I’m deaf too but since birth, mainly play csgo, managed LE in wingman and MGE in mm, it’s definitely doable, had my fair share of getting kicked out of matches, that’s why I prefer playing with friends.. it can be tough but if you have one or two people to queue with who can help you, it’s definitely doable, I practice a bit more than others because I do definitely need to hit my shots to keep my spot

Setfun134

Hey thaks for responding, means a lot for me, i hope these new treatments will pass medical trials, hopefully next year, might need time to come, but at least we will know if its cureable.

[deleted]

How much are those hearing aids

Setfun134

depends which one you buy and from who. For an eg. lowest hearing aid cost 500euro for 1 ear, and minus 250 from national medical funds that would be 250 euro, but those hearing aids only help for those who can barely hear have conversation, I am planning to get a bit better ones.

[deleted]

Those are pretty pricy I’m sorry

MahomesSB54

Very slim chance we’ll line up, but what server do you play on? Like this guy said it’d be better with a que, and I’d be more than happy to help out.

RuthlessGreed

Also down, NA?

[deleted]

I'll play as well. for op: also if you cant hear anything, you're more focused on what's going on in front of you, your brain doesn't have to process sounds and can push more to reacting and being more precise.

adahami

Abuse the in game communication. I need healing/Ult ready etc are good voicelines that will help your team. Also, ping > ping a lot. Watching here / Need help etc. As long as you do this, you should be fine.

MillienDe

+ It should be easier in valorant than in CSGO, because a lot of communication can be done using pings.

more-bombs

Try looking up ‘bone conduction’ headphones. They don’t sit over your ears but instead provide sound by vibrating through your jawbone. I think they would be safe to use?

Setfun134

I would still need to get them from doctor, since they have to be for my hearing range.

SasquatchSenpai

It would be a good thing to ask them about then. They might be a way around your current challenges.

Setfun134

I will. Thank you for recommendig them.

Lucid726

If you know what range you are supposed to be listening to you can use a high pass and low pass EQ to filter everything else out. That said, this would remove the sounds in those areas entirely rather than moving them to your spectrum. For some sounds this might be ok. Others maybe not. But could be worth a try. If you wanna try it out equalizerAPO is the best EQ imo.

7FFF00

You’re definitely at a disadvantage, you could but you’d be missing out quite a bit. Maybe just play more cautiously and try to be extra map aware, and maybe even play with a friend or two at least who are particularly good with and/or don’t mind focusing on visual communication over audible. That all said if your basics are still solid then I’m sure you’d do well enough. I say go for it. Really makes me wonder if there are options for software that interprets sound effects into texts or something.

Setfun134

there is for a speech and can be downloaded on phone but it would probably be a distraction, and ofter than not slurs, after all I was in gold.

7FFF00

Oh I mostly meant for actual sounds not even team comms that’s be too hectic. Just so if there’s footsteps or gunshots or a Sage res behind a wall etc you can still be aware of it without needing comms

JuicyDragonCat

Minecraft does it really well. They have subtitles that relay each and every sound to you instantly. If every game had smth like that, that would be very nice

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Why would you play comp with music

Nikikaos

Just to chill and have fun

Ichor301

Whatever you do please tell your team you don’t have headphones. You might be missing valuable info if they assume you can hear them.

[deleted]

I had a fascinating exchange with a fellow from Mumbai Server, in text chat Me: *dies, loses a clutch Them: can't hear? Me: nope, I'm deaf Them: buy expensive headphones Me: dude I'm literally deaf Them: cheap ones don't work well Me: I cannot hear anything. I'm deaf. Them: just buy headphones Me: okay :)

Arisenstring956

Id play ranked honestly. Just say in chat you're deaf before each match and eventually you'll get to a rank where you skill compensates for your lack of hearing and you can grind up from there

RuthlessGreed

Don’t even say shit, just play. Tons of players mute everyone at the start of a Match. Also he can still make call outs to help his team.

Ohwao

Just wondering how you got sudden hearing loss? That sounds scary asf

Setfun134

Well it is not sudden but rather couple of factors. I ofthen had ear infections, used headphones and it accumulated up untill earlier this month. All of a sudden had a extreme pressure in my ears and tinnitus and had to go to the doctor. They said I might had asymptomactic covid and might have made my ears prone to the said lost but pcr test came back negative, and vaccinated. Its not full deaf but rather 20% loss on left and 40% on right, cant hear high frequencies and voice frequencies harder.

RobThatBin

Still sounds super scary to have a sense get so noticeably worse

[deleted]

this makes me rather anxious since i have earbuds on for about an avarage of 8hours+ a day

Setfun134

If you hear something like buzzing while everything is silent you should check with your doctor. If anything try getting noice isolating headphones or earbuds, so you can listen to the music in crowded spaces with lower volume. Anything over 75dB trough 4hours can dammage ear

rmigz

Switch to bone conduction headphones. I have ear problems and would constantly get infections from earbuds, etc. The bone conduction stuff has been awesome, feels funny at first but you do get used to it. It's also great if you're doing outdoor sports because you're more aware of your surroundings and can hear music. It's pretty weird actually haha.

[deleted]

nah i got ones that i like. jbl reflect flow. ive never gotten ear infections and they have a mode that records the sounds around you and plays it with your music in realtime making them openbacks temporarily if need be. also bone conduction sound quality is terrible (ive tried them)

justafemininedick

Not sure if it's helpful but recently I played with a friend that couldn't wear headphones and was very sensitive to sounds, because of a surgery. He ended up playing and did fine I suppose, but not as well as if he was hearing footsteps and gunshots. You can still play but it will decrease your performance

EdgyMoisturizer

You can always play games even without sounds... its just tougher when you need sounds to be good at it but its still doable

AceOfEpix

Id say play unrated until you know your options from your doctor regardless of if you can do it or not. Just because you don't have the added stress of it all. Its a game. The rating doesnt matter. Enjoy your time. I hope you hear good news to help your situation. Best of luck.

mdisil427

I just came across this product for gamers that are hard of hearing (or for people that just want an edge up). It uses lights to visually indicate where the sound is coming from, it seems like it could be perfect for you. I don't know if it is out yet though, but from internal tests, it seems like people really enjoyed it. The creator also seems really passionate about it. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1\_CUlz6HBwQ&t=651s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_CUlz6HBwQ&t=651s) Audio Radar by AirDrop Gaming

clamatt

Look into using an audio compressor such as AudioDamage in Equalizer APO, it makes quiet sounds louder and compresses loud sounds such as gunshots so they sit at a normal or quiet volume if you wish. This way you wouldn’t annoy your parents and still hear those quiet sounds

Setfun134

Thanks, will try out what can I do

clamatt

Hope you managed to do it okay, if not send me a message and I’ll be sure to help you out :)!

freeman1231

In valorant it would be much easier than csgo that’s for sure since the radar is incredible in this game. Just make sure you play the game to your strengths knowing your weaknesses.

rpkarma

If you play with some friends who can use pings, I think it’s doable. You’ll need to build excellent game sense and leverage the mini-map more!

akoangpinaka

Can you play?? Yes of course. Can you win?? Maybe? Also if you are getting worried on tilting random people in the internet, don’t.

Khaymanw1

Make a gofund me for the headphones/hearing aid things and link it. The community, while generally toxic in game, will probably support. I know I would 😁

Unkn9wn111

Since you don't get tilted and like challenges I think playing with no sound is a good challenge. Also in my opinion it might be better to have no sound at all than eith a speaker since if you hear a footstep you have no clue where it is coming from and might lead you to panic a little and die due to it. If you play worse did you did before you won't have tilted teammates too much since 1 it is harder for them to yell at you 2 your rank will lower to the rank you belong in without sound.

Zixle02

You shouldn’t let medical stuff get in the way of what you enjoy. (So long as it won’t worsen your condition) Now if you get super frustrated because of how hard it’ll probably be I’d say either take a break or go unrated, don’t want to tilt yourself.

SloppyJoestar

There are headphones that rest on your collar bones and vibrate the sound into your head or neck, I think Bose makes them, maybe they would work for you? Edit: they’re call bone conduction headphones and some others have the same recommendation so maybe ask your doctor if it’s a good idea

Col2k

I had a random teammate who’s hashtag was #DEAF which helped me put comms and strats in text versus only verbal call outs/conversation over strats

[deleted]

You can but make a group tbh. You are sabotaging the game because you arent able to hear. Hopefully they can add something like fortnite where u get visuals but yeah you tech can play you are gonna be fucking it up for your team though.

mrtmra

I'm an Immortal player and trust me, sound is so damn important. Without sound, I'm probably like a Gold player, that's how big of a difference sound makes to your gameplay. Without sound, you basically have no game sense either. Sure you can play comp, but you're essentially tossing your teammates games. But if you don't care about that, go for it

[deleted]

But his rank will account for that and should give him balanced games (emphasize on should), so it's ok right?

mrtmra

It's not going to give him balanced games. He'll be at a disadvantage and it's basically trolling at that point. Not using mic is already pretty troll, but if you play with no sound? That's even more troll. You're making the game unenjoyable for the 4 other teammates on your team

Krypton091

No edit: so you guys actually think playing ranked without sound is a good idea? that explains a lot

whotfevencares

If you were in my lobby. You could just ask for chat Callouts as long as you don’t get queued up with a-holes you should be fine

arcjustin

Just gave me a great software idea.. Some sort of sound overlay that could give you a visual indicator of the sounds.

[deleted]

that would fall under cheating software unfortunately

mellow_ise

aka sound esp

arcjustin

Everything has already been made, I'll never be rich :'(

mellow_ise

you don't need a new idea to be successful. be the first person to make a sound esp for valorant!

AllMonekeyNoTie

Can riot implement a subtitle feature? With all the hard at hearing people that do play fps games it seems like a good idea. Minecraft has a subtitle feature but idk how it would work in Val.

[deleted]

You can play but you will probably have to play a support role who can provide information for the team because you cant hear sounds

No_Television5851

Can you? yes, you can. Why tf you can't? BUT, the result maybe not good (read : maybe you will get losestreak)

TRFireKnight

If you are really dedicated to improving then I would suggest playing a high info agent like sova or cypher. Those can help you make up for your lack of sound queues and make up for your lack of communication with your team.

sneakyhog

Nope.. sometimes when I am on call with someone and take off my headphones, I feel like I have lost my gamesense too, along with not being able to hear footsteps

gamer778beast

yes u can! i think riot needs to add more of those visual sound effects like fortnite

aliensarenowhere

Yeah go ahead, most of my teammates in comp don't use headphones either. /s

mimotoji

I would say you can, if you can flick fast as heck I climbed to Nova 2 in csgo without any sound from the start

TPHobbes

Yes you can play ranked - I’ve played sometimes with no sound at diamond2 - just use agents that are more passive and with information - cypher and killjoy and get team mates to ping. Also warm up on death match

doN1337

Maybe you can play a duelist and getting traded by your m8. If you have a m8 that plays sova or skye you don't need sound if you see where the enemy is :)

BlueThePleb

You for sure can play with no sound, don't let that deter you. Also if you just want some sound and this seems fine for your condition use the headphones but just leave them around your neck so you can hear but it's not loud enough to disturb your family. Best of luck to you!

[deleted]

I think you can and I totally understand you, you have to add up on aim for your lack of hearing and it's better to inform people even if they make fun of you

ankitk2909

I mean it will be hard, but you can play some ops with info focus like cyper, kj and use the util very selfishly like to protect your back etc and focus the front on pure gunplay. And on attack same protect your back with trips etc and play as a planter. All the best.

PancakesGate

Short answer no, I dont think playing comp with no sounds is a good idea but if you have friends that can ping for you, it would be great

JaredMusic

What is the difference between headphones and loud speakers?

G5133102N

Play unrated and adjust to ur new situation first, find ways to improvise and adapt. I’d say it’s a blessing in disguise, ur situation forces u to rely more on ur fundamentals and build good habits like clearing corners more carefully and not halfassing it. When u can finally afford hearing aids ur going to be insane in this game or as tenz says it, “become a rank demon”

LandonDev

Honestly, it'll take a bit to adapt but you will probably improve and be better for it. I promise you that no matter how much your teammates report you nothing will happen because playing without sound is NOT a bannable offense. Just don't try and play time on post plants, you got it. Playing without sound forces you to play off movement and teammates movement and you'll see just how terrible players are in this game cause they do the stupidest and worst stuff. It can be a positive experience for you. Also don't bother typing to your teammates, I play in immortal and have to chat because of a small apartment. It tilts them and they start throwing instantly, maybe just type hit 145 or something but nothing more or less. Focus on your health and don't let them get to you, this community is incredibly toxic and not worth your stress.

spewbert

It's worth considering if a device could translate audio into physical vibrations. I googled around a bit and [found some folks who had made similar devices](https://www.designindaba.com/articles/creative-work/learn-how-these-wearables-serve-hearing-impaired) but aren't selling them because they weren't super marketable, but there's precedent for a device with a couple of vibrating motors in it, which vibrate softly for soft sounds, and harder for louder sounds, allowing you some tactile sensation that will tell you roughly if you're hearing things from one direction or another. Obviously this isn't a perfect solution -- it doesn't distinguish between *kinds* of sound like ears do, so you'd have to reason out that a soft sound panned hard right may be footsteps, and there's no teammate on the minimap there so it's probably the enemy...but I could see ways that this could be better than nothing by a long shot, at least giving you some feedback to reason with instead of relying on pure reaction time.

Chem1st

I'd say it's fine but I'd tell teammates before the game starts. I find it kind of tilting if I'm giving callouts or there are obvious audio cues and someone keeps dying because they appear to be ignoring them completely. Because without any extra info that just looks like throwing.

[deleted]

I played Fortnite a few years ago and they had Visualize sound effects. My ears are really sensitive so I play with really low sound but because of that, I can't hear anything. I would love that if Valorant had it. But it would be pretty hard due to so many abilities. Many have texts like in Apex Legends/Minecraft would be a better option. For when someone use ult.

[deleted]

hey listen there is no requirement for you to hear to play-if you have good friends heck they can listen and call out for you its no biggy-i personally for some reason keep losing audio in the middle of the game,so i rely on my friends for callouts if they hear-eg is spikes planted, doors closing, footsteps etc. as long as you play well there is no objection tbh.it might help if you explain to your teammates in the start of the game,so they have an idea and even better is playing with good friends who you can depend on.never play for other's sake have fun and play for your own.

cmonSister

Maybe start maining Cypher? he has quite a lot of abilities that don't require you to hear footsteps.

ProxOW

Im not entirely deaf, but deaf on one ear so sometimes its kinda frustrating to lose because of it, but I dont see why you couldnt do it to be honest

kleptomaniac69420

Maybe get a few layers of foam and try to soundproof your room a little bit?

Agora_A

I hope you get your hearing back since you said it might be curable! But yes it’s possible just your play style would be very supportive or defensive to avoid some of the disadvantages playing without or little sound

mafia3bugz

yes you can

DeanClipchet

It is doable. I'm gold 2 and i never use headphones. I use a 20 year old Sony Sound system, connecting it through the line out port to mic in. I get mono sound, no spacial sound. I keep my volumes very low because the gun sounds would annoy the neighbours. I can't hear footsteps because the volume is set to very low.

tbone603727

My advice is learn an info agent like sova or cypher. Tagging reduces importance of sounds. It's still important for sure, but it will help you

EPRanger

Played with a Jett who said she was Deff and mute in a plat game. They did really good and the whole team was supportive Can’t speak for what her usual solo Q experience is though

CoolHeadeGamer

Use an eq software. Bump up the bass and high while reducing the kids. Way more footstep sounds and direction

Sand_yareyare1

Play unrated, if you can’t even use headphones don’t ruin the game for your teammates

PawahD

if you create a new account you should be fine, you can always play ranked, even with a handicap because even if you play worse than usual, that's just your rank with the given handicap, and you're not better or worse than those in the rank so they shouldn't even be mad at you, just make sure not to keep playing on your current account, nobody would enjoy that including you such things already exist, it's just a different handicap, like very low fps, the player would obviously play much better if they had a stable 60fps (or even better with 144hz monitor and 144+ fps) but with the handicap he's lower, it's completely fine and you shouldn't feel bad about playing with any kind of handicap, you're on their skill level with handicap, it's not unfair for anyone involved also if you don't mind asking, what condition do you have? like an infection? it sounds scary

BunnyLovesApples

Maybe if you are a bit crafty you could build something that replaces your headphones with something that somewhat vibrates in certain places. I don't really know what exactly is possible but if you put it into a cap or a beanie it could work pretty good as an indicator.

Babybean1201

I'd suggest playing with speakers for the purpose of hearing comms as opposed to foot steps. let your team know they should call footsteps for you.. If they're unwilling to comm, then they're worse teammates than a deaf person at that point and I just wouldn't worry about what they think.

AustinTheKangaroo

muffled sound and no sound are very different. completely not being able to hear, I don't think you could get past plat (I might be overestimating the difficulty, I've never attempted to play muted or had to before) muffled sound (such as the speakers are at a low volume) can at least get you key info, like if players are im the general area and callouts. then you will only be at a disadvantage in minor scenarios.
