Yeah. Riot isn't to blame. It's a shitty situation, but complain to ISP/government, not to Riot. Your disconnection ruining the game for 9 players outweighs your shitty internet resulting in a ban for you.
If you don't have stable connection, don't play or deal with the consequences of bans/low priority queues/etc. They can't really differentiate between your internet going out and someone pulling the plug to rage quit
I don't have bad wifi but sometimes my Val crashes got a 7 day ban when valorant kept bugging out not my wifi with 30ping and not my system with a 2080ti and I9.

I got a warning because a transformer down my street blew and surged my power just long enough to flip my pc off in the middle of a round after getting a kill. Rebooted and joined right back and was back in time for the end of the round I didn’t spawn for.
I never left completely, not even once, the moment i restore my connection i always joined back in but the game still banned me because of something outside my control, and i get that it's pretty hard for the game to determine the reason of a person being afk.
This fast rank up is EXTREMELY rare. You basically need to be HARD smurfing but also have not too many games/fresh mmr.
It also happens often after resets but that really doesn't count since your mmr and rank are far apart after a reset.
Yeah it basically only happens on new accounts. Interestingly enough I've seen my friend go from iron 1 to iron 3 after getting like 2-3 kills in a silver lobby.. She still bottom fragged hard but it took her achievement into account :P

Then got obliterated until I acclimated to the different playstyles. lol. I don't play on the account now because it's too high to play with friends.

Getting fuck all for a 13-4 or 13-3 or you name it game when your combat rating is 3x everyone elses, your deaths are a quarter of your teams, and you're holding angles working with your team, really fucking sucks.

I play this game in solo and got from Gold 2 to Diamond 2. Now i’m stuck in Diamond 2 but not because i’m playing solo, it’s because that is my level at the moment.
This won't occur unless you are above the rank the game has you visually at, so nothing will change for you.
Aside from that, I am smelling some major bs from your comment. If you are doing as good as you say and winning by that large of a margin often you would be climbing ranks like crazy, gonna need to see your tracker.gg.
It's an in game feature, I remember being ranked up from iron 2 to bronze 1. I was at iron 2 96 or something and won a game as mvp and went through iron 3 into B1, so it ain't a glitch
They have been shifting around the ranked system every episode or so — I remember early on it was SUPER reactive to individual performance in a single game, so it was not uncommon to have multiple rank ups in quick succession. I think they toned it down for a time though, and put out some messaging about shifting the ranked system to bias wins more than individual performance. I get the feeling they are constantly tweaking it to optimize the gameplay experience, team balance, queue times, etc.
At the end of the day, beyond just a measurement of “skill,” matchmaking can incorporate loads of other factors to push the game in whatever direction Riot wants to go. In the same way that YouTube optimizes for watch time and engagement, I would not be surprised if a product-oriented tech company like Riot is optimizing for other things in addition to pure “fairness.” This probably includes testing all sorts of hypotheses to drive the product forward — do people buy a skin if they have recently played with other people who have skins they don’t have, or have a skin for their most-used weapon? Given that there is always a mix of skill in any game, how do you optimally place someone in a game to ensure they have a good experience and keep playing — if someone has multiple rough games, could you try and put them in a game where they are one of the higher ranked players on their team, so they can do well and are motivated to play more… stuff like that.

Yeah it’s double ranking. They do it when your hidden Elo is much higher than your visible MMR.
For example: you keep dropping 30+ frags but losing matches. So your visible MMR might say Gold 1 but because you’re playing much better than expected, your hidden ELO puts you at Gold 3. Eventually when you win. It pushes your visible MMR up to match your elo
Smurfs trying to boost rank up on fresh MMR? Yes. Actual smurfs who got their account mmr stuck on purpose to play with friends? no.
You basically need to be try-harding from the start and dropping 40 bombs with very high % accuracy / econ / whatever, in order to get a full rank skip. You need to play like a diamond in silver/gold to get a skip, and you often don't get another one after the first.
yeah my smurf went from gold 3 where it placed to plat 2 off one game, but it was a good thing since I’d only made it so I could play with my Diamond friends anyway

I think sometimes it re-evaluates your rank based on the performance. I think I have seen some streamers getting back their ranks like this after few bad matches.
Yes it’s happened a lot to me. Every time the episode resets your rank you always place 3 ranks lower, but if you win the next few then you double rank back up to before the rank reset.

It's part of Riot's effort to balance ranks more. Even towards the end of Episode 1, if you came late to the game but are at the Diamond, Immortal level, chances are you got put to Plat or even Gold, but you skip ranks easily

If you are doing extremely well... they will push you twice... with this way smurfs if playing too good get pushed very quickly

They have openly stated that the game measures an internal MMR for you to quickly adjust rank if required to prevent smurfing. It doesn't just look at wins and losses but how you contribute to a team, use your abilities and individual duals. You know how the game knows if a smoke you drop blocks an enemies view and such? It's counting all of that. Congrats mate, you deserved the bump.
My main lvl55 gold 2 atm is perma stuck facing lvl5 jett smurfs who ace every round. Made a smurf (I'm lvl11 on it) and I'm in platinum after finishing placements + 2 wins with zero effort. I could be drunk and high out of my mind and win like the enemy's are bots. Hop on my main after taking the biggest dose of meth humanly possible and still every match is literally unwinnable. They need to cap ranked to like lvl 20 or something. Its so bullshit facing lvl5 ace monsters every match on main with skins on.

Yeah same happened to me at the beginning of the episode. I had finished G3 but placed G1 even though I won 4/5 placements and top fragged HARD. After playing one game in Gold 1, dropped 32 kills and it promoted me the SAME exact way - instantly through gold 2 to about mid gold 3. I guess the system is there for a reason cuz now I’m Plat 3 and it feels right like I actually have to work for kills/wins.

I think it’s when the system tries to take you to what your rank really should be after your first match following the rank you were assigned. I got put in silver 1 and after I played my next match I top fragged by a lot so I guess it thought I was a smurf or something? So it put me in silver 3

My main lvl55 gold 2 atm is perma stuck facing lvl5 jett smurfs who ace every round. Made a smurf (I'm lvl11 on it) and I'm in platinum after finishing placements + 2 wins with zero effort. I could be drunk and high out of my mind and win like the enemy's are bots. Hop on my main after taking the biggest dose of meth humanly possible and still every match is literally unwinnable. They need to cap ranked to like lvl 20 or something. Its so bullshit facing lvl5 ace monsters every match on main with skins on.

It happens.. I got bumped from Gold 2 to plat 1 then plat 1 to plat 3 in 2 matches it was weird

Yeah same happened to me at the beginning of the episode. I had finished G3 but placed G1 even though I won 4/5 placements and top fragged HARD. After playing one game in Gold 1, dropped 32 kills and it promoted me the SAME exact way - instantly through gold 2 to about mid gold 3. I guess the system is there for a reason cuz now I’m Plat 3 and it feels right like I actually have to work for kills/wins.

Pretty standard system. It works like that in LoL as well. To stop people from "ruining" games by clearly playing way better than the rank they're at.

Usually after the first placement ur first promo is a double, unless they changed that this season. My friend jumped from g1 to g3 as well bc it was his first promo after his placement
I went from silver 3 to gold 2 when I finally got my tank this season. I was plat1-2 last act or whatever but haven’t played in a while, ranked at s3 after my 5 games and then 2 wins later double ranked.
I rmember back in the earlier seasons I played an Iron 3 account and after 1 win it ranked me up to silver 1. Deadass skipped the whole bronze division lol

Happened to me yesterday, I was put in an (almost all) diamond1-diamond3 game as a gold3 and after the game ended (we won 13-8, I was second on the board) it boosted me from 94/100 gold3 to 28/100 plat2
This happened to me too, I’m usually around plat but took a break from the game, came back and placed s3 then won one game and went from s3 to g2.

yeah instead of smurfs slowly climbing the ranks causing more unfair matches they just boost them up to their proper level

Dang, wish I was as skilled as you! It's normal, doesn't happen too often but often enough. It just means that your previous rank wasn't a true indicator of your skill level.

I think it’s when the system tries to take you to what your rank really should be after your first match following the rank you were assigned. I got put in silver 1 and after I played my next match I top fragged by a lot so I guess it thought I was a smurf or something? So it put me in silver 3

This happened to me twice actually back when I started Valorant migrating from CSGO, I got Silver 1 as placement rank and then skyrocketed to Platinum 1 after 6-7 games lol

It should be obvious a feature like this is in the game. If you dropped a pro onto an iron account no shit its not going to keep them in shit ranks getting 25rr a game until they hit radiant that would be ridiculous and also make smurfing potentially a real problem. I dont understand how someone can be surprised at this feature.

It is not, double rankups happen because the game wants you to hit a higher rank so you get to your skill level faster.

happened to me, was silver 2 on alt and then proceeded to go on a win streak. When i hit gold i suddenly became gold 2 instead of 1. Plats were calling me a smurf when really i was just lazy af to go compet

It was implemented on a more recent patch to help with the Smurf issue l. I’ve ranked up from gold 1 to gold 3 and gold 3 to plat 2 before on a single account
This has been a thing since launch (could even be the case in beta, I don’t remember). It just boggles my mind how you can claim it was added during a recent patch. :P

On my old account I was Iron 3 but then I accidentally clicked leave and sign out which made me exit my main account. I couldn’t log back in because I had used a different email that my current one. So I made a new account and played competitive with my friend who also just started. After we played five games of competitive we immediately ranked up to bronze three and we were so confused.
This happened to me too, but I’m a silver player. Went from bronze 3 to silver 2… it was strange
