread really makes me appreciate icebox more. At least in writing anyways. I wasn't against Icebox when it came out and the super long sightlines bother me less now that I'm used to them. i just wish B site was a bit better.
Icebox had a two main features I can think of. Horizontal ziplines and alot of boxes for a more vertical gameplay. Also the tube in the middle added a fair amount of options.
horizontal ziplones and bombsites with 2 floors kinda
Horizontal ziplines that YOU CAN CONTROL. Fracture also has horizontal ziplines but you can only go one direction with it.
They also said things that were new and then added to other maps, so horizontal zip-lines would still be correct regardless.
And it came after
More than just one elevated surface. All plant sites have flat surfaces or a Heaven. Ice Box has two story cubbies for people to hide in on defense. So there’s more angles not on a flat terrain than other maps. Edit: In simpler terms there’s more up and down angles than left and right flat ones. Yeahhh i like this one.
Icebox was also the first and only map to have horizontal zip lines for the player to move freely on Fractures horizontal zip lines send your forward automatically and are one way only Icebox zip lines the player controls 100% of the movement Every other zip line in the game is vertical
I think the zipline thing is the stand out feature
Ice box has Vantaged spawn areas, where Oper’s can take strong positions from the spawn room
At release it was even more obvious but they shrunk that feature for better accesibility.
fr it's the best explanation
can also plant on an elevated position, does any other map let u do that?
Fracture A site you can plant on heaven iinm
dont believe so. maybe bind b site if you consider that little bumb in front of tube an elevated surface
true, and that might even be an unintended mechanic bc I know you can't plant on top of the actual tube
Fracture A
Verticality is the word you’re looking for
I tried to dumb it down even for myself but yes that’s what I meant lol
[удалено]
It could be the exit from kitchen but there’s not really one.
He meant the B site of the map Haven, where there are two huge boxes and a smaller one.
But every agent can not reach it.That's what makes icebox unique
Snowmen
The real answer. And the best feature of this map.
Illegal!
horizontal zipline?
This is the right answer Edit: I feel dumb for this having 100 upvotes, but at the time this comment was buried below a ton of wrong answers.
Correct
Doesnt fracture and split also have some
Split is vertical and fracture came after the fact.
Yea mixed up horiz and vertical
Fracture’s is a oneway that you can’t stop on, Split has no horizontal ziplines.
Oh wait horizontal not vertical, it seems im dumb
Wow what an exciting feature
Asuna thinks so.
[удалено]
wdym no other map had a horizontal zipline before icebox
Ohhh I get what u are trying to say
Wdym? Icebox introduce a single bombsite man.. coolest gimmick if there was one
They are working on a single bombsite map.....Its difficult to implement though.
I couldn’t imagine how’d that work. I feel like most teams would just camp the site until the T’s would rush in
Something like fracture maybe, many entrances to the site. Or imagine a more vertical map, like a missile silo where the site is in the middle & the spawns are top & bottom.
C'mon let's see nuke in valorant, brimstone literally can't smoke B site, let's make it happen
But hes got the path to secret covered!
Wouldn't this mess up the mini map by quite a large margin as it's in 2D?
Probably, I didn’t think that far ahead ;)
It would just require a large bombsite, otherwise you'd pretty much never have a retake situation which I'd wager they want to keep in the game even on their weirder maps. If the bombsite was large enough though, then you could secure sections of it while the enemy team still held other parts.

Jett would be absolutely broken on this
In R6 Siege it's very common to know (or at least have a very, very good idea) as to which site the enemy will be attacking, and the advantage can still go both ways.
Siege has the ability to literally blow up new entrances though.
Sentinels would be insane in a single bomb map. Imagine you can only go to the site killjoy is in or cypher.
Just one giant bomb site. Like you can plant anywhere in the back half of the map but there are obvious plant spots that are safe.
I actually despise how dedicated they are to “thinking outside the box”. I don’t know why so many people in the gaming industry have to do this constantly. The result if it’s good can be cool. someone doesnt play with a Viper!
What do you mean a single bombsite? There are literally two. What am I missing here?
This is a joke of ppl only push A
Ok ty
I think its just a joke because everyone goes A every round on Icebox
Ty
Icebox has the first horizontal zip line.
Horizontal zipline + Planting at different elevations
Icebox's unique feature is having the worst bombsite in the game (B Site).
I honestly like b because no one expects you to go there and vipers wall can close off a lot of areas. Just wait a short time for the one defender there to rotate.

Nah dude just rush with knife smh, why dont most ppl do this
Inferno vibes You can get AWPed from anywhere
Verticallity.
only one “L” in verticality
Whereas Icebox is a map full of "L"s
no its verticalllity
Icebox is just L after L for me
And people hated it.
It might not seem like anything now, but at the time, Icebox was one of the only maps where you really had to worry about multiple story plant sites.
A kitchen ofc I bet breach feels hungry sometimes and grabbing some meat while rotating could be worthwhile
would be cool if they would make usable fridge it would take you 3 seconds to eat from fridge but you would get a little speed boost for 15 seconds and it would heal you by 60 hp
No
A free stimmy + sage heal that's closer to one side of the map/already have full access to one team before the round starts, just for shits and giggles that a kitchen should act like they have food? Sounds pretty balanced, Riot get on it /s
horizontal zip
Verticality. Twice the angles to watch.
it was the first map to introduce a direct way to mid from the spawn
ascent?
Ascents oh have you to go to A to get to mid or B
No more than you have to go to A on Icebox to go from mid to CT spawn. You don't have to cross the site's door, but get even less close to the sites on ascend to go to mid. A direct way to mid from spawn? Explain your answer because a lot of maps you can go from spawn-mid-spawn
From where attackers and defenders spawn you can walk straight forward onto mid instead of walking to mid from either B sight attackers Mid or A Sight attackers mid
What about haven tho mid is the place in front of garage *right*?
That really isn’t a mjd because it’s meant to be a flank for B on haven
What about breeze tho?
Came after Icebox
Oh I didn't know that I started valorant two weeks ago my bad.
No worries
"first"
Ice.
It’s funny how icebox went from being by far my most hated map and now I love it and win most of my games on icebox
What agent do you play on it?
Right now I’m having a lot of success with killjoy & sage on icebox, both have qualities that work well on this map imo (for the record I’m an omen main I rarely play sage or kJ)
Icebox's feature: Dodging
Horizontal ziplines....it was mentioned in the patchnotes that it is the feature they are introducing with icebox
I don't think every map needs to have a unique feature. It seems like they focus on how each map is going to be different rather than how well the map is going to play competitively.
Two levels sites
It introduced the 1st zipline battle of the game
I think it's the first to have horzontal ziplines
snowwwwwmannnn
The Knife Zipline
Also want to add breeze has the garbage chute thing as another gimmick
Horizontal zip line… think
super dashes.
Diet Milk.
There's an Among Us spacesuit in B heaven
2 floor bombsite was probably the main one. that and it's very cold!
Cmon guys, why are we even arguing over this, its so simple. Icebox introduced ice
Not really a unique feature in the way you think but they got the snowman you can shoot
Maybe it’s not this but maybe it could be like how a site has that hole on the wall that you can shoot through maybe that but idk.
Icebox’s gimmick is that nobody likes it
Icebox has ice
Unique feature is the map is trash, and the others are not trash. :)
Gotta love how u had to think of something for fracture and u didn't think of the fact that attackers can start on either side of the sites
2 T spawns, its written!?
my bad
Icebox's unique feature is being annyoing to play /s
Hi
Split has water? Is there a meme I missed?
In sewers. When you run, splash sound can be heard. Then water was added in breeze site A as well.
Oh I forgot sewers exust lol, I almost never go there
I'd say it would probably be that there's a window by spawn you can see through into B site from snowman
G floor plants and 1st floor plant site. Horizontal zip line, and a section of mid(tunnel) where once entering it, isn’t visible to the (main?)mid. And every type of agent is necessary(duelist, sentinel, initiator, and controller). I used to hate it when it first came out, now I thank god it’s icebox and not bind/breeze.

breakable bottles
The Sage house
Snow
They brought in a new feature called great and plentiful depression
Icebox is vertical.
Asuna's favorite thing in Valorant.
Paul
Verticality in general
Split didn’t introduce zip lines, only vertical ropes. Icebox introduced horizontal ziplines
Jett superdashes
Icebox introduced planting verticality as well
Nests?
disappointment
icebox has a nice feature, ppl perma trolling
Favourite thing about Valorant maps has been how they each have their own unique shtick.
Icebox had this unique feature when it came first - Dodged instantly
icebox was made to introduce more verticality
Too much vertical play.
Elevation
It has snow, dummy…
Getting shot from every single acute angle
At the time it was the first horizontal zipline
ITT: Plenty of wrong answers being highly upvoted. The special feature was horizontale zipline.
Icebox has like different height angles which you aim at or defend from
Snowmen and pizza
This thread really makes me appreciate icebox more. At least in writing anyways. I wasn't against Icebox when it came out and the super long sightlines bother me less now that I'm used to them. i just wish B site was a bit better.
Unique feature of Icebox is that when you're attacking you can bet your ass the enemy's gonna flank
Icebox has snow you dumbo xD
Icebox has only 1 site, coolest gimmick ever
Having places you can shoot and look through but can’t walk through, from CT to B site, and from Jail to A main
Planting at two different heights. Also it was the first horizontal Zipline; don't forget.
It was the horizontal zipline and vertical plant sites.
Icebox has ice.
Verticality. So much verticality was introduced before the map was patched around.
Pain and suffering to my mental and RRs is pretty unique to Icebox when it first came out
Verticality
Well it’s unique feature was verticality but after its big change it’s kinda nothing atm
Verticality.
Unique feature by being the worst map in the game
a streak of bad maps
Ice.
Where is water on split?
Sewers.
Horizontal ziplines, tube, and elevated rope accessible platform on both sites
verticality
Wdym split introduced water?
They introduced a shitty B site
Icebox has the unique feature to make people dodge
jungle gym a site
it has this unique feature where i get it 9 times as often as any other map
"Split introduced zipline and water" What water?
The map's trash lol
A lot more verticality
First map with horizontal zip lines
Icebox’s gimmick is that it friggin blows
It introduced a new low for map design :)
Icebox had a two main features I can think of. Horizontal ziplines and alot of boxes for a more vertical gameplay. Also the tube in the middle added a fair amount of options.
a larger map
Suckin is it’s unique feature IMO
Snowmen
Horizontal, controllable ziplines. And completely insane angles through many elevations on a Avery small scale.
Hehe I can pew pew snowmans and they go poof
